Stayed on the Knysna houseboat for one day due to a cancelation. This turned out to be the most Epic part of our stay in Knysna before heading back to reality. The boats are equipped with all you need and all you need to do is bring yourself, some clothes (pack light), and your food stuff. Take yourself onto a whole new adventure to a peaceful and tranquil stay on the water. The water may be slightly noisy/busy during the day but practically the same as a road with cars passing by. This is a feeling like no other and I must say I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Perfect for friends, couples or family trips. I would say for a family with young kids a weekend max stay would be sufficient as there is not much space to move and if your an active person and staying longer than a weekend then you will more than likely go dock for a few hours to do some exploring especially with kids who may become bored of the "isolation". Alternatively I would recommend taking some games with or even some cheap fishing setups which you could source locally or bring from home to have hours of fun playing with the abundance of small fish or to catch the big one. We spent most of our time searching for a trophy fish but also took time to explore and sight see from the water. The lagoon is a breeding space for marine life like most tidal river systems so please do release small/undersize fish to avoid adding extra pressure to the river system as it seems lots of locals catch and keep fish of all sizes to feed themselves/families. Definitely a bucket list stay if you are visiting Knysna and the friendly and passionate Knysna houseboat team will give you that...

Knynsna Houseboat - MORNING STAR!
☺ Awesome experience to captain your own boat, great fishing and facilities on hand that make it easy and convenient. Chilled enviroment, fishing from the deck of the boat is wonderful. The surrounding views are amazing and the most incredible star gazing captivates you into the early hours of the morning. Sun tan off the roof and dip in the cool waters afterward....so rewarding. The service staff, like Steven are wonderful to chat to and make the boating experience incredibly easy and pleasant.
😕 On the downside, Cutlery could have been better quality. Very difficult to fillet fish with broken knives. Had a few small bugs running around on board after dark, fumigate or supply bug spray for those unwanted critters! It would also be nice to have a 12 volt charger supplied or atleast inform the customer to bring along their own before boarding and sailing out. Gas geyser was a little tricky to get a regulated temperature for showering....you have two options or super hot or freezing cold. Please update the charter office address as it took us a while to find the place where we needed...
Read moreWe had an amazing experience on the boat BUT the boats need some upgrading, the main bed is impossible for two people to sleep in and so one of the two people has to find somewhere else to sleep to avoid falling off the bed which is not ideal if you are there on a romantic getaway. The toilet is a porter potti which you need to do both number 1 and 2 in - it’s quite a shock. The videos showed a normal flushing toilet so the porta potti was quite a surprise. There isn’t a whole lot of information on best spots to visit so we had to figure that out for ourselves. We got a bit bored and wondered around until we eventually found the confidence to explore more and realized how many options we actually had but by then it was too late to enjoy. There is no outside cushions so the deck is really hard and you can’t just chill on the roof and enjoy the scenery. The people and service were really friendly though and super helpful. I would definitely do it again but only based on a few more comfortable amendments being made. Overall though, loved the freedom the boat provides and you will literally never see some of those views from any other accommodation so it’s...
