The Hotel Locanda is not super fancy. It isn't a luxury hotel and it doesn't offer spas and saunas. What it is, is clean, handy to town, and pretty reasonably priced. ||||The room I have stayed in (I have stayed there twice) is generously sized, with two double beds. The beds were comfy and the bathrooms clean. The room is very simply decorated. ||||Would I stay there again? Definitely. While I am fond as the next person of the five star luxury hotel experience, generally in fact all I want from a hotel is a quiet room which is decent and clean, which this hotel has always offered. ||||It is very close to the main streets, and very handy for the Basel conference centre. There are plenty of restaurants and cafes around, as well as a bar/restaurant on the ground floor of the hotel. (I don't know how good it may be as I have not eaten there)||||Rates for hotels in Basel include a free transport ticket...
Read moreI stayed in Locanda for 5 days; The hotel is clean and tidy and the staff is friendly, rooms have been recently renovated so it looks nice.||||Hoewever, it was extremely expensive only because it was during a very busy week in Basel, company paid but since you wouldn't even be provided with shower gel or champoo in the bathroom I think it was a proper rip off given the the facilties; I guess that is what happens when Basel is fully booked for a week...||||In any case, make sure you bring your own toiletries, also there is a fridge in the room but totally empty so if you plan to stay for a few days there, you may have to go and buy what you need as you wont find it there.||||Breakfast is ok but nothing special so I ended going out for breakfast every morning.||||As i said clean and tidy with friendly staff but if i can choose I will stay...
Read moreI have been traveling to Basel for 30 years for the BaselWorld watch fair and stayed in many different hotels along the way. This year, i stayed at Hotel Locanda --a very small, no-frills hotel. The cons- as i said, small, no frills. The pros: amazingly friendly family staff, good breakfast and - best of all- a block away from the fairgrounds. Mind you, i am reluctant to post how much I liked this hotel, as I want to be able to go back again and again, but it is only fair to give credit where credit is due. The rooms are tiny, the bathrooms tinier. One pillow, one bottom sheet on the bed, no top sheet. BUT this is all forgotten shortly when one experiences the super friendly staff that always asks how to help, and when one has to walk just a few blocks to get to the fair. Again, no frills...
