Our evening in Jeju started with a decision to forgo our planned cycle ride to the night market. The 10-degree weather was simply too chilly for cycling, so Donkey and I opted for a walk instead. That's when Dombedon caught our eye. Donkey quickly checked the Google reviews, and the high ratings convinced us to give it a try. What a fortunate decision that turned out to be!
We ordered the Special Dombe Set (59,000 won), a feast for two that included a generous 360g of black pork mix (Hangjeong/Gabri), an additional 90g of boiled pork, a perfectly steamed egg, and a flavorful soybean paste. The quality of the ingredients was evident in the tender, well-seasoned pork. The soybean paste added a delicious depth of flavor that complemented the richness of the pork beautifully. We especially loved the black pork – it was a highlight of the meal! Everything was tasty and well-prepared.
Beyond the delicious food, the service at Dombedon was also excellent. The staff were friendly, attentive, and helpful, even assisting us with cooking the meat to perfection. A significant plus point was that the staff members spoke excellent English, a real advantage given that English proficiency isn't always common in this area.
While the portions were incredibly generous (we had a hard time finishing the entire set!), the price was very reasonable. The abundance of food is a testament to the restaurant's value. If you have smaller appetites, consider sharing a set between two people.
Overall, Dombedon offers a delicious and satisfying meal with generous portions, reasonable prices, excellent service, and the added bonus of English-speaking staff. Our serendipitous discovery of Dombedon turned a potentially chilly evening into a warm and memorable culinary experience. If you're looking for a great pork-focused meal in Jeju, Dombedon is highly recommended. Just be prepared for a substantial...
Read moreKitty and I were originally planning to cycle to another restaurant six kilometres away, but the chilly Jeju weather (a brisk 10 degrees Celsius) made us change our minds. We decided to walk from Hotel Whistle Lark Jeju to Black Pork Street instead, and that's where we stumbled upon Dombedon. The inviting ambience, Michelin Guide recognition, and celebrity endorsements piqued our curiosity, and we decided to give it a try.
We were greeted warmly by the staff, who quickly set us up at a table. Dombedon has a warm and inviting atmosphere, with exposed wooden beams and a rustic-chic decor. The restaurant is spacious and well-appointed, featuring multiple tables, built-in grills, and a mix of chairs and benches. The lighting is subdued, creating a cosy and comfortable setting.
We ordered the Dombe set, which featured a variety of flavorful black pork dishes, including steamed pork and black pork mix. The steamed pork was particularly memorable, especially when paired with the salt and soya Sriracha sauce. The black pork was tender, succulent, and cooked perfectly. The servers were attentive and cooked the meat to our liking, making for a truly enjoyable dining experience.
While the side dishes were generally quite nice, the seaweed wasn't quite to our taste. The special black pork sauce was a bit watery for my preference, but Kitty loved it. The presentation was also lovely. They served the Makgeoli in a beautiful, chilled metal bowl, adding a touch of elegance to the meal.
Dombedon lives up to its high Google rating. It's a must-visit for anyone seeking a taste of authentic Jeju black pork. The quality of the food, the friendly service, and the charming atmosphere make for a memorable dining experience. We were also pleasantly surprised to receive a complimentary cold udon after leaving a review for them on their food, service, and ambience.
Overall, Dombedon is a top-notch restaurant. The food is incredible, the service is excellent, and the ambience is perfect for a special meal. If you are looking for a place to enjoy Jeju black pork, this is a must-try. We highly...
Read moreGreatest regret visiting this outlet. Fooled by the 'rating'. Never ever again. How can they insist a non meat eating customer to pay for a set meal for 4 when there are ala carte choices available. They won't accept set meal with meat selections for 3, with ala carte for the 4th, but insisted a set meal of meats for 4!!!!!!!!. How degrading can this restaurant be? Robbery. The 3 of us ended up eating so much meats meant for 4 people and the way the poor disgusting peasant who enforced the rule was practically yelling this utter rubbish unwritten rule at our face. This is criminal in some countries. Because of excessive amount of meats we 3 had to gobble up, we ended up cancelling some side orders in advance, in fact straight after ordering, but on checking the receipt when we returned to hotel, those cancelled items were still added to the charge. Dombedon, this is truly disgusting beyond words and how much lower in level can you get? The answer is there is no more levels lower than that. To all the fellow or would be customers, please read and take onboard this rubbish before even being fooled by their so call ...what rating do they call that? Yes, Dombedon... rhymes well with 'Don't Be Done'. Laughable. There are many other outlets around waiting for business, why not...
