Review for Ocean Basket – Experience on 31 October
I had made a reservation for 12 people on the 30th of October and spoke to Corne, who confirmed my booking, took all my details, and informed me that he would not be on duty the following evening but would notify the staff on duty for the 31st of October. My reservation was for 7:00 PM.
On the morning of the 31st, I called again to add two more guests, and the lady I spoke to confirmed my updated reservation. Later that afternoon, I called once more to add an additional two guests, bringing the total to 16, and again, the reservation was confirmed.
However, upon arriving at the restaurant, I first spoke to a gentleman named Twezo (hope I’m spelling that correctly), who informed me that there was no reservation under my name. He then called the lady manager on duty, who confirmed the same and explained that it was month-end and they were very busy. She did, however, make a plan to accommodate us indoors, even though we had originally requested seating on the deck, which was already occupied. I appreciate her effort and the team’s willingness to find us a table despite the mix-up.
That said, I felt it important to share this feedback, especially coming from a customer service background. It’s disappointing that after calling three separate times to confirm and update my booking, no reservation was recorded. If reservations are not accepted or guaranteed, it would be helpful for staff to communicate that clearly to customers.

Once we ordered and they brought out the drinks we had then asked for ice as it didn't come for ice and the waiter said she will bring it. We waited about 10min before calling on her again to check where the ice was and it seemed as if she had forgotten about it. She eventually brought it out. After that we didn't hear or see from her again. At about 12h20 our drink had finished and we called another waiter to please check on our food order as we have not seen or heard from our waiter since. He then told us that they were busy plating our food and he left. By 12h35 we called the manager and a female manager came out and we had asked her to please check on our food because we have been waiting for our order and we have not heard or seen our waiter since bring our drinks. She then got quite rude and told us that the kitchen only opens at 11h30 (which we werent told), we then told her okay but people that arrived after us has already gotten their food. She proceeds to tell us that people pre book and order their orders. She went to check on the food and told us that the food was coming off the grill and should be out in 5 minutes. Our food came shortly after that but thats not where it ends. Our order was incorrect and the food was not hot or fresh off the grill. The prawns were ice cold which indicates that it has been standing there for quite some time. My companion enjoyed the Cajun squid starter but his order arrived first, once he had finished eating, my food eventually arrived and the order was wrong. Then I ordered the kingklip - R300, I ordered it with salad but was served rice. I had to order another salad, wait and pay extra. My partner ordered the sole which he said was good other than the fish being dry. We then ordered 6 king prawns - R200+. They were the size of normal prawns, served luke warm with the texture of calamari and it lacked flavor. Another issue is that the restaurant uses the same sauce for each meal. 4 meals with no new flavors. Our final course was Cheesecake and lava pudding. After having each of my orders served incorrectly by my waitress, I pointed to the exact dessert on the menu and told her I would like the raspberry cheesecake , thinking surely she can't get this wrong. To my amazement she served me toffee cheesecake. I sent it back and again sat waiting, while my partner finished his dessert. These staff have zero training or manners.
