Below is a review I did in Jan 2024. Today was supposed to be a highlight of the Jan 2025 trip to return for the same dish - mushroom eggs benedict. What a disappointment. Even though the menu still describes the yuzu hollandaise sauce, it was served with just an ordinary hollandaise sauce. And the cheese was melted onto the waffle hours ago. What a disappointment. The eggs were hardboiled. Also lots of confusion about the breakfast operating hours. Website and menu says till 2pm. When I called the hotel on Thursday they said 11:30am. When I arrived at 10:50am they told me breakfast was already closed, so I had to argue a bit to even get a table. The seating area is about double the capacity, maybe staffing and kitchen hasn't grown commensurately? And no o e checked with me if I was happy with my meal, even at paying the bill. Such a contrast to my previous visit. Still the same beautiful view though.
Jan 2024 review: Wow, I wish there were more stars than 5. Second visit in a week. I had the Nest Benedict, with mushrooms instead of beef (they are happy to make anything vegetarian). Simply the best thing I have ever eaten for breakfast. What a harmony of tastes. Decadent. I don't want to think about the number of kilojoules (plenty), but it was undoubtedly worth it. On a grilled cheese waffle, thank you very much, nothing so ordinary as an english muffin. Last week I had the healthy option, the avo half, which was also delicious (while I didn't know what I was missing out on). My daughter and I also shared a chocolate cruffin, topped with chocolate ganache. The lady at the table next to us had serious food envy as we cut it in half to expose the silky chocolate cream filling. Service is friendly and efficient, the kitchen is quick, beverages out within 3 minutes of ordering, decor is a delight. It all just works

Read moreNest Food Bar is a hidden gem on Thesen Island, Knysna. The restaurant overlooks the beautiful Knysna Estuary, and you simply can’t beat cocktails whilst watching the sunset on their decking. We visited Knysna as part of a two-week trip to South Africa, and we stayed in The Lofts as part of our trip. Nest Food Bar is part of the same building, so it was very easy for us to step out of our room and into Nest Food Bar for food and cocktails. It is very rare for us to eat in hotel restaurants, as we usually like going out and exploring the local area, but the food, service and setting were so good, we ended up eating there every night of our three-night stay.
The staff in the restaurant are nothing short of amazing. They were so friendly and welcoming; it was like we were part of their family. They weren’t only friendly, but very efficient and always happy to help.
The menu features a variety of small plates and dishes, from seafood to steaks, as well as a range of sharing platters. We worked our way through a variety of dishes on the menu during our three visits, and there wasn’t a single one we didn’t like - they were all fabulous. We also had a couple of breakfasts whilst staying at The Lofts, and this was equally as good. The coffee is fantastic, and the Granola Tart was stunning.
We also managed to work our way through a variety of their drinks on the cocktail menu, and they were all fantastic, however The Seabird was sensational - a real taste sensation!
The Nest is the perfect place to enjoy a meal with friends or family, with a stunning view. The food is delicious, the service is excellent, and the setting is simply stunning. I highly recommend Nest Food Bar to anyone looking for a great dining...

_A Tale of Two Experiences at The Nest
I visited The Nest during the busy season, and my experience was a mixed bag. The afternoon started on a sour note, but fortunately, the excellent service and top-class cuisine made up for the rocky beginning.
Ambiance: 4/5
The restaurant was bustling, and the atmosphere was lively. However, the reception area was chaotic, with some guests queue-hopping, which frustrated those who had been waiting patiently.
Service: 5/5
Our waiter was exceptional! Attentive, knowledgeable, and friendly, he made sure our glasses were always full and our needs were met. The service from the kitchen was also impressive, with dishes arriving promptly and at the right temperature.
Food Quality: 5/5
The menu at The Nest is truly top-class. Each dish we ordered was expertly prepared, presented, and devoured! The flavors were bold, the textures were delightful, and the portions were generous.
Value: 5/5
Despite the rocky start, our experience at The Nest was well worth the visit. The excellent service, top-class cuisine, and unique atmosphere make it an out-of-the-ordinary experience that's worth trying.
Overall Rating: 4.5/5
I would highly recommend The Nest to anyone looking for a special dining experience. Just be prepared for a potentially chaotic reception area during...
