We spent 4 nights at the Barceló Fuerteventura Royal Level – Adults Only - to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary.

Our room was clean, but maintenance issues detracted from our comfort. The sofa needed a deep cleaning, and the main balcony railing was loose and felt unsafe, which was particularly concerning. The bedroom balcony, on the other hand, had no furniture at all—just an empty space, which seemed like a missed opportunity for enjoying the outdoors. The bathroom was spacious, with a good-sized shower, but the shower door lacked a bottom track. This caused the glass door to swing inwards and felt unstable. It also left a gap at the floor level, resulting in water soaking the bathroom floor every time we used it.

Upon arrival, the bed was made up as two singles instead of the king we had expected. While housekeeping quickly addressed this when we informed reception, the noise from our room location remained a problem. Being on the first floor at the back of the resort, we were exposed to constant road noise and live music from a nightclub across the street, which blared until 1 a.m. nightly. The live entertainment from the pool bar was also audible from our balcony. A poorly fitted door with large gaps only amplified these issues. When we raised our concerns with reception, they said the resort was fully booked and no alternative rooms were available.

We mentioned several times during check-in and our discussions with reception that this was our 25th wedding anniversary—a milestone trip for us. No one even acknowledged it, let alone made any effort to make our stay special. For context, when we celebrated our 15th anniversary at a different hotel, they surprised us with a small gesture of a bottle of Prosecco and chocolate-covered strawberries. We didn’t expect anything extravagant, but even a simple “Happy Anniversary” would have gone a long way.

The resort itself was clean, and the facilities were well-maintained. However, the pool area suffered from the common issue of guests “reserving” loungers with towels as early as 7 a.m., only to leave them empty for hours. A pool lounger assignment system would help resolve this frustrating situation.

The food was a big disappointment. We were shocked by the low quality and poor presentation at both the adults-only buffet and the main resort buffet.

Salad Bar: Mostly prepackaged or tinned items like bagged salad mix, tinned mushrooms, and sweetcorn. Salad dressings were unlabelled, making it unclear what was being offered.

Charcuterie: While visually appealing, nothing was labelled, and not every platter had tongs or forks, leading to guests handling food with their hands.

Hot Food: This was the most disappointing. The selection felt more like a children’s menu, with frozen fried items such as chips, mozzarella sticks, spring rolls, and croquettes. One day at lunch, we saw what appeared to be a pulled pork pizza. However, upon tasting it, we realised it was not pork at all—it was tinned tuna paired with onion!

Additionally, the lack of labelling on hot food items made it difficult to know what was being served, and the labels that were present were unhelpful (e.g., “pork in sauce” or “surprise chicken”). Even worse, there was a persistent lack of serving utensils, which led to significant cross-contamination throughout the buffets.

We also looked into the resort’s à la carte restaurants, where all-inclusive guests received a 20% discount. However, reviews on Google and TripAdvisor suggested these options were equally underwhelming, and we didn’t want to risk further disappointment, especially on our anniversary. In the end, we chose to dine out locally for two of our four dinners, which was a far better experience.

While the resort had potential, the experience was marred by maintenance issues, poor food quality, and a lack of attention to detail. We left feeling let down, and unfortunately, we cannot recommend this resort to others. It is certainly not deserving of its advertised...

I’m 25 and travelled with my boyfriend for a 7 night stay at the Barceló Fuerteventura Royal Level - Adults Only resort. Whilst there was a lot to like about the holiday, I think the many five star reviews of this hotel are over optimistic and led me to have high expectations which weren’t met. If you want a real, genuine review then please read on. I’m not one to give a negative review but I think people need to be aware that just because the photos look very nice, this isn’t a four or five star stay.

I’ll start with the positives. The room was lovely. It was very big and modern. The cleaners did a good job each day. The suites give a feeling of luxury rather than your typical hotel complex. This leads me on to my next point that the grounds are very nice and aesthetically pleasing. Being an adults only resort, it was very peaceful and relaxing.

The next positive is the cocktails and the snack bar. The choice of cocktails was superb and they were very nice. The snack bar where you could order food to your lounger by the pool was brilliant. Options included Caesar salad, burger and chips, salmon and a club sandwich, just to name a few. This food was actually better than what was offered at the buffets.

Now for the negatives. In my opinion, the biggest let down was the staff. On a few occasions, my boyfriend and I were met with either miserable and/or rude staff. We had never experienced this on our holidays before. Staff were snappy in their manner. They were not attentive to our needs, for instance one morning nobody had asked what I’d like to drink for the duration of my breakfast. We were also told one evening whilst visiting the buffet at the family hotel just up the road (which we are allowed to access) that we needed to make a reservation first. The lady said this with a very bad attitude. We had visited this buffet a couple of times and not once did we, nor were we told earlier that we need to, make a reservation.

Communication amongst staff seemed to be poor and we did see several bartenders seeming to be “told off” by their superior at one point…!

With an all inclusive hotel, our expectations of food are never that high. We are realistic about what the food will be like. But the choice of food was poor. There was much more choice in the family buffet, mentioned above, but even then, it’s ultimately just poor cuts of meat, vegetables, cheap carbs and salad. We visited one of the Italian à la carte restaurants where it took thirty minutes to be served a drink…

Finally, there just seems to be a lack of love from the staff in this hotel. The daytime activities by the pool were boring and repetitive, and there was a lack of atmosphere in the adults hotel in the evening, especially if you are a younger couple like us. We went to the entertainment over at the family hotel which was definitely better and staff WERE attentive here. It does seem the family hotel invites a better experience, but we didn’t want to stay at a family hotel as it was indeed very noisy during the day by the pool which is not the atmosphere we would have wanted either.

It’s also worth mentioning that during our previous holidays, we would enjoy making friends with staff i.e the bartenders or the holiday reps, but that just wasn’t the culture here.

I’d like to mention as well that there’s not very much to do on the island but that is my own fault for not doing better research of Fuerteventura.

Surrounding the hotel, the area is ok. It’s right by the beach, some shops and a few restaurants and bars, but there’s not much to do. We did visit the gym a couple of times which wasn’t bad at all and was pretty well equipped.

Overall, it’s such a shame that we didn’t have the best time, especially when my photos of this holiday are gorgeous! But a lot of work needs to be done for this to be a four or...

Couples holiday. Great location 15 mins from airport. 20 euro taxi e/way.|Stayed at Royal Level Family club rather than Adults only section - out of season so only very young children there and cheaper than Adults only. Efficient check in. Complex fully explained by reception staff. We arrived early and room wasn't ready but issued with AI wrist bands and allowed access to all facilities. Reception WhatsApped me when room was ready.|Room great size. Separate bedroom to main suite area. Nice balcony overlooking pool area onto seafront. Full mini bar which was topped up with waters daily.|2 large TVs with a few English channels.|Room cleaned everyday and towels replenished. Free safe. |Generally quiet but there was some extensive gardening/tree felling taking place near our room. Room did feel the force of the wind on windy days. They were installing new firehoses. We did suffer some tiny ants in room which bothered my wife more than me.|Pool area was sufficient for the amount of visitors. Didn't have a problem getting a decent lounger but might be different at peak season. Pool itself needed some TLC ( as did the paintwork around the site generally) some tiles had lifted and they had been repaired - safe but didn't look great.|Pool bar and staff were great. Selection of drinks were excellent.|Barcelo App - make sure you download it in resort and use it!!. Book restaurants and see what entertainment is on and when/where.|Breakfast - El Ancla is 2 min stroll from RL Family club. Consistent quality and good fresh omelettes. Great setting overlooking the marina.|Lunch - ate at buffet at Mafasca in RL area. No issues at all. Food nice and generally hot. La Perlita for club sandwiches and burgers - food good but the service got a bit mixed up on 1 occasion. Terra San in RL Adults section - fresh bar food. I can recommend the chicken fingers.|Evening Meal - El Ancla nice buffet with hot food station - nice fresh entrecote steak or seared tuna/fish. Mexican theme night was better than the Mexican buffet. La Dolce Vita - lovely Italian. We tried the tasting menu that is part of the AI and liked it so much we returned for a further meal and paid for it - 20% discount for AI guests. Palo Santo - Mexican buffet. Try it for a change of scene but visit the other restaurants first. Rodizio - Brazilian buffet. I would recommend this one. Very good meats and nice service.|Daytime entertainment - nothing to speak of at RL Family club - ideal if you just want to relax. Plenty going on at the other sites across the complex. Mini golf popular especially if weather got a bit over cast.|Walking - 30 min walk to Atlantico Shopping centre; 20 min walk to natural rock pool visiting the chipmunks/Barbary squirrels along they way; 45 min walk to Lagos ruins - large white tower.|Evening entertainment - quite good and mostly professional if a little samey. We saw 3 different Soul/Tamla cover bands. Abba tribute was fun and also a Country Legends worth a listen. Havana band also good. Sports bar at the Marina was good.|Drinks - excellent with the RL package. All brands available other than, for example, 10 year single malts. Cruzcampo on draft. Sol in bottles. Gordons and Absolut flowing freely.|Staff - without exception all staff helpful and added to the experience.|Boardwalk was fully repaired by when we left but was in a really poor state for start of the holiday.|Would return. Complex just needs a bit of TLC. Staff were a credit. RL AI was well worth it and opened up the whole complex - shows in the theatre @ Mar; fresh lunch at Terra Sana; Rodizio free access; Sports bar...

We had a delightful few days at the Barcelo Fuerteventura Royal Level - Adults Only. What we particularly enjoyed: - The suite: it was decorated with taste and very clean, the AC worked well, you also got bathrobes, slippers and a complimentary minibar on arrival (any restocking was chargeable). - The food at Terra Sana: all the food that we ate there was delicious, there was plenty to choose from at both breakfast and dinner (we were HB). The breakfast we had there was probably the best breakfast we've had at a hotel. We particularly enjoyed getting drinks served at our table (including barista drinks) and several egg dishes. The buffet was also amazing. - the staff were very helpful and genuinely appeared happy to be there. - The small details and gestures that made this hotel stand out. For example, every evening small chocolates were delivered to our suite, and towel changes were free throughout the stay. We loved the tastefully decorated dedicated reception for RL guests (situated in the Barcelo Castillo Hotel) with complimentary drinks and seating. - The fact that RL guests could use almost all restaurants at the adjacent hotels, although their quality was understandably not the same as the Terra Sana restaurant. - The atmosphere around the grounds was peaceful, and it was easy to forget you were situated in the centre of a busy tourist resort. What could be improved: - All well-placed sunbeds were reserved by around 8am, but then often unoccupied until midday. We only once saw the lifeguard place stickers with the time written on onto unoccupied sunbeds. We've seen better practices at other Barcelo hotels, including taping off the pool area completely until 9am. At this hotel, it would be easier to ban reserving sunbeds (i.e. all belongings would be removed) until 9am. - Royal Level guests could use other facilities and restaurants across all three hotels (the other two being Fuerteventura Mar and Fuerteventura Castillo), however the extent to which this was possible was not made clear and took an unnecessary amount of detective work! For example, RL guests can enjoy the Thalasso Spa Thermal Circuit for free (normally €32 per couple) and Mini Golf for free (normally around €5 per person). Other than being told this quickly at Check In, these benefits weren't publicised and we found ourselves having to double check by using the app to ask questions before we turned up. A printed A4 sheet could have summarised these benefits clearly! - The response time to questions we asked via the Barcelo App Royal Level messaging service was often slow, taking several hours to get a response. The lack of any reception or physical concierge in the RL grounds left us feeling isolated. Some other things to note: - Caleta de Fuste is primarily a resort town with a few bars and restaurants but not much else- we would recommend renting a car and visiting the rest of the island if you are staying for more than a few days or if you want to add some cultural visits to your trip.

Location: Situated in the heart of the island along the east coast, the hotel is conveniently located 10 minutes from the airport, 40 minutes from Corralejo, and one hour from Morro Jable. This central positioning is ideal for exploring both the northern and southern parts of the island. Room: The rooms score a 9.5/10 for cleanliness. The beds and pillows are soft, and the rooms feature modern furnishings and decor. However, a notable downside is the persistent smell of bleach after cleaning. Food: The breakfast options are typical for European hotels, yet the quality stands out with a rating of 10/10. The selection of pastries and fruits is extensive, enhancing the breakfast experience. Dinner is the highlight, offering a varied menu that changes daily, including dishes such as pasta, pizza, tacos, burritos, entrecote steaks, lamb chops, sushi, chili con carne, fried rice, paella, and more. Opting for the half-board option is highly recommended; dinner also earns a 10/10. Facilities: The royal-level reception is located in a separate building, "Barceló Castillo," approximately 250 meters from the main hotel. Parking can be challenging, often necessitating street parking unless you prefer to use the hotel’s designated parking further away. The pools are peaceful and serene, perfect for those seeking tranquility. The beach, a calm, man-made expanse, lies just across from the pools and is ideal for swimming. Late check-out is available for a fee of approximately 25 euros until 2 PM, subject to availability. Service: The hotel staff are exceptionally attentive to guests' needs. I extend my sincerest regards to everyone from reception, cleaning, and room service, with a special mention to the team at Terra Sana Restaurant. They went above and beyond by preparing a special iced coffee for me at breakfast, which was greatly appreciated. Upon reviewing reviews from a month ago, my experience seems to diverge significantly from previous reviews (I stayed here in early May). It appears that the management has taken past reviews to heart and has implemented noticeable improvements. This commitment to enhancing guest experiences is commendable. 👍🏼👏🏼 Overall, my stay at this hotel has been thoroughly enjoyable, and I highly recommend it to any adult visiting Fuerteventura. Worth the long and extensive review as I am unfortunately waiting at the poolside for check out in two hours.
