After a 7 day stay at this what should be a nice little hotel I am afraid to come away dissatisfied and extremely disappointed in particular members of staff. The main part of this hotel which I have been annoyed at is the bar staff at lunch time. They take forever to take your order faffing about before even noticing you and don’t make eye contact with you. I have also noticed they ignore younger people unless they have met them previously and like them. Furthermore, they favour Spanish people as shown yesterday especially when my brother and his girlfriend were stood at the bar for a good 20 minutes before being noticed while a few Spanish people get served within seconds of walking up to the bar. Although every single day my family and I have experienced something irritating due to the bar staff, there are some positives. The food is decent and there is a lovely German man who always chats with you and serves you as soon as he can. His evening partner, a woman who does make good drinks yet is partially the reason this is a 3 star review, looks like she doesn’t want to be there and isn’t very welcoming, as well as ignoring people at the bar. At lunch time, a staff member came to serve us and in the middle of our order, ran off for a good half an hour hunting down someone who had not paid leaving the tables to wait with no apology or explanation. I could go on forever about the bar staff but to summarise there is one good bartender who is constantly let down by the others when he tries his best. Another member of staff who fails to do his job properly is one of the life guards. Everyday while I have been here he has opened and closed the pool every morning and evening. From observing him at breakfast I have found he takes around 40 minutes to remove some poles and chains surrounding the pool. Not only that but he’s often seen sat in the bar not even peeking at the pool and messing about and distracting the other staff around the pool. I don’t think he even would notices if a child needed help. His job seems to be to mess about with some chains and poles twice a day and just sit around or eat by the bar for the rest of the day. The staff act as if they are open to the feedback but simply say ‘I know, I know’ when you tell them of the issues. They are aware it’s needing changing but don’t make the changes or even think about them. The manager needs to be around more often because the staff behave better around him for example at breakfast where the food is lovely and the staff are welcoming and friendly. The reviews for this hotel are shocking. Clearly it’s easier to give good feedback or bad but I am aware it’s not just my family who are experiencing this after we have talked to various people by the bar who have the same concerns for the hotel. We have been let down this holiday. Do yourself a favour and either don’t come or book boat trips, meals out or the western waterpark...
Read moreWe had a lovely stay. The standard of the bedrooms is the only thing that lets it down. At first I was given a suite which really shouldn’t be called a suite, their version of a suite is a room that sleeps 3 due to the plasticky looking sofa bed. The room was spacious but the bed was in the back of the room so no outside window and gloomy. Bed should be by the terrace doors, odd layout. So swapped rooms. Both rooms were tired and dated. The cleaning is good but the ageing and tiredness overshadows that, see bathroom grout pics. I could see that work has been done to try and ‘modernise’ the rooms but it hasn’t been done using quality materials nor to a good standard. The fixtures lights fittings/furniture are cheap, doors are hollow ply with lots of chips and marks which really age it. Very cheap soft furnishings in the 2nd room I had. The poorly laid laminate floor was lifting in areas with gaps. The walls are old fashioned render painted over from the 1970’s. No privacy as the room is looked into by 2 high rise buildings opposite with terraces which you don’t see on the advert pics. This is the case for many of the rooms as they face the same way. A light net to draw across the windows would be useful rather than having to shut the thick curtains all the time for privacy. I had paid for a sea view but it’s really a side distant view, I had a much better view of next doors residential apartment block. See pics. |No robes or slippers which you would expect in a 4 star. Kitchenette has no crockery or even cutlery …. apart from 3 cups and 2 tumblers which was strange. We weren’t planning on eating in the room so it was fine for us but for those that do like a kitchen be aware. No tv in bedroom.|The are lots of good points such as comfy beds (singles together which move apart easily) beautifully decorated communal areas, pool is large and lovely although extremely cold, good sunbeds and we always got one. Very good food at the bar reasonably priced too, we ate lunch twice here. Breakfast is good with plenty of choice. Lovely friendly staff. Excellent location close to marina and village and most importantly clean. |We will come back to area soon as we loved it but would not come back to this hotel purely because of room standard, I asked reception if there was any better standard I could book in future but unfortunately was told they are all the same quality just different sizes. I would definitely book again if they overhauled...
Read moreI am fortunate to be regular guest at Tomir so it’s easy to be biased with any review, but I keep coming back to Tomir because it is so brilliant!! For me, any hotel should be judged by its staff and the whole team at Tomir are fantastic. I believe this is something that always comes from the top and I have never seen a hotel management team so “hands on” as Nicolas (the manager) and Carmen (assistant manager) are always around chatting to guests and can often be seen helping out, such as tidying plates away at breakfast. Managers at big hotels like this are normally sat at their desk shut away in an office all day. And it gives this immediately friendly, welcoming atmosphere which is continued by all the staff. I don’t stay in any other hotel where you get such a friendly environment, and it really does add significantly to the enjoyment of your stay. The atmosphere generally amongst the guests I find is also very friendly. In terms of the hotel itself, I’ve always found it to be spotlessly clean, the rooms are spacious and comfortable, the breakfast buffet is excellent with a wide selection of high quality choice (and the best eggs cooked to order!) and the lunch, although a fairly simple menu, is done really well (caprese salad the highlight for me!) and it’s all reasonably priced, as are the drinks, which is often not the case! Although they do offer food into the evening, it’s usually very quiet as the majority of guests will be eating out. However, a must do for anyone is to have a drink up at their rooftop bar in the evening, this was all new for last year and they have done an amazing job on it, one of the best views in the whole of this part of the island, stunning! Admittedly some of the lower level views of the surrounding apartment blocks may not be as good, but then that’s the offset for being in a residential area so conveniently located only 5 mins walk from Portals marina. The swimming pool is huge and although the sunbeds will get busy, very rarely do you find that there isn’t one available. But yes, in my opinion the Tomir does have this uniquely friendly atmosphere that’s difficult to put into words, but once you’ve stayed there, it’s easy to see why so many guests (like me!) keep coming back time and time again. A big thank you to all the team and I look forward to seeing you all...
