This was our second stay at Hotel RD Mar de Portals, our first stay in a standard double room for 7 days in September 2016 was fantastic, so we did something we’d never considered doing before and booked the same hotel again, and this time we booked for 10 nights.
On arrival, we were given a few options to upgrade by the very patient and friendly Moha, and after checking the rooms out we opted to upgrade to one of the brand-new Romance rooms in the newly renovated building which came with its own private area on the roof top with a Bali bed and jacuzzi and fabulous sea views. Our room (on the 3rd floor) was perfect, spacious, and stylish with a great bathroom with walk in shower, a good-sized balcony, and the bonus of a Nespresso machine. The housekeeping staff are absolutely spot on and the room looked brand new every day.
There was still some works going on to get the new block of rooms ready, but the guys were very polite and to be honest we never really noticed any noise etc. The pools and surrounding sun deck areas are great, and the team are out every morning making sure they look immaculate.
The exclusive area is nice, with Bali beds, a shallow pool to cool off and a buzzer on the table so you can order drinks; but to be honest as we had our own Bali bed and jacuzzi on the roof top we didn’t go there that often.
As with our last visit we opted to go half board, as the food at both breakfast and dinner is tasty, plentiful, and fresh. The service in the restaurant and bars is fantastic, special thanks to Xose, Fernando, Mustafa, Vicer, Jamir, the chefs and kitchen staff (sorry we didn’t get everyone’s names). We also dined at the new À la carte restaurant on a couple of nights, the food was beautiful and a credit to the chefs and a big thanks to Fernando for looking after us.
The reception staff especially Helena, Moha and Daniela are friendly and helpful, assisting us with transfers, car rental and local information. We booked the shuttle into Palma which was great and only took about 10-15 minutes.
The location is fantastic, with the most perfect little beach at the bottom of the road. The village is about a 12-minute walk away, though be warned the road up is very steep but luckily there are plenty of places to have a refreshing drink or bite to eat when you get there.
A fantastic stay again, even better than the first time and it looks like it’s going to be even more luxurious in the future.
Thanks again to everyone who looked after us, we have serious holiday blues now, but we will be back

Read moreThis intimate boutique hotel is spread between two sites very close to each other. My partner and I opted for the adults only option which was in a separate building a short drive / a”walk from the main reception. On arrival we were greeted by a very lovely, friendly & welcoming lady who checked us in even though it was still early morning. She also helped us with things later on in our stay & couldn’t have been more helpful, a real asset to the hotel. Our room would be ready at 3 but we were given a room to store our luggage and get changed into our pool wear.. fantastic! We used the lovely pool facilities in the Tacanda building, had a little walk to the beach, which is only minutes from the hotel then returned at 3 and were taken by minibus around to the Costas building which is adult only & just minutes away! Gorgeous fresh reception, warm & welcoming staff once again! The very friendly fella who drove us up also took us to our room & gave us everything we needed to know! Now I need to address the building site issues mentioned in previous reviews ..! Yes, there is building going on around the hotel but not at the hotel & I did have worries about this but I hand on heart can say this did not affect our stay at all!! I will say it is worth booking a sea view as then you are on the opposite side to the building site & there is no noise whatsoever! We sat by the pool daily & heard nothing other than the quiet ambient music provided by the hotel! Breakfast was super yummy & lots of veggie 🌱 options too!! Drinks were lovely, always Ice cold & very reasonably priced ! Every staff member we encountered were absolutely lovely! Lots of lovely restaurants just a short walk away. To sum up we will certainly be returning (they also offer 5% off for returning customers which is a lovely touch). Definitely a sea view again but an upgrade to a comfort room as we were admiring the sun lounges on a big balcony 😍! I am cabin crew so work, play & stay in hotels around the world & can honestly say this is more than value for money & thoroughly enjoyable! Thank you for a relaxing & lovely few days Costas Portals. We will be back !...
Read moreWhen I have arrived the floors in my room were full of send On the second day I had to tell at the reception that the towels weren't gathered and weren't changed they just stayed lying around the room as they were left by us (I don't think they were changing towels every day anyways) Walls are made of cardboard you can hear even when someone is closing the drapes On our last night we were woken up around 3am becuase of some Italian drama. The couple was fighting and screaming so hard I thought they were gonna kill each other so naturally I wanted to call the reception.. which brings me to point nr.4 there is no info in the room what is the phone nr of the reception they just tell you upon arrival (4digit r) so if you don't pay attention you won't find it written anywhere in the room So I had to make a trip to the reception in the middle of the night to ask them to come and calm down the couple. Where I found another guest already complaining. Ridiculously she thought it was from her floor and k was sure the noise was coming from our floor, hence you can imagine how terrible isolation is. One day I found that two jams that were placed have had fungus in it. So beware what you are eating The stuff knew we wanted to change the room but because there was no aviability we had to stay in the our room and on one of the days we have ordered a bottle of cava that I thought towards the end they would say that since we've had some inconveniences they would just gift it to us. It's not a problem to pay for it but this way they could have gained at least a little bit of a better opinion You can change the towels between 10-18 So if you plan to go to the beach early and that probably what you want to do otherwise you won't be able to get the sunbed. They are taken very quickly and if you want to stay at the beach all day you aren't able to change the towel at all. Or if you want to go around the island and leave early So we ended up using same towels for 1 week. In my opinion that's huge inconvenience. Door opening card never worked well. Sometimes it took us more then a min to get...
