We stayed in a three bedroom apartment (5D) for just over a week. I had spent hours looking for a place for our two young adult children (18 and 20) to stay so they could be safely independent if they wanted to wander the streets on their own, and that was local enough that we could see the sights with relative ease, and after much searching I settled on the Aspasios Apartments on Calle Mayor. We loved: that the apartment was less than a 5 minute walk from the metro, around the corner from a gourmet food shopping/eating market and a small grocery store (but try the grocery shopping in El Cortes Ingles, basement level - it's incredibly well stocked), had a well stocked kitchen (including a Nespresso like machine), quiet (which you'll see is not a common comment for other hotels/apartments in Madrid, probably because our apartment was at the back of the hotel), and had very comfortable beds. We would have liked if the pillows were better (each bed seemed to have one good one but the rest were lumpy like they had been washed too many times) and a bit nicer decor (everything was white and very bland, and the hallway floor in the apartment needed repair). We intensely disliked the futon like cushions in the living room. They were hard and uncomfortable, and while you don't travel to Spain to sit inside the reality is that after walking 10-15 km/day you need to relax somehow. The owners really should consider replacing these. The front desk staff service, particularly by Alex, was outstanding. He was professional, friendly, and happy to help us make sure we enjoyed our holiday by giving suggestions or directions. If we return to Madrid I would certainly keep Aspasios Calle Mayor apartments on my list of places to consider staying and I'm very picky. (as an aside, I had also thought about the Gran Via Capital Hotel which we stayed in for one night after going to Barcelona. The apartment was more nicely furnished than the one we had at Aspasios but the noise coming from Gran Via through the windows was incredible....and we were on the 5th floor in 5B. If you can sleep through anything you'll be fine but if not, apartments like Aspasios at the back of the hotel in 5D might be a better choice...it...
Read moreThe apartments are lovely, modern and in an excellent location. It's a few minute walk from Sol and another 5 to 10 minutes to Gran Via. It's pretty much across the road from the Plaza and a 15 walk to the palace. There's a few small supermarkets nearby but there's the large one in the department store.
We had a one bedroom apartment which was spacious and had a nice view of the street. The street was busy and could be loud at times when the windows were opened. However when the windows were shut properly, it was fairly sound proof.
There was a double bed in the bedroom and the sofa bed in the living room also sleeps two. The kitchen is an open kitchen and has all the amenities you'd need including hobs, microwave, kettle, etc. Tea and coffee etc are also provided.
The TV didn't really have English channels but there's so much to do in Madrid that we didn't have much time to watch TV anyway.
The bathroom had a nice walk in shower. The toiletries provided are very small so youll probably have to buy some more. A hair dryer is provided, it's not the best but it does the job. The only issue that bothered us was that the drains from the sink smelled foul at times. We spoke to reception who offered some cleaning solution for it but we were on our way out to do some sightseeing and didn't get round to it. Nonetheless it was great that the team here was helpful.
Overall we had a lovely stay and would definitely...
Read moreWe stayed at Aspasios Calle Mayor Apartments for three night in November.||||It is located right in the heart of the center of Madrid and it's attractions. Plaza Mayor is literally right across the street, Puerto del Sol is a 5 min walk where there is shopping and the Metro station you can take to basically anywhere. ||There are bars and restaurants right when you step outside and they are they are all good. Did not have a bad meal anywhere in town. Conveniently there was a Cervezaria about 50 feet away that have 1 euro mugs of beer and 1.5 euro mini sandwiches. ||||We stayed in apartment 2A which was very spacious which had a queen bed in the bedroom and a sofabed in the the living room. There is a full service kitchen with washer and dryer as well. Both rooms have small terraces you can look down to the main street Mayor. The apartment was clean and quiet at night even though it is on a major street. The only critique i would have is the bathroom was rather small but it is Europe after all.||||Other helpful tips:||Take the Metro from the airport to the the apartment. It will probably be quicker than a cab because of the traffic. Buying Metro ticket is easy at one of the kiosks where you can select English.||If you do decide to take the taxi it is a 30 euro flat fee. Before you take off though mention that to the cab driver. We did not and he charged us on the meter which was...
