Spent a week at this amazing hotel (30th August to 6th September) and honestly don't even know where to start with the superlatives.||Read quite a few astounding negative comments about things like the entertainment, food etc but my best advice would be to ignore them all. Far too many people use this platform to gripe - too late, rather than at the time - than to dish out praise where praise is well deserved.||If there are any "negatives" about this hotel it's a handful of the guests. Some of them are quite rude, especially in the restaurants and to the staff, don't observe smoking areas and lack any sense of personal hygiene when using the many (spotless, I might add) toilets.||Right, that's the negatives out the way. Here come the positives !||Hotel is just a short hop from Tenerife South Airport in a quiet little down. So if you're looking for a "bustling scene" it's perhaps not for you. What's in the town is roughly a 5-10 minute walk and mostly uphill so you might be a bit sweaty by the time you get there. However, there are lots of good looking restaurants, the fantastic Britannia Bar and of course the rooftop experience at the Hard Rock Hotel.||However....in all honesty you could easily spend a week, or longer, here and have a fantastic holiday by never leaving the hotel grounds.||Our check-in was fast and friendly and any other small dealings we had with reception were also held in a similar manner. As good as the reception staff are though, special mention also has to go to||a) The Maids - they work tirelessly in very hot conditions to keep the rooms at this place immaculate. They are always happy to say hello too.||b) Restaurant and Bar Staff - they often seem to have to put up with some cheek and (very) trivial grumbles from guests, but again were always super friendly, and very good at their jobs. See if people just learned to be nice to others, they'd soon realise that others are nice back ! Even a simple "Hola !" in the morning goes a long way with these very hard workers.||c) The Cleaners - kept the whole hotel clean. Evident they have their work cut out with some guests use of the public toilets etc (lots of men with apparent bad aims !) but, much like the rest of the hotel they were always clean.||d) The Entertainment Team - I've read them being belittled and derided on here and that is grossly unfair. More than enough activities going on through the day and the entertainment at night was never anything less than that - i.e. entertaining ! There was a Freddie Mercury tribute on during our stay. Was he the best I've ever seen? No, however he was very entertaining and had the whole crowd going along with him.||As for the facilities.||a) Our Room (524/1) was excellently situated with views of 3 of the pools as well as a stunning outlook to sea and into the town. Bed was very comfortable, shower good and a spacious balcony to sit on in the early evening sun. There is also a fridge and a - free - safe. What more can you ask for ?||b) Pools - plenty of pools to choose from and each with their own merits. We chose the more chilled vibe of the adult pool but did enjoy our trips to all the others. Bit cold in the mornings but glad of that cooling effect when the sun is blasting down ! Sure some morons go out at 3am and reserve the "best" beds but we never had any real bother finding one for us, and that was with the hotel being very busy during our stay.||c) Food - I'm something of a fussy eater but never found myself going hungry. It can feel that much of the food is "repetitive" but it was never anything less than tasty and fresh. Worth booking the Asian restaurant during your stay as it was really fabulous !||d) Drink - Pour yourself Amstel...what's not to like ! Loads of variety and I don't really believe they were watered down like some people seem to suggest. Then again I didn't make it my personal mission to get legless !! My wife enjoyed the plethora of cocktails and was more than fond of the wine too. Also at the lobby bar you can take as many bottles of water as you need to your room - very handy.||And don't forget food and drink is 24/7 at this hotel. Really, what more can anybody ask for ?||The final thing, and a real highlight, was the "White Party" on the Friday night. What an unreal experience. 4 hours of music, dancing, balloons, congas and a whole lot of fun.||The only thing that spoiled it for us was the fact the week went in so quickly and we were soon back under the cloudy skies of Scotland.||We will definitely be returning here and already looking forward to it !||Thanks to everybody at Riu and the Riu Buenevista from...
Read moreI stayed at the riu Buenavista for 2 weeks and my experience was absolutely spot on. as I check the reviews of the hotel im staying at in great length and saw some pretty horrendous reviews of this hotel I thought I’d clear up a few things and give my opinions. Let’s start with the food the food is what you’d expect for a 4 star hotel buffet style food and even the 3 different restaurants being quite similar. They do try and differ the options night to night with a different selection of pizzas pastas and meat options. With every night having a meat section where a different meat is served daily from pork to chicken to gammon to even different fishes and overall the food is good. In my opinion the dessert selection could have been better and the different restaurants not really worth waking up early to get a spot as much of what’s in them is in the main buffet. Now the drinks. Whilst eating you can get red white and rose wine a couple of different largers and soft drinks like Coke Fanta sprite etc which are all great the larger is cold and fresh and so are the soft drinks. Oh and a few different fruit juices your typical orange, apple juices etc. the bars around the resort offer pretty much anything you ask for many of which are not on the menu but just ask and the great bar staff will make you them. For me one complaint (if you can call it that) would be the drinks just have far too much alcohol in them and I found myself asking them to ease up as a day drinking in an all inclusive is pretty long. But other than that the drinks are great and the staff are friendly and quick. Pools are great with plenty of sunbeds for everyone to enjoy people do wake up early and reserve pool side beds but what can you do. Entertainment happens all day long with different activities for both adults and kids with some of the former activities being yoga arts classes and even football on the football pitch out in the car park. One day for the kids they had a bouncy castle with balloons the whole lot really to keep kids having fun as well as the kids pool with a slide etc as well as riu land every day. nightly entertainment was different every night with some great acts like a Michael Jackson tribute which everyone loved but obviously the highlight being the party’s that happen on Friday which is great fun and the staff really put great effort into them. About a 5 minute walk is a shopping centre with a few different shops what you’d expect really. And for the people saying a car rental is necessary is absolute rubbish with buses running hourly twice in-fact to pretty much anywhere you want to go. We got the bus to Siam park one day which is a 20 minute bus ride and a 10 minute walk to Siam park which will save you upwards of 40 euros in taxi fair there and back. And we got the same bus the 471 to the beach and market in costa adeje. It costs around 2 euro a person. So no you dont need to rent a car. There is also a local strip with different shops restaurants and bars a 5 minutes away. Back to the hotel with the rooms the rooms are great. Comfortable beds nice enough sofa mini fridge and tea and coffee making facilities and a nice shower and twin sinks. Bedding can be changed as little or as much as you want. The cleaners come round early at around 9 so quite early overall absolutely no complaints about the rooms. Just nice and tidy rooms. I mean entertainment goes on until 11 and some people complain about the noise all you’ve gotta do is close the door and your sweet. Also rooms have a nice balcony with a couple of chairs and a table. 24 bar of course! Fancy a vodka lemonade at half 4 in the morning no problem get down there! also a coffee machine is 24 hours as well as the soft drink and beer taps. Overall the riu Buenavista is a great value for money hotel with great facilities great entertainment and hard working friendly staff just a great hotel don’t listen to the picky people who pay beer money and expect champagne this is a great hotel at a great price and infact I think you get a whole lot more then the price you...
Read morePROS: nice interior design of the hotel, clean, renovated and tidy at all times, English speaking staff at the reception, comfy beds and spacious showers, great ocean view even from a third floor, well-kept greenery, amazing wi-fi connection (11/10), spacious premises, nice, clean pools, quiet poolside near around adults area, nice animations (fun Kahoot game, nicely prepared shows that weren’t tacky, separated schedules for adults and kids entertainment), classy live music, especially instrumental like sax and guitar, tasty mojito at the pool bar. fresh fruits, non-lactose, chocolate and soy milk options. strawberry juice, plastic, reusable cups at the pool bars.
CONS: Food! Mediocre, boring, mostly tasteless. After two weeks we were longing for something else. We are aware that hotel restaurants aren’t fancy or anything and we really don’t expect anything of this sort but food in Riu Buenavista was really bad in comparison to other Allin hotels we’ve experienced.
Pancakes were dry (and sometimes undercooked), eggs (sunny side up) were overcooked to the point of having a crusty, hard to chew, bottom, churros were very rich in fat and served without optional melted chocolate. No omelette cooking stand with option to pick your ingredients. Snack bar was mainly prepared for burger lovers, besides vegetable sandwich made from white toast bread that wasn’t even toasted. There were no pastries.
Lunches and dinners were probably okay for meat fans. Pastas were dry (spaghetti pasta with green garlic pesto looked like it was laying around for days), carbonara tasted nothing like carbonara to the point we did not know what kind of sauce it was until we came back to read the labels. Sweets were okay but that’s it. Chocolate in choco fountain tasted like a chocolate-like product. Vegetarians (not even vegans) did’t have much of a choice. We mostly ate pizza, paella and fries + salads. Our suggestions for plant-based people: hummus, obergine paste, sweet potatoes, guacamole, salads with no ham inside, quinoa served more often than once a week, dried tomato paste, tapenada, coconut yoghurts, salsa, onion rings.
Sad thing regarding food is that on the day of the TUI (or Riu? I don’t remember) survey food was really good. They served a choice of sea food (tasty garlic shrimps, saute shrimps in the salad bar, grilled salmon etc), more fancy hams (looked like chorizo).
Waiters and waitresses almost never talked to us in English even when we clearly didn’t respond to them in Spanish.
Utensils looked old and used.
Neutral things: Italian restaurant on the premises was okay but we weren’t sure if it’s a la carte and most of the foods served there were the same as meals available in the main restaurants. The only differences were some desserts, lasagna, ravioli (we were not sure about the stuffing – was it meaty or not?) and sea food options.
Mojito at the pool bar was prepared differently than the mojito at the main bar.
It rained heavily for two days straight. Entertainment was moved to the lobby bar which was cool. I am aware that this area is not known for it’s bad weather but water was gathering in the hallways, dripping from the ceilings in restaurants and from the lamps at the lobby entrance.
This one is totally additional but it would be convenient to have a small shop at the premises, just to buy pads, sun lotions or cards to play on a rainy day. All in all a small shopping center with well-equipped supermarket, pharmacy and other shops was nearby (if you are fine with walking up hill).
Hotel has a underground garage priced 7...
