My wife and I went on honeymoon in Plettenberg Bay 10 years ago and stayed the NH Plettenberg Bay, which sadly closed down. Every year we stay somewhere in the Garden Route, if we can afford it. This year, we opted for a cheaper stay so we could do more of the costly local activities. We stayed in the budget room for three nights. Staying at Panoramic B&B didn't feel like we were compromising anything.
We had an all-weather stay. The view is truly panoramic. Late one night there was loadshedding and looking out the window there was a lightning storm in the mountains and it was awesome to watch the lightning light the mountain range. You won't get great sunsets as the sun sets behind the property, but the sunrises are great. Early morning, I spotted about 5 or 6 different species of bird common to the area.
The water pressure is very good. The wifi signal is strong. I clocked the fiber at 34mbps up and 10 mbps down late evening, which I feel was decent considering the place was fully booked. The TV is in a strange place, but it is functional and has all the DSTV premium channels.
The curtains are very thick and do well to block out the light. The bed was very comfortable; despite my bad back, I didn't wake up with any new aches. There is also a ceiling fan above the bed for the warmer nights.
The host, Mike, was very friendly and knowledgeable about the area and gave us a few recommendations of where to eat and places to visit. The unit was cleaned daily while we were out. Price wise, compared to other places we have stayed at in the Garden Route, I would say it is priced right for a couple who plan to eat out or share takeaways.
The only negative point is the steep parking, but it's very common to many places we've stayed at and looked at in areas...
Read moreWe booked both units that are on the ground floor (below the main house). There's a separate entrance which was nice and a little terrace in front of both rooms offering sufficient privacy. The location is great to easily get you in and out of Plettenberg Bay. The host is very friendly and provided good information about local restaurants and sights to visit. However the rooms really need a make-over as furniture is dated and the bathroom is old. This was the most basic room we experienced during our month's vacation in South Africa and the place really needs a refresh. The bathroom amenities were also very basic and not like we experienced in almost all other B&B's during our vacation (there wasn't even a separate shampoo but only shower gel). The drive up the hill to reach your parking spot can also be a challenge, especially when...
Read moreHow weird that no-one has reviewed this place for over 6 months. A small family run B and B except that the second B is no longer offered on site. but the rooms have little kitchenettes so if the off-site optional offer is not taken, a continental breakfast can easily be rustled up yourself, and enjoyed on the room veranda overlooking the bay. What's not to like? Mike and Rene are taking it a little easier and their family are helping a little more but the tremendous warm family welcome is undiminished. The guests in the three rooms had been here for a total of about eight times! Everyone is coming back and it is not hard to see why. Yes, the rooms may need a very small amount of TLC but are fairly priced and the atmosphere and feeling of sharing someone's home comes free of charge. We'll not be looking to stay anywhere...
