Having only one full day in Madrid and solo travelling I decided that I wanted to eat as much tapas as physically possible haha. So I visited this place twice in one day. I think if you’re with a partner or in a group then once is enough it’s just as a solo person it can be hard to go out to dinner and not have people stare at you, so this is perfect for any solo travellers that want to try as much Spanish food as possible. I think minimum you will spend €10 and that’s if you only buy the cheapest food there. I didn’t eat much at lunch as I wasn’t particularly hungry but I ate more at dinner and bought drinks. Sangria for I think €3.4 and vermouth for €2.9! Very good prices! There is one side to the market which is slightly cheaper than the other so be aware of that- you may enter on the more expensive side.
Mixed reviews of the people I met there (as in the customers). I met some lovely Americans that were on holiday visiting their daughter that was studying there and chatted for some time with a man from Argentina and had a few quick chats with people at the counters but I also experienced some nasty looks or words from people when asking if I could use a seat near them (to eat one item I had bought- take me a maximum of two minutes). So 50/50 with the people I met. Mostly the nicer ones were those that weren’t couples or groups of women.
Talking of people I had a few circumstances where the staff were a bit rude (behind the counters) or served men before me that had arrived clearly after me. But to be honest I could understand a little bit the rudeness- at times it got incredibly hectic and therefore very stressful for them.
With this I would say dinner time (7.30/8 and beyond) is better than lunchtime. I went around 1.45 and...
