I always stay at Garden Court, Kings Beach whenever I travel for work. I am currently staying at Garden Court for the duration of this week. I find the hotel and the staff generally pleasant and helpful. I am diabetic and normally have a problem obtaining a room with a fridge but the hotel eventually normally finds a room for me. I also have an issue with the showers with the tubs. I nearly fell twice this week due to the tub being slippery. That is a huge health and safety issue, especially for huge-size guests like myself. What I really wanted to write about was the incident that happened this morning at the breakfast buffet. I had finished my meal and my colleague and I were exiting the breakfast area, for the first time ever, I grabbed two muffins to snack on later (to be quite honest with you I don't eat alot in the morning because whenever I travel, I bloat and have constipation issues.) Midway through our exit, one of the waitresses jumped in front of me and told me that I was not allowed to take anything as this was a buffet breakfast. I was absolutely stunned and mortified as I witnessed people walking out with muffins and coffee. In fact, my colleague has been doing this for the week. I am not upset with the rules of the hotel. I am upset with the rules of engagement. The waitron should have called me aside and told me I was not allowed to take the muffins rather than do it in front of all the guest currently seated for breakfast. As stated earlier, I am bloated and look even more larger than usual and I felt a certain way. Perhaps I felt that all eyes were on me and look at the fat man 'stealing muffins'. That's what it felt like. I have never been so humiliated in my life. Wow! When I go back to the hotel this evening I am going to ask for a packed breakfast to be sent to my room and I don't have the nerve to show my face there...

Had a conference here for two days and stayed one night.

The conference areas are fine, however, the WiFi is spotty making it difficult to do things in a timely fashion. The bathrooms are also a walk away, so you can't pop out quick for the bathroom. They have two bathrooms for each gender - we were a group of 100. A tea Break was chaos.

Room: I was on the 11th floor. Nice view. However, as I was taking a picture, my phone was against the window and the window pushed opened (almost lost my phone 11 stories down) because the latch on the window is broken.

Aircon did work. Room was clean. 1 shower cap and 1 body wash (caused hives when used and smells like a cleaning chemical) to share between 2 people. TV channels were mainly sport. The toilet wouldn't stop running and filling up without you having to lift the lid and adjusting the floater each time.

You can't take a bath because there is no plug. The shower is inside the bath. The glass door isn't adequate and lots of water got out, messing all over the floor causing a slippery hazard.

The phone wasn't working. So I asked the front desk. Maintenance replaced it. It worked for 20 seconds and then stopped. Room service couldn't be dialed.

Had to visit Mike's Kitchen to order. Waited about 40 minutes for the order. We ordered smalls pizzas. They came in large boxes (wasteful), and were smaller than any small pizza ever. Most likely those frozen pizzas from the shops. R50 and R60 each ? Ridiculous.

Breakfast was better and a buffet.

No fridge in the room either and you have to purchase water at R25 a bottle.

Wouldn't recommend for the prize they...

Did not like this hotel. Compared to the other two in durban at the beach front, Staff from room service and even the reception are just not trained enough to be working in a hotel. There was just one staff member from kitchen who heard us asking the waiters for sausages and they just said NO "I mean its a BnB and there was no sausages for breakfast" but he actually catered to our needs and prepared them for us on request that morning i can not remember his name but thank you we really appreciated it. The room service that we ordered on the first came to the room cold it was sent for reheating n also half of the order was not there we then waited longer for the rest of the meal and although your order is repeated we asked the two waiters the brought the food up how come the rest of the meal was not there and she bluntly just replied by saying i didnt hear you. drinks that was ordered the next was not what was received the waiter did not even know what alcoholic drink it even was although wen we ordered the person repeated the ordered but the room service manager was very pleasant and kind and managed to sort it out in minutes i think her name is Nomsa or Noma so thanks to you as well. Except for a few more staff who actually makes an effort to make you feel as welcome as possible the rest are just rude...

The hotel is situated in a great location, they offer variety of food options in their buffet breakfast and staff were much quicker to clean up tables during breakfast times. The rooms require maintenance, as the mats are worn out, the air conditioners work inconsistently and some room phones are out of order. Several rooms lack bar fridges and unlike other Garden Courts, they do not offer dinner service. Hotel is situated close to Mikes kitchen which has linked doors for convenience. However, this can impose security infringement to the guests, as you could find people from restaurant in the hotel side some getting lost and the lifts of the hotel doesn’t require access card to use. The response to reported issues is extremely slow. For example, when we reported a leaking room, multiple attempts were made to fix the problem without success, and the guests were only relocated after repeated complaints. The pool is very small and suitable only for children. Guest service is notably delayed—calls for assistance often take a long time to be addressed, possibly due to staffing shortages during the festive season. However, compared to other Garden Courts we have visited, both the service and overall hotel experience fall below standard.

I love the staff here, they were really nice. Also, the breakfast is great and I loved there were coffee and juice machine for a quick self service. The hotel has a gym which is open 24/7 and can be accessed by your key card. Also they have a running generator to meet power cuts which is great. For dinner plans, Mike's kitchen is available and they can also do room service which is great. The hotel is located near the beach and other eating joints which are all 3-4 minutes walk. Things to take note of: -There no halal menus for breakfast so better stick to vegetarian options. - Some rooms have ironing facilities and it has to be requested. - Limited drawers on bed post or table to slide in stuff but you can use the cupboard. -Swimming pool is so small.

Enjoyed my stay. I was upgraded to the oceanside view because of my loyalty points with Tsogo Sun and I couldn’t be happier. I was on the 11th floor with great views of the ocean in the morning. It was quite busy the week I was there because of school kids, which meant the wait for the lift was long-and the lifts are slow- but overall a good stay with clean, spacious rooms. It was my first time staying there so I didn’t know you had to get dinner outside or at Mike’s Kitchen- situated inside the hotel, which is a bummer. The service was super slow at the restaurant, we waited for over an hour the day we arrived. Nando’s outside was no different so I’m not sure if it’s a service thing in the city or what.
