Drinks at the king of the Mambo. I arrived at the restaurant with two female guest.. Had a 7:30 pm reservation. Place was empty. I mean dead. Decided to order some drinks before dinner. Ladies ordered cocktails and I ordered Sangria. I was told sangria can serve 7-8 glasses. However, when the first picture came it was small, maybe 2 glasses. I tasted the sangria and realized the whole concoction was artificial. To be honest disgusting. Call for the manage and a young bartender came to defend his drink. He immediately introduced himself as the mixologist. Never heard a bartender refer himself as mixologist, unless he is new inexperienced and no skills. He argued with me for 20 minutes . Luckily very few customers. I asked the ladies to taste the sangria. One sip and they spat it out. I told the so called mixologist, I would pay for the sangria. He insisted on two things. (1) he will save the 3 carafes in case I wanted to drink it later. (2) If i did not drink the carafes he would not charge me. Long story short after dines I asked for the bill. The sangria was on the bill. So I went to him and asked him to explain plus call the manager. There were a few more people in the bar. Time 10:15 pm. The mixologist denied ever telling me he would remove the drinks off the bill. So then I asked him to give me the 3 carafes he supposedly stored in the fridge for me to drink later. Mysteriously the 3 carafes were empty and washed. I have now paid for these drinks. I asked the manager what can be done. He insisted the mixologist give me what I ordered 3 carafes of sangria. I tasted a small quantity of this. It was better that the first batch. But dinner was over. Since the manager and mixologist refused to take the sangria off the bill I poured all 3 carafes out and walked out. The moron that claimed he was a mixologist and no skills talent and experience. He was straight out of bar-tending school. He had no idea what sangria tasted like. He had no customer skills. To carry on a full blown argument with a customer in front of all the patrons. The manager a short little man tried his best to back his boy even acknowledging the bartender's lack of talent and customer skill.
Recommendation: If the Galle face hotel is serious about service and reputation either provide proper training to these employees or best fire them. I shall be happy to offer my services for a month to run the bar and restaurant as professional. Definitely get rid of the mixologist. I did not include their names which I...
Read moreIf you are looking for a place to enjoy some Latin American cuisines, liquor beverages and other Italian cuisines in Colombo, you might want to check out the restaurant I visited three weeks ago. It is called King of the Mambo and it is located in a cozy and elegant building in the Galle Face Hotel. The restaurant has a spacious and comfortable dining area, with a warm and inviting atmosphere facing towards the beach with a mesmerizing sunset where you can observe in the evening. The staff are friendly and attentive, and they make sure you have a great experience. The menu offers a variety of dishes, from appetizers and salads to pasta and many other items. Service is a bit slow when it is crowded during peak hours.
I ordered the ALBONDICAS CON PASTA, PASTA DEL MAR, with fries, and a Mojito. The ALBONDICAS CON PASTA was served with tomato sauce and lamb meatballs consisting of spaghetti whereas PASTA DEL MAR was served with the freshest seafood consisting of spaghetti mixed with tomato sauce. The fries were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, and they came with ketchup. The Mojito was smooth and refreshing, and it complemented the meal perfectly. My friends and family ordered many varieties of Spaghetti with refreshing beverages. The ordered beverages were cold(perfect), and it balanced the spiciness of the meals my friends and family ordered. We enjoyed our food and drinks, and we were satisfied with the portions and the prices.
We had a wonderful time at King of the Mambo, and we would definitely recommend it to anyone who loves Latin American food. The restaurant has a great ambiance, service and food quality, and it is suitable for any occasion. Whether you are looking for a romantic date night, a family outing or a casual hangout with friends, you will find something to suit your taste at King...
Read moreWe've always had a great experience here but the most recent evening we spent here celebrating one of our best friend's birthday was exceptional!
First as someone who loves the sea, the super-close-to-the-waves seating was just magical. Idk how many photos and videos I took just because lol the view is simply mesmerizing (but watch your hair - the sea breeze quickly gets to it haha but totally worth it).
The manager Nalin (yes, we got his name! lol) was super friendly, kind, and attentive. He made sure we were having a great time throughout our stay there. He answered all our questions without ever seeming bored or annoyed, genuinely happy to help and WAS super helpful.
Of course, the music was to die for. The female solo singer was also super skilled with her flute and was accompanied by a fantastic drummer. As I understand they're both Cuban and the lady sang almost all my favorite Spanish songs in her rendition which were on some occasions better than the original! Even the deejay had some fab tunes to keep you on your toes! Kudos 👏
You should absolutely come here for the happy hour that's from 5pm - 7pm and stay for dinner, the beautiful Spanish singing and dance the night away from where you're seated, or get to the dance floor if you're feeling the connection 😉
Highly recommend spending a Friday or Saturday evening/night - especially if you love the sea, cocktails, Spanish music,...
