We have just returned from a week at H10 Lanzarote princess. We went as a family of 6, which included two children ages 13 and 16. ||First impressions, beautiful hotel and clean and fresh. Good sized rooms and the beds are comfy. No issues at all, but twice room service didn't clean our room (not a huge issue but meant we had to go to reception for fresh towels) on the days room service did come in, it was hit and miss as to how much they had cleaned, again not a huge issue as we are tidy and clean anyway. We enjoyed our room and we were pool facing with a nice view, but be aware the fair opposite the hotel can be heard (due to the wind) and is noisy until around 11.30pm, but in the rooms facing the other way it cannot be heard.||Restaurant and food, we travelled with my son who has coeliac disease and the restaurant were amazing with him and would show him around every single meal time showing him what was safe and what was not. At breakfast they offered him bread and to make him fresh pancakes. |During lunch and dinner they made him fresh chips (as not safe from main buffet) BUT in the snack bar the chips are safe as cooked in separate fryer. It's worth mentioning in the snack bar there is nothing else safe for coeliac except chips. ||The food did let this hotel down, sadly. We are not fussy but some of the food was inedible, cold and it was rinse and repeat daily, so we did end up eating out most evenings. The restaurant also gets extremely busy and there is a lack of counters/selection. It's probably one of the worst AI food selections I have experienced and is also worth mentioning that the kids buffet section is not open during lunch time and in the evenings it is such a small selection that I struggled to find food for my fussy daughter as they don't offer sausages, chicken nuggets, burgers or fussy child friendly options. ||You also have the Italian and Japanese restaurants which you can book once during your stay. We ate in the Italian and honestly it was nothing to rave about, it was just restaurant food cooked fresh. For example the mushrooms on the pizza were tinned, the same as they served for breakfast in the main restaurant. ||You also have Mike's coffee bar which serves milkshakes, iced coffees and normal coffee, which was lovely and included but be aware the cakes are not included in the AI. |Also you couldn't help yourself to a drink at lunch or dinner which meant waiting ages for a member of staff to come to you, you couldn't even get water out of a machine, so I'd definitely recommend them having a drinks machine or at least a water machine as for example after breakfast the first bar doesn't open until 10:30 which is a long time with no water on a hot day. ||The hotel definitely needs more staff as it was busy and there were queues on busier/sunnier days for the bars and food, the staff worked really hard and did their best but there isn't enough staff for the size of the hotel. Most staff were friendly, helpful and pleasant, other than a few who did ignore us, were rude and huffed and puffed.||You can also hire the tennis courts for free at reception, which was good fun and also ping-pong. The entertainment team seemed to have lots of activities going on throughout the day. We didn't sit in the evening entertainment, but we tried to go in one evening and unfortunately the entertainment room is only small. ||The surrounding area is beautiful and amazing. You can exit at the back of the hotel and walk either left or right with shops either side and the marina to the left. There is a market on Wednesdays at the Rubicon marina between 10am-1pm which is worth a walk down. Also worth noting LOTS of restaurants cater for GF so definitely worth asking if not advertised, we got my son a GF baguette and chips for €4 in one restaurant and the other places we ate accommodated for him. There is a lovely gelato at the Lasal who offer GF ice cream cones and take cross-contamination seriously. Namaste the Indian at the Lasal also offered to make GF naan bread for my son. ||The pools were lovely and the surrounding areas were clean and tidy and staff worked hard to maintain this. You cannot reserve sunbeds, which is fabulous as means you don't feel rushed to get to the pool, and we did see them removing towels from people who had reserved them. Be aware on the days the weather was nice all of the sunbeds were full. People mention the pools are cold, we didn't find this, I found them similar to other pools, but I think the weather makes them feel colder as we did have a good few cloudy days and the wind was pretty brutal which made it feel cold in the pool, but on the sunny days it felt refreshing.||Overall a lovely experience and enjoyable holiday with the only complaint...
Read moreA lengthy & honest review, also for those with GF allergies! We stayed here as a family of 9 (4 adults & 5 kids) ||Pros |- hotel is in a good location, 5 mins from the beach and a 10-20 minute walk to restaurants and shops||- hotel is large, spacious & majority of the staff are really lovely & helpful . Cleaners work hard and came everyday unless we asked them not too.||- small heated indoor pool area, small gym & a spa||- Family water activities in the pool , chess games, mini golf, pool and air hockey tables too||- breakfast was good, plenty of variety to choose from||- kids mini disco at night kept our little ones happy on the days we stayed in the hotel||- Plenty of sun beds still around 9.30/10am, didn’t have to rush to get up to grab a bed by the pool which was a first!||- I messaged prior to our arrival to ask if we could have rooms at a quieter area of the hotel & this was allocated, they did say only if they can accommodate this, we were located rooms next to each other , our view wasn’t great , just a bunch of trees but we were happy with that as it was really peaceful, no nighttime or early morning noise! we stayed in rooms 1023-1026||- Reception staff always happy to help ||Cons ||- The hotel, especially the rooms are in desperate need of a refurbishment||- We had an ant problem in our room & they kept coming in from the balcony, when I spoke with reception they sent someone up straight away to sort , it wasn’t as bad after this but it was still a slight issue||- small fridge in the room, absolutely tiny and you can barely fit anything in, wasn’t very cold either||- Pool was absolutely freezing, especially the kids area, we actually only used the pool twice during our week stay & not for very long! We spent most our holiday down at the beach as the sea was clear & warmer. ||- Evening food wasn’t great, I find this with most buffet style places wherever you go though it’s all similar ||- The hotel is cashless (only reception take cash) if half board you can use a debit/travel card or scan your wristband which then adds onto your room as an open bill, which we weren’t keen on. This information wasn’t provided clearly enough on arrival . When I went to pay with cash at the bar I was shouted at! ||- Kids club is only for 4-7 years old, my friends children couldn’t use the kids club as although they are 4 within a few weeks the lady said she couldn’t stay with them as other children would want their parents too! So it meant they couldn’t be involved with any activities because the staff member who has the degree/qualification of looking after the little ones wasn’t in until the weds before we left. ||Gluten free - |- My daughter is GF, we mentioned this on arrival and was given a card to show at meal times, the chef took us round and showed us what she could & couldn’t have.||- We requested pancakes each morning , definitely not freshly made, more like shop bought as they were often hard & not very warm . she got fed up of this after a few days. a few times we were given muffins and small donuts, also GF sausages and scrambled egg with toast. You just have to ask a member of staff ||- Evening meals have to be ordered the evening before which I found difficult as my daughter doesn’t always know what she wants, and the pizza she was given on one evening was awful, it came out burnt & hard, she had one slice and couldn’t eat the rest. The first evening we went for food. I asked for GF pizza but was told it had to be ordered the evening before or the morning yet nobody mentioned this to us on arrival so my daughter could only eat GF chips, being an 8 year old I found there isn’t much GF choices for young children in the evening||- The hotel could massively benefit from a GF section for toasts, cereal, pastries, milks etc this would be less hassle for both staff & guests. Some days we went through 4 different people to try and get something GF, it was very stressful as there is a huge language barrier at this hotel. This would save time for everyone & help the language barrier . A section dedicated to those with allergies only would really benefit so many people and be a massive hit with guests. Even another coloured wristband to show staff, that these guests have allergies would be helpful.||Overall we did have a lovely stay even if there were...
Read moreWe stayed at H10 princess lanzarote for 11 nights in August all inclusive. In short, this hotel doesn't deserve it's 4 star reputation.
I'll start with the positives. The hotel is in a great location. We went to the beach which is closeby a few times and went snorkelling. There's a market about a 30 minute walk away on Saturdays which was nice to explore. There are shops and restaurants nearby. The outdoor pool is lovely - great size and has different depths which feels very inclusive for kids and adults alike. Mike's coffee bar and the Asian restaurant are the stars of this hotel and definitely set it apart from others. You can enjoy live cooking at the Asian restaurant, and Mike's has a good range of tasty drinks.
There are plenty of sunbeds, but only about 50% of those beds have parasols, so do bear that in mind if you need some shade. The hotel do strictly enforce a 'no reserving beds before 10:30am' rule which is good, and it didn't tend to get full until approximately 9:30/10am.
The food in the restaurant isn't great. Breakfast is the best of the 3 meals with a good selection of things in my opinion but food is often lukewarm at best at all meals. There isn't much choice at lunch or dinner so we often struggled to find food we wanted. There are no covers on the food so there are flies on everything. There is a chef freshly cooking different meat and fish at lunch and dinner, however one lunch time i spotted the chef using a pair of tongs to grab a raw chicken breast and put it on the grill and immediately after, she picked up a cooked chicken breast and put it on the serving plate. I didn't have the freshly cooked meat after seeing that.
There aren't enough staff at dinner time. Not the fault of the staff as they were always busy working taking drink orders etc, but tables were left uncleared for long periods which often made it difficult to find a place to sit. We found 8:30pm to be a good time to go for dinner to avoid this rush.
Most of the hotel could do with a paint job. It looks run down. Peeling paint and grubby chairs in the restaurant. Our hotel room had marks on the walls. All aesthetic things rather than practical, but still important in a 4* establishment. The Italian and Asian restaurants, on the other hand, are modern and nicely decorated.
The ground floor toilets by Mike's coffee bar frequently smelled like urine.
There is evening entertainment with various shows and performances which are outside in the summer but there are barely any seats so we didn't get the opportunity to see these without standing around for an hour. There's a lack of outdoor seating generally in the evening so your only option really is to sit inside in the vintage bar. The vintage bar is lovely, but I feel that the hotel could do more with its outdoor space in the evening.
There are activities. Water polo is on most days. Archery is good with proper arrows. The TUI website for this hotel mentions volleyball but there is no volleyball here - no fault of the hotel, just simply stating! Activities didn't tend to start on time: we went to French bowls at 11 (start time listed as 11) and the animation team member didn't arrive until 11:25. We waited for 'art and wine' on Saturday and nobody showed up.
It is worth noting that at the end of each activity, the animation team prompt you with QR codes to leave a Google review for them and the hotel. When you scroll through the Google reviews, there are plentiful positive reviews that only refer to the animation team, and occasionally the odd sweeping comment about the hotel itself. I am not suggesting that the animation team don't deserve these positive reviews - they were friendly and encouraging in the activities. However, these reviews do not accurately reflect the quality of the hotel as a whole. I strongly suggest you look at the lengthier reviews to get a more accurate picture of this hotel, rather than taking the 4.5 star average for granted.
Overall, we had a nice holiday. However I wouldn't recommend this hotel. For the money you pay, it...
