"Enjoy the quiet sophistication of one of Port Elizabeth’s finest restaurants. Situated on Port Elizabeth’s beach front, De Kelder is the perfect place for cosy evenings, intimate encounters, corporate dinners and celebrations.

Michele’s passion for the restaurant industry stems from her involvement in her family restaurant, the renowned, long-running and highly successful Ranch House of Steaks, which ran from 1969 until 2002. This vast experience and absolute passion, along with an experienced and versatile kitchen crew has helped to build Michele’s present establishment, De Kelder Restaurant, into a stylish restaurant that delivers excellent food and friendly service par excellence. From your first steps across the rose petal strewn entrance, you are treated to a display of the finest and more unusual wines. As you make your way into the cosy, carpeted interior with yellowood furniture and soft lighting, you realize that you are in for a superior dining experience. The Menu choices are many and varied. Whether you choose succulent de Kelder prawns, the Slow Roasted Duck or the Chateaubriand prepared at your table. The food is presented with style and class and a whole lot of flavour! Succulent steaks, venison, fresh line fish, prawns, crayfish and delectable desserts are amongst the many and varied specialities. You are sure to leave this restaurant with happy taste buds and a warm fuzzy feeling.

The wine list is extensive and chosen to complement our menu. Staff members are friendly and knowledgeable and the service...

5/5 - A romantic dinner out with food that was of the best we have EVER enjoyed. Highly recommended.

Having had many a "upper class" menu experiences, it takes a lot to really impress the misses and me. I wanted a restaurant that we could go and enjoy a romantic evening out for our anniversary, and after last years disaster at another restaurant in Port Elizabeth, I was nervous. Making the reservation was quick and easy and I explained it was our anniversary.

When we arrived we were greeted and lead to a romantic little table setup in a quiet corner. The waitress was amazing, making us feel like we were the only clients, and made recommendations what to order.

Let me state that there was not one thing that disappointed or was not up to scratch.

The little garlic butter bread was soft and fresh. The starters, Turkish Cigars melted in the mouth and zucchini flowers were amazing. The wife had a pasta main, and I had the rump and calamari. Oh my word! The flavor was amazing of the pasta and the pieces of steak in it was soft. My rump was perfectly prepared and the calamari melted in my mouth.

This really was one of the best restaurant meals I've have ever had.

Thank you De Kelder for an amazing evening out, and serving the highest quality meal there is in...

Sadly not what it used to be. We used to go here for Old Years Eve often, and there used to be a lovely, fun vibe (one year they had and handed out glowsticks, for instance), with amazing food. This year (since they moved) it was not a good experience at all. We felt rushed, the service was sub-par, and my food was not up to their old standard. Their vegetables used to be amazing, I ordered a side of veg - but it was the same as spar packet mix, and undercooked with no flavour. The roast potatoes were also undercooked, and due to them wanting to close (it was about 9:00/9:15), they replaced them with chips as it would take to long for new potatoes. Deserts were not on the menu, and none of the items mentioned sounded appealing, or special.

Sadly we will not be returning. The Coachman or Ginger is a lot better, and the prices are pretty much the same. Pity, as this was kind of an old PE icon.

Good: Apparently the fillet was cooked perfectly and was very nice, I didn't have that. My lamb shank was cooked nicely and was...

I just ate 6 animals. Crocodile, warthog, springbok, ostrich, cow, shrimp --- This place was amazing. Our waiter, Ray, was very helpful, gave good suggestions and "knows his stuff". Started with a carpaccio-trio of warthog, crocodile and springbok. All tasted delicious, however I had the feeling they added some/too much smoke-flavour to the warthog and crocodile as it tasted too similar (and it usually doesn't). After that steak Cafe de Paris - truly amazing. Great ambience and wine selection as well.

Good. Its 4. What was awesome was fresh rock oysters. And the real garlic snails as starter. What lacked was the bar. Old Fashion far away what it is. Starter. Prawns in cheese and crunb. Guys. Think about it. But mains amazing good. That would be a 7 star for the service. From the reception lady to our waiter Ben. Ben took feedback and gave recommendation. Rare to find. If the kitchen would hold up the standard of this amazing service over 4 hours I would give all. But still. Highly recommend for PE.
