Honest Review: Hard Rock Hotel Tenerife
I stayed with my partner for a week at what we thought would be a luxury hotel. Unfortunately, this is the first holiday where I’ve actually had to downgrade my board. For context, we booked half board with Rock Royalty in a Rock Royalty Studio Suite with a sea view. Our friends stayed in a Silver Suite on bed and breakfast only.
Rooms
While our sea view from the 12th floor was undeniably beautiful, our rooms were otherwise identical to our friends’ room on the 5th floor—despite us paying considerably more for Rock Royalty. There was no noticeable difference in size or amenities. If you’re thinking of upgrading, just know that aside from the view (unless you book a much larger suite), the rooms are the same.
Storage space was another issue—barely enough for one person, let alone two. For the price we paid, it’s baffling that the hotel doesn’t provide more furniture. The room itself felt dated, with chipped paint, a broken mirror and speaker, and stained pillows.
Housekeeping was inconsistent. Sometimes they didn’t show up at all, despite no “Do Not Disturb” sign. Other times they entered even when the sign was on. The Rock Royalty “turn-down service” happened only once during our stay, even after we raised the issue with reception.
Food
Dinner was where we quickly decided to downgrade from half board. The food quality was poor—undercooked pasta, low-quality meat, and pizza toppings that slid right off. Flies were around the salad bar, which had clearly been sitting out.
The biggest surprise? Half board does not include drinks. No soft drinks, no water, nothing. You have to pay extra for even a basic drink at dinner. Rock Royalty guests do get free alcoholic drinks in the lounge (15th floor) during specific hours, but only there—not during meals. Not even soft drinks were included at dinner, which felt ridiculous.
This, combined with the room disappointments, made us request a refund. It’s important I note- even if you are all inclusive- you still have to pay for majority of the cocktails which does not make any of it worth it!!
Management & Staff
To their credit, the staff and management were excellent. EasyJet refunded our half board, and the hotel gave us a free lunch voucher and two cocktails on the 16th floor. The team clearly tried to help, and we appreciated their kindness. The issues really lie with how the hotel itself is run.
Hotel & Facilities
The lobby is spacious, and the number of pools is nice for the size of the resort. However, none of the pool bars were open during our stay. Being Rock Royalty meant unlimited towels, which was convenient.
The sunbed situation was frustrating. Every morning at 9am, guests would rush to “reserve” sunbeds, leaving towels all day even if they didn’t show up until the afternoon. Staff should enforce stricter rules here.
The gym was small, worn, and without air conditioning. The spa wasn’t impressive either, though Rock Royalty included one 90-minute session for free. Personally, I wouldn’t pay for it otherwise.
Entertainment was underwhelming, consisting mainly of amateur singers covering old rock songs—loudly. With the hotel being fairly isolated, there isn’t much to explore on foot. Luckily, we had a rental car and spent most evenings in Las Americas or Costa Adeje (about a 10–15 minute drive).
Final Thoughts
Overall, our stay was disappointing. For the price and the Hard Rock brand, we expected much more. We’ve stayed at Hard Rock Budapest before and loved it, so this was a letdown.
We paid £1,400 per person (and that wasn’t even for all-inclusive), which felt like terrible value. For half the price, there are much better hotels in Tenerife—H10 opposite looked like it had better facilities, for example.
While the staff were friendly and management tried to help, it wasn’t enough to improve our experience. Sadly, I can only give this hotel 2...
Read moreWe have just gotten back from our honeymoon at the Hard Rock Hotel Tenerife. It’s difficult to know where to begin! This hotel really is out of this world.
The staff are absolutely incredible - Jessica on the bar full of energy always smiling and happy to help so welcoming and friendly. Felix, Cosimo, Hamza and Sebastian on the bar need a shout out too they were also amazing so attentive and friendly when ordering/bringing over drinks and very helpful, they were working tirelessly making sure things ran smoothly! By the pool, the staff were also amazing and deserve recognition, particularly Ariadana and The Dude. Both so friendly and helpful and again just working tirelessly to make sure everyone was happy and catered for. The staff really were what made the place and we could not be more grateful. Thank you to all the ones we have mentioned and everyone else!
The entertainment throughout was fantastic, particularly the evening entertainment and bands. Such an amazing mix of bands. We absolutely loved the Queen Tribute band they were completely phenomenal! We also loved Gotra Band and Soundchaser they both had so much energy and played some of our favourite rock songs. However, all the evenings we enjoyed every act that was on. Amazing!
The food was brilliant - all inclusive buffet loads to choose from for breakfast, lunch and tea. Huge selection of food and deserts and all tasted lovely we cannot fault it. As part of all inclusive you get a select menu at the beach club, sports bar and the Mexican restaurant. We tried all of these places and loved each meal we had, friendly staff, food served quickly again no faults!
All inclusive also had an amazing selection of drinks to choose from and we never felt as though we were stuck drinking the same things. Staff were really helpful explaining what was included also.
We were in a Diamond Suite - the room was breathtaking. They also went the extra mile leaving us a bottle of bubbly and cakes with a note congratulating us on our honeymoon, we loved this touch! Huge bed, such comfy pillows, jacuzzi bath, huge balcony with a gorgeous sea view, amazing Bluetooth speaker that was great for playing music through. Again no complaints, cleaners came every morning and made the bed, fresh towels and topped up water and coke in the fridge which was really appreciated. My husband also rented a guitar for a couple days on our stay, it’s a €1000 deposit which was instantly fully refunded once returned, came with an amp and he loved it. Just another level of catering to guests again!
The pools were all brilliant, we tried all three. The adults only pool fills up quickly in the morning so you couldn’t usually get a sun bed there after 11am. However, Lagoon Pool bar was brilliant and there were always loads of sun beds free and it was our favourite pool. By around 2/3pm there were spaces at the adults only so we’d sometimes move up there. All of the pools were great though and we loved them!
We tried to rooftop bar The 16th a couple of times it was quite windy and cold but with a jacket the views of the sunset are amazing, great and helpful staff, amazing seats with the fire and great DJs up here too, definitely worth a visit.
We also visited the Rock Shop in the hotel which had a great selection - Isabel who served us was so lovely, helpful and nice! Loads of selection of stock and we bought a good few things.
Just an incredible experience - thank you to all of the staff, partially Jessica, Felix, The Dude, Cosimo, Hamza, Ariadana, Sebastian. We could not recommend this hotel any higher they made our honeymoon so special and we are...
Read moreWe booked this hotel and spent more money than we usually would on it as it was our honeymoon. We were really excited for a week of luxury in the sun but we were sadly really disappointed and let down by this hotel.
We'll start with the positives, the beds are comfortable and the air con and black out curtains made for a good night's sleep. The frozen cocktails being included in all inclusive was also a bonus. Unfortunately that's really where the positives end.
On our first day, we had to complain to have our room cleaned. On our second day, the shower broke and flooded into the room. We had to use the rainfall shower which was quite poor because the other one was still not fixed by the time we checked out. We were told everything had to be booked through the app, including the restaurants that were meant to be included as part of the all inclusive package. We went to guest services to complain that we weren't able to book into any of the restaurants and they said the app wasn't working, so they booked us there. Then, without directly contacting us, one of those bookings was seemingly cancelled as a conference had decided last minute to book out the entire lagoon pool area including the restaurant where we had a booking. We only found this out through a notification on the TV at 7pm the day before. When we did get to the restaurants, we then found out that all inclusive only applied to a small selection of what was available. The worst by far was the mexican restaurant, for choice, portion size and food quality.
The food in general was very disappointing. The buffet was in essence the same every single day. It was fine but nothing special and it got really boring after a couple of days of eating the same thing. Because you had to be seated for the buffet, it meant there was always a queue to get into the restaurant and then a further wait to order a drink from the clearly overworked and harassed staff. Most days we had to remind them that we'd like to order a drink. There were also queues at all the bars pretty much throughout the full day due to a lack of staff.
When we booked this hotel for our honeymoon, we booked it for the reviews (which now we think many of them are fake or written by staff) and the fact that we wanted to spend extra for some luxury. What we found when we got here was that anything that could be considered luxury came at an extra cost. Balinese beds, the rooftop bar, beds on the sand, all of these cost extra (and a lot extra). We then found out our families had contacted the hotel in advance to ask them to decorate our room for arrival only to be told they do one honeymoon welcome pack and it would cost them 85 euros.
There was also nothing to do. You'd think being a hard rock hotel there would be more of an effort but you got 2 hours of live music if you're lucky a night and then the same repetitive dance music all day at the pools. There was a mini golf course we found by accident which isn't advertised but otherwise there's nothing really happening. You can't even watch Netflix or anything on the TV and if you want to watch a movie it'll cost you 7 euros per film.
We did complain 3 times to 3 different staff members and in return they gave us late check out on our departure day for free. Based on our experience at other all inclusives, we had assumed that this would be standard where you get either the day of arrival or the day of departure included but imagine our surprise when we were told this would usually cost an additional 150 euros.
All in all, it was nothing but really disappointing. Spend your...
