There are not enough superlatives to describe this hotel. Some people love the consistency and predictability of big-chain hotels and that's fine, but that's not what I love and it is the exact opposite of the Hotel Lola.
I must have stayed in hundreds of hotels around the world of all levels of opulence, and I have never enjoyed a stay anywhere as much as this one. It's like walking into the home of beloved family and living in serene luxury from the moment you arrive and their amazing staff greet you with a cup of excellent coffee and a delicious home made biscuit (no inedible Hilton Cookies here) until you leave (which you won't ever want to). The bed was incredibly comfortable, the shower was delightfully rustic but powerful and warm, the little touches like the carafe of water, the jars of washing products made it feel so homely. Russell and Allen not only have great taste, they so obviously love their hotel that you can't fail to fall in love.
And the breakfast was just the most surprising, delicious, wonderful thing. Russell is an incredibly good cook and everything from the homemade bread to the freshly squeezed orange juice was absolutely delicious. I deeply, deeply regret not being aware of how delicious it was and skipping it on my first day to get to a meeting.

We felt immediately that we were with friends, rather than hotel proprietors.|We were met at Cape Town airport (by prior arrangement) by Wayne- what a great start to our trip; he was chatty and interesting and a great sense of humour.|Hotel Lola is more like a personal home than a hotel: great decor and furnishing; books everywhere and absolutely everything on the menu is homemade: bread (including delicious gluten free), yoghourt, massive assortment of jams) Breakfast is a FEAST! Quintessentially Cape Town, the hotel is filled with quirky, eccentric decor, enhanced with old South African nostalgia. Our room was moody and romantic, brought on some old town Paris vibes. The bed was like none other and literally hugged you while you slept to the sounds of the bustling city just beyond our quaint balcony.
