Jeju Hotel W Tapdong Branch — Hotel in Jeju

I had a horrible stay at this hotel. Upon checking in, I walked in socks for 2 minutes in the room before grabbing my flipflops from my bag and in that short interval, I was horrified to see that my socks were full of long hair that had not been cleaned from the floor. Yuck. I found more hair in the bathroom, and the metal appliances were absolutely dirty, especially the shower ones, as if they had never been properly cleaned. I carry a sponge and I scratched just a tiny portion of the surface that suddenly became shiny. Why was this not done for what seems like weeks by the cleaning staff? The room also receives very poor natural lighting because the windows have sliding wooden panels instead of curtains, so at best you get light through half the window, and the dull room lighting didn’t make it any better. There was a table in the room that I used to lay my folded clothes and toiletries but I cleaned it before laying my items and my sponge came back dark from dirt. Yuck again. I complained on my first evening to the reception who assured me that better cleaning would be done the next day but I didn’t notice anything better and there was still hair on the floor here and there and a long thick hair (not mine!) on the bathroom sink that was supposed to be have been cleaned earlier by the staff. The reception staff suggested I switch rooms the next day but I was hiking all day long on Hallasan mountain and wouldn’t have had time. And by that time, I had already made my decision to check-out after my hike and go somewhere more decent. Also adding that there was no self-service microwave in the lobby which is usually standard in Korea. And finally, on my first evening the room was cold so I had to ask reception to activate the heating. The second day, I came back in the late afternoon after a day of exploring, and the cleaning staff had let my window open all day. So again it was evening and cold and I had to ask the reception to put the heater on (no idea why this was not automatic and why I had to specifically complain that I was cold?). And to finish, the bathroom mirror was cloudy/burry with marks (see picture) that I couldn’t seem to be able to wipe off/clean. It must be very old or maybe a proper cleaning spray would get them removed. But it contributed to the overall feeling that this place was badly maintained, old and dirty.

TL;DR: Dirty hotel that’s more of a motel standard, and one of the worst place I stayed at amongst dozens of hotels & motels all over Korea. Definitely avoid....

My hubby and I stayed at this hotel for 6 nights(18/10/15 - 24/10/15) as a base for sight seeing jeju island via public transport and day tours.||||Plus points are: ||||1) Short walk to Info Booth to meet the yeha bus for our 2 day tours. Yeha bus driver even drop us off just opposite our hotel after the day's tour.||||2) Paid only W 5600 for taxi from airport to hotel.||||3) Short walk to Dongmun Rotary behind hotel to get buses to/from Bus Terminal (bus 100) for buses to Hallasan's Erimok and Yeongsil trails, to airport (bus 200) then to Jungmun/Seogwipo by Limousine 600 from airport.||||4) Chose to stay in the room 605 (on 6th floor, their highest) with a king bed as the windows faces the sea. Although we booked the more expensive twin bedded room, we decided not to take that as Mr Kang only offered us 2nd floor twin-bedded rooms facing afternoon sun and no views. We were still made to pay the more expensive twin room price although we decided to switch to the King bedded room.||||5) Restaurants nearby- behind hotel - BBQ Black pork street and dongmun traditional market, in front of hotel - seafood sushimi street, by the side of hotel seafood.||||6) Shopping -behind hotel are malls, underground shopping, dongmun market, on the same street there's E-mart, wholesale mart(Martro)||||7) Noise from Fairground in front of hotel can be cut off when the double glass and one wooden windows are closed.Noise stops at 10pm.||||8) Room- good size, clean, big tv sceen, good air cond and bathroom.||||9) Mineral water and can corn drink is provided free of charge.||||A pleasant hotel to stay with food, public tranport, shopping all within easy reach if you...

It was definitely not expensive compared to the Seoul hotels. We booked 2 rooms and the differences were quite apparent. My room's biggest gripe were towels that had cigarette burn marks on them and an aircon that blasted on one of the beds. We had a queen and single bed so the single bed only had 1 pillow. Asking for a second pillow was subject to availability as they don't have any spares! Funnily enough for 2 adults, there was only 1 large bath towel so we had to go to the reception every night to ask for another large one. Small towels were plentiful though.||||The other room had it bad. Their aircon turned off automatically every 2 hours so their first night was sleepless, having to switch it back on every 2 hours or it'll get too stuffy. Thankfully it was resolved after we complained to the reception. Still don't know if it's an aircon setting by previous guests (which we can't rectify because all the instructions were in korean) or faulty aircon. ||||We engaged a driver so the location was not an issue. The street behind the hotel was a black pork street so plenty of choices to try the Jeju famous black pork. There were some nice quaint shopping streets behind the hotel as well.
