Sometimes it's funny how something so out in the open can be passed by so often. While initially I was very dismissive of this place, it just doesn't stand out. My wifey persistently pestered me to give it a chance...and she was absolutely correct. Of very few places in Castillo Caleta de Fuste that does tapas properly, this hands down is one of the best and offers a great range of dishes. Such a great range of dishes with some star dishes. I would highly recommend this place if you fancy tapas tonight. So we asked for a change in one of the dishes. And I recommend asking for the same. The fried egg plant, we asked for honey and balsamic, instead of the honey and cheese. Personally I think is a far better combo than menu. But maybe next I'll try it as I am curious, it just sounds a little rich. The star dish was the Fish Fritters with Lime Mayonnaise. While this cause a little debate as my wifey preferred without the lime Mayonnaise, I enjoyed it with or without. I thought it added an extra zing, but also agreed that the flavours were delicious on their own. Sometimes deep fried tempura style/batter cod can be bland, this is not the case here, very well seasoned. The other notable dishes are the Iberian pork dumplings Goyza style and the Pardon Green Peppers. And even the least favourite on our table where of a high standard and so flavoursome. The sausages tasted like frankfurters, nice. And the the Meat balls was also nice, a little over cooked. Sadly both just lacked a little something, but far from bad choice. The only thing about the meal I didn't like was the dessert. While they are homemade for sure. What they have done is to premake them and store in the fridge until served. I would criticises this, as sadly what this does it make the desert "damp". I had the Cheese cake and wifey had the Polvito Uruguayo, but because it was pre-made and stored in the fridge, the biscuit part of the dessert becomes soft and mushy, damp, and not crispy and crunchy. However did appreciate the look and they did look appealing. Still over all we both absolutely enjoy this little bites, I would be back to eat here and would love to try every dish...
Read moreI'm not in the habit of writing reviews, but this one harrowing experience should not go unpunished. Now... after going into the restaurant we were told off to come later as it wasn't open yet. It was 12.30, we complied although on Google maps they were supposed to be open regardless. Coming back at 12.50 we were most rudely told that the kitchen has yet to open. This struck me quite wrong as the presupposed mother of the waiter was already in the see-through kitchen glaring at us. But the true reason we then stood up and went our way was when I politely asked if she really opens the kitchen at 13.00 (she told off a customer who came at 12.55 which struck me as strange) and her body language was as arrogant as it can get, same as her reply "Yes, so what?". With no lack of good restaurants on the isle, do yourself a favour and go where you...
Read moreAte here last night, did not order tapas which seems to be the best thing to eat. Ordered a small chicken tenders with a portion of fries. I was handed a large bowl filled with "chicken tenders" which were thin strips of chicken with a crumb on and some of them were so hard you couldn't get a fork into them. Had to order fries again and wait for 10 minutes for them so basically my dinner was a bowl of chicken which was so over cooked and dry I couldn't separate it with a knife or bite through with my teeth. When my partner told the waiting staff about their error when they came to take the full bowl of chicken away they were less than accommodating and not very nice about the whole situation. I would never eat here again after this experience I was so...
