Nothando Backpackers — Hotel in George

We absolutely loved our time at Nothando Backpackers. On our two week South Africa trip, it was Plettenberg Bay where we stayed the longest and I'm so glad that we did.

Vinthi was the best host - going out of her way to make sure we had a great stay. Nothando's got everything you need.

The rooms are clean and the beds are incredibly comfortable! We stayed in the private room with private bathroom and were pleasantly surprised by the shower's water pressure.

With load shedding - they have lanterns with USB ports available.

The communal areas are cozy and convenient, especially the amazing kitchen (with gas stoves for load shedding!)

We also really appreciated the private, fenced in parking on property.

The location is great and easily walkable to tons of Plett restaurants and shops. You must stop for an almond croissant at Le Fournil.

Vinthi can help arrange various tours and activities in the area (highly recommend hiking Robberg Peninsula, snorkeling with the seals, and kayaking the Storms River with Untouched adventures). Vinthi can also help arrange taxis around town.

I spent a few days there a while back. Initially it seemed nice enough; one of the staff members who checked me in (his name was Nathi), offered to show me around the town, upon arrival. On the way back we stopped at a local food market to have a look around. Then he started telling me: "Kurt, I'm hungry" since I was eating and he showed me around, I got him something as well. But this became a theme during my stay. He was always asking me for to buy him beers at the hostel. I thought this was very unprofessional. It got to be annoying and ultimately, uncomfortable. He would come up to me and say "You owe me" because he thought he was giving me extra special service ( the service was ordinary). I understand that he would make similar requests from other guests as well. He also went on the brag about all the guests that he would have sex with. Nothando was one of our highlights on the Garden Route trip. Vinthi and her family were truly gracious in making everyone feel at home at their guesthouse. She made sure to give unbiased travel information that made our experience even better.

In terms of location, the guesthouse is perfectly located in a quiet and safe street but it’s still close to amenities such as Spar and cafes and restaurants on the main strip. The place is gated and with own parking inside. The rooms are pristine, beds were very comfortable and super clean. The living room and dining room are also great spots to relax and meet fellow travelers.
