● Presentation of Food

The presentation of food was very attractive. The chicken pasta was served in a plate which had the shape of a hat when turned upside down. A good portion of chicken was served and the dish was garnished by mint leaves on top. The Brownie milkshake was served in a tall glass with chocolate sauce, whip cream and two pieces of Brownie. Score – 9/10

● Cleanliness of cutlery

The cutlery is given separately with each dish and they were up to standard. Score – 10/10

● Menu Selection

The menu was printed on 3 large wooden boards which I think was a creative idea. However it is not that easy to handle due to it being bulky. There is a decent range of milkshakes, pastas and meat dishes. Overall the menu was good. Score 8/10

● Atmosphere

This restaurant has an outdoor dining area which is located on the top floor. It’s a good place to chill out with friends. A soft music is played in the background which makes the atmosphere more relaxing. After the order was paced, a wooden token was given which had the Wi-Fi password printed on it. This location has free Wi-Fi which I think is a great plus point. Score – 4/5

● Parking and convenience

The parking area was smaller than expected. It is better if they can add more parking space. Approximately the property can park 7 vehicles. Score – 3/5

● Overall Cleanliness

The overall cleanliness is at a high level of satisfaction. The tables and chairs are very clean and comfortable. Score – 5/5

● Level of Service

Attitude of staff and greeting The level of service is great. The staff was polite and served food in an efficient manner. They also did greet us when we were about to leave as well. However, they could improve their level of service to a much higher standard. Score – 8/10

● Time taken to prepare food

It took approximately 15 minutes to serve the milkshake after the order was placed. The pasta took approximately 25-30 minutes. I would say that this is a decent time scale. They can improve though. Score – 4/5

As a business owner myself, I understand that occasional issues and setbacks can happen. I’m writing this review in the hope that it will be taken seriously and lead to improvements.

The food here is consistently above the Sri Lankan average – both in terms of taste and portion size. I’ve almost always been satisfied with what I’ve ordered, and the fact that the place is open 24/7 is a great advantage.

However, the experience I had on the morning of July 7th, 2025 at around 4:00 AM was incredibly disappointing.

First of all, the staff seemed like they were being forced to work — their attitude while taking the order and during payment was really off-putting. It was so strange that I started to wonder if I had done something wrong. For reference, I ordered a beef burger and a Coke, and while the food itself was up to the usual standard, when I asked for a second Coke midway through the meal, it took so long to arrive that I genuinely felt like the team had gathered to reinvent the concept of soda.

Even that would’ve been forgivable if not for what happened around 6:00 AM in the designated smoking/outdoor seating area. A staff member began sweeping and tidying up — not gently, but in the loudest and dustiest way possible. It became impossible to breathe or enjoy the space. If you review the cleaning roster or CCTV footage, you’ll be able to identify the person responsible. I even asked for his name, but couldn’t quite understand it.

The level of disturbance was so high that I ended up leaving, as you can probably see on the cameras. Instead of ordering breakfast, I went to the café right next door — simply because of how unpleasant the atmosphere had become. No customer should have to deal with someone aggressively sweeping and making noise at that hour, right next to seated guests.

I normally avoid leaving negative reviews, but I believe that constructive feedback is necessary — especially for businesses I genuinely like and want to keep coming back to.

I sincerely hope action is taken...

I normally do not tend to take down a good review of a place that I have had such a great experience with, but the decline in the quality of service I received in the past few nights have made me realise that I will not be coming back here ever, nor will my friends or family. Let me be very clear, this place was quite a safe haven for me and my friends, as we work late nights we always come after hours. We were always greeted so kindly and received exceptional customer service all the time. And especially, I wanted to mention by name itself as I will never forget, Mr. Sanjay and his team gave us the utmost best service we have ever received in any restaurant we have been to with consistency.

But these few nights, it has had a rapid decline. Mr. Sanjay was not there for certain (at least on the nights we went) and it was very clear how much it showed and was evident with our experience! To say that I was completely offended by the lack of clear communication and basic customer service/interaction provided by the staff this past week here consecutively, is an understatement. I rarely give any restaurant or cafè a bad review and I thought I didn't have to ever, for peppermint cafè till now. Its not just the bad service or the lack of cleanliness and attention to detail by the staff, its the fact that this was not the case at all for the last few years or even the last few weeks I have been here. Just 2 weeks back, I was having a chat with Mr. Sanjay on how truly outstanding his and his team's work was and I always looked forward to my nights here with my friends after a long day and night of work. But I feel like its turning into any other half heartedly done, basic coffee place/restaurant in colombo; terrible service with overpriced food. I do not know if they would change their service quality in the coming weeks or months but frankly its not worth it to come back here ever again. We are truly...
