Shah backpackers — Hotel in George

On the website it looked fabulous. But the moment we drove up to the property we knew we were in for a rude surprise. The rooms are located at the back of a fairly middle class looking house run by a bunch of young teenagers. It is next to a backpakers and our impression was that it was probably in the same type of class off accommodation despite its wonderful pictures on the website. Our room was located at the back of the drive way (wont call it the parking area - that’s too ambitious. Upon entering the small room we immediately noticed that the mattress looked as if something was wrong. It was lumpy and had odd angels. Upon testing it by lying on it, it was if you were lying on a road full of potholes. We called Chris the young guy who checked us in. He arranged for the mattress to be replaced with another. The replacement mattress was honestly the hardest mattress I have ever slept on. It was made only of sponge (no springs) and felt like a slab of cement. We were already tired and as we had to drive far the next day and was therefore forced to stay the night as we could not find any other accommodation at such a short notice in the evening. Later a lady popped in. I assume she was the owner and the mother of the teenagers running the place. She offered us a refund for the remainder of our stay, but the way it was done was not pleasant at all. And as a bonus we discovered a pack on opened condoms in the mouldy smelling bathroom. My stay at Emitem was long and I was always scared of the woman Cheryl. Always complaining about everything, coming into our room without letting us know.....taking pictures of our room whilst we are away and the mould growing on the roof was disgusting. She actually told me to clean it because it was my fault for not leaving the door or window open. Our belongings are in there sha had no right. Then she threw me and my pregnant girlfriend out on the street coz she couldn't get her way. I mean we paid to stay there. When we wanted our money back she told us she would work out the amount coz she wanted to make deductions to repaint the room. The woman is a nasty piece of work and I wouldn't recommend anybody stay there. Besides everything is second rate.....you can't do your own washing your not allowed to shower for more than five minutes or she turns the water off. I mean who can live like that. The woman has no heart or compassion for her fellow man. She doesn't even own the place but she wants to restrict people from clean clothes and water. This is not the place to...

After a wonderful ten day road trip to eastern cape this was going to be the last leg before heading home to Cape Town. We booked two nights at this guesthouse. ||What a disaster the owner of this guesthouse was the most unpleasant person I have met in my life. She lives on the property and is always in your face. Uncompromising when requesting that she fix a broken fan. Sending the lady that cleans the room to communicate with us. ||It was when she removed our washing without asking us that was the last straw. We demanded our money back.
