The restaurant is definitely upscale and nicely decorated. For having a big even at hotel tomorrow with how many people are staying at this hotel....I'm surprised that we were the only dinners there. There were so many staff just standing around running to you to see if you need something if you dare to glance their way. All staff were nice, courteous and attentive. However our server lacked confidence. When dealing with a crowd that would come to this restaurant whom have money you need to stand your ground and show confidence and know your menu and food very well. Especially with how many people travel here and are foreigners. My mocktail was good, husband's wine was good and the Port wine was delish! My main course was the Mignon and was not cooked Medium - Rare as asked. The chef came out out so meek and looked like he was going to cry before we even stated what was wrong with the dish. He is another person whom lacks confidence. Husbands Lamb was delish. The meat sauces were both very delish! Side dishes of mushrooms and asparagus were tasty. Dessert we had was the Panna Cotta. It's good but lacked any sugar. I'd go again. Price is def your typical steakhouse amounts. Just wished the servers smiled and showed confidence. I've dined a lot around the world, worked in restaurants myself and family owned their own restaurant as well. So saying this...
Read moreA delightful surprise, Serendipity ! Doors were closed and the corridors were quite, there was hardly see any activity nor people. The small notice said '1864'. It was only curiosity that compelled me to pull the brass handle which i was sure was locked. The staff in black were in individual groups. They all looked up, the 7 smart faces looked as surprised as I was that the door was opened. There was pause and then came a polite Good evening Sir, I responded asking if they were open. Love to welcome you was the entertaining reply. The décor was most impressive with a selection of Anoli Pereras art work thoughtfully placed. the manager Chaminda Priyankara Perera was impressive with his knowledge of both wine and beverage. he invited me to Tasted his, Lemon peel marinated gin and Orange infused Vodka BUT thought Strawberries preserved in Campari to be exotic. Sahan the gentle giant insisted on showing me the unground cellar. Nabeel too expressed his knowledge on wine and how best each should accompany a specific food. his simple explanation on how wine enhances the tate buenhancement was nice. Priyankara tells me that the restaurant is Michelin Star level 2 as confirmed by the Chef, Bjorn Van Horst Ber who is a Michelin star level 2. I am Still to...
Read moreWhat an absolutely amazing place to experience REAL casual fine dining in Colombo 🤩 this place really exceeded all our expectations! I highly recommend it
Firstly, the staff is beyond hospitable and so attentive! From explaining the menu to pouring the wine, they were nothing short of amazing. Aruna and Pradeep deserve all the credit. Senuri (restaurant manager) and Chathuri were so welcoming and friendly! Loved everyone’s energy and enthusiasm
The food was to die for! We had the pork belly and giant prawn starter, the beef fillet cooked to perfection, the sorbets, and finally the dessert was just making my taste buds dance a happy dance 😄
And all of this for two people, plus a bottle of wine was around 50,000 rupees. For this kind of service, ambience and food, it was an absolute steal considering how overpriced most places are these days! Can’t...
