We really looked forward to go to this museum because the collection looked very promising. And we found an awesome interesting place in it. We were on a trip so the staff was very helpful and friendly when our bags did not fit into the lockers and kept it safe behind the cashier. The museum itself is a collection of the remains of real animals or parts of them. There is also much interesting information given to the certain objects. You can for example find skeletons of a small dinosaur, a special kind of rhino, many mammals, a snake and also creatures of the sea and from millions of years ago. One of the most impressive things was a giant realistic display of a Mammut. Not all of them were behind glass so the experience got even better because you could touch the animals and bones. In another room you can learn more about the history of the earth itself. A place you definitely should...
Read moreDisappointed with this visit as far as Natural History Museums go. Bern is much better as also is Fribourg or Neuchatel. The building itself is impressive but I found some displays just ‘flat’ thinking, they could have done so much better. eg. there is a gawdy Tyrannosaurus Rex (only the head!?!?) posed in front of a renaissance looking piece of artwork on the wall in a stairway on the way to the 3rd floor... ..why? Its not even close to the Dinosaur displays! Its as if someone decided to feng shui the stairway! Or my other pet hate, the human evolution part with the 5 busts of ‘man’ finishing with Neanderthal Man who has blonde streaks no less! and looks like a German Ibiza DJ from the 80’s!! Seriously!? All in all, if you’re looking for a distraction for an hour or two with the kids its great, otherwise take note Basel, there is MUCH...
Read moreLovely natural history museum, certainly worth a visit if you are on Basel. It is located near the Münster, so you have also have plenty of other sightseeing opportunities if you plan a visit. The entry fees are very reasonable and if you have a Swiss Raiffeisen bank with the member plus option, you can get free entry. The exhibition is distributed on 4 levels and one of them is reserved for specials, which change frequently. You can also take your kids, as there is a lot of cool stuff to see. For example, they got a full ant hive built in a transparent tube system, so you can see their every movement. They also got a mammoth! There is also a place for parking the strollers and having a quick bite, but there is no restaurant or bistro, so you gotta take your own food. Although, there is a vending machine with coffee, tea and...
