Poor meal out for a party of 4. But the price was rich! Dinner was something of a disappointment. I have been coming to Knysna every year for the last seven years over December /Jan, and also in April/May, and have always dined at Drydock once or twice a visit. Food has always been excellent, Portions generous and service professional. Tonight we has a trainee waiter who randomly placed drinks in front of the four of us, my rice with queen prawns (no discernible size difference from the mass Drydock prawn option, although tastier and more attractive preparation), was not even 1/3 cooked, the deep-fried calamari was soaked in oil, scrawny and rubbery, and the portions were probably half of what we have historically received. Having some experience with calamari, it was clearly cooked at an inconsistent temperature. One of my dining companions asked if it was possible for the wine to be left out of the garlic sauce that accompanied the mussels. The trainee waiter assured her it could. I advised him to enquire with the kitchen first, since we had previously been declined this request on busy nights. He assured me the notes system worked well in the placing of orders and the request would be accommodated. Needless to say, her mussels arrived sans any sauce, and was unattractive and tasteless. That someone in the kitchen did not think to confirm that the hapless Themba had not made a mistake just proves the disinterest and need to keep the orders churning out. Very disappointing, this was our go-to...

We ordered their smallest seafood platter, serves around 2 people. Could very well be finished by one though. The muscles were horrific. They were cold and dry. There was so little sauce that some of them didn't even have any, which is a pitty because their flavour needed some masking. They were putrid, I could only stomach eating one of them. The prawns were just straight up raw. We sent them back to the kitchen to get cooked some more and they came back raw AGAIN. When I say raw, I dont mean slightly undercooked. I mean gooey and translucent. It boggles my mind how they managed to get that right. What makes it worse is that when I told the manager about it, he tried to gaslight me saying they were overcooked. Absolutely ridiculous. They were so obviously raw.
The prices are exorbitant. They charge R180 for a bottle of wine that literally costs R50 in store. Criminal. In total we paid R800 for glorified vinegar and a meal for two, although the prawns were unsafe to eat and the mussels were inedible, so calling it a meal is a stretch. Makes me sick just thinking about it. Quite possibly the worst dining experience I have ever had. Cant recommend you strongly enough to avoid,...
Read moreThe worst experience I have ever had, we were seated near the bar area and waiting for our food to arrive I watched the staff working behind the bar, there was a staff member drying glasses for the drinks that was being poured and with the same cloth wiping his nose, I was so disgusted that I then could not drink the drink we ordered, I called the manager over and explained to him what was happening as there was also a staff member putting a dish tell over his neck and then using it to wipe the glasses, totally unhygienic I was horrified as he said he would speak to them. After he had spoken to them I expected him to come and get out glasses to rectify this issue with fresh glasses but as he turned and walked off after speaking to them, the staff member then again wiped his nose with the dish towel, we promptly got up to leave as this was unspeakably rude and stomach turning, this manager dismally failed at his job, what a disgrace to the Drydock that on past visits didn't disappoint. I will never return and I will make sure to warn everyone of this, just imagine the viruses that can spread this way and just coming out of a...
