I will list the negatives first before I talk the positives.
The room descriptions talk about a king size bed or "twin Pullman" bed. I do not mind two twin beds that mask as a king size bed, but there has to be something holding the mattresses together. Our first night I wound up slipping through the "crack of doom" and winding up wedged between the mattresses. The second night was better because my wife and I made sure to place a suitcase on the bed between us. Do people in Switzerland not cuddle at night?
The second negative was the shower. I cannot believe the last guests did not say anything, or maybe they just used the tub, but the shower was almost dangerous. It was easy to control the water temperature, but then without touching the control, the temperature would plunge to freezing, and then raise to scalding hot. Turning down the control simply meant it took a little longer for the water to turn scalding. I did report the problem at checkout, so hopefully someone fixes it. Watch out if you are in room 516!
Now the good: I will stay here again on my next visit to Basel. (I will just ensure I get a king size bed instead of the twin pullman.) The hotel is incredibly easy to find. Parking while checking in is ample, and it is just around the corner to get to the parking garage. The staff is great. Very friendly and very accommodating. At first glance it seems the hotel is "far" away from the heart of Basel. That is very misleading. There is a tram stop about 30 meters from the front door. It seems like there is a tram every 5 minutes that can take you down to the Marktplatz, or wherever you would like to go and it is only a 4 - 5 minute ride or a very enjoyable 15 minute walk. If you arrive to Basel by train. The tram makes it just as easy to get to the hotel.
The rooms are appointed very well and are very spacious. The hotel did a really good job with the Covid protocols. It was nice having the dot on the key holder; so we did not have to constantly take out our covid certificate and ID. We really enjoyed the variety of complimentary tea in the room. It was cool and rainy on Saturday; so the tea was much appreciated.
Finally, the breakfast was really good. A nice variety of fruit, cereals, eggs, and meats.
Hope you...

We arrived late on Saturday night around 11:30pm, needing a restful night before an early conference the next morning. Check-in was quick, but we weren’t offered any Accor Gold member benefits.
Our room was on the 2nd floor, right by the lift and on the left side of the hotel—unfortunately the same side as the nightclub next door. Loud music continued until 5am, and we were unable to sleep. When we raised this with reception, we were simply told, “It might be from the disco,” with no offer of support or an alternative room.
The second night was slightly better, as the club was closed, but being on a lower floor still meant we were disturbed by street noise, including football fans and trams.
At check-in, we were told breakfast would be 30 minutes earlier on Monday than Sunday (which ended at 11am). However, when we arrived at 10:15am on Monday, breakfast had already been packed away. This lack of clear communication was frustrating. One staff member offered lunch at the restaurant instead, then later on they said retracted the offer and said they could only provide a snack box—which consisted of a ham sandwich, an apple, and a bottle of water. As vegetarians, we had to decline. It was disappointing that no decent alternative was offered, especially given the confusion was due to unclear instructions at reception.
As an Accor Gold member, it was particularly disappointing that no room upgrade or change was offered to help with the noise issue. Even a room of the same category on a higher floor or on the quieter side of the hotel would have made a difference. This is a basic benefit of Gold status and was completely overlooked.
I stayed at the Marriott in Basel just two weeks prior, and the service, staff, and overall experience there was considerably better. I would recommend staying at the...
Read moreThe hotel from the outside doesn't really stand out at first, however when you walk into the lobby and reception area it is very welcoming, modern and pleasant. There is a tram stop just up the street from the hotel, I think it was line 2 from the main rail station as I used the airport bus to get from Basel airport to the main rail station then get the tram from there to the hotel. All in all an easy process getting from the airport, I believe the hotel confirmation acts as a tram ticket and they provide a pass for the trams and buses which is a great way to get around. I tended to walk around as the local sights are within walking distance but is nice to have the option.||Hotel staff spoke excellent English and were incredibly helpful, I didn't try breakfast or dinner there but there is a supermarket next door and other restaurants nearby for food if you are room only and don't want to eat in the hotel. Staff were obliging with giving out directions and recommending trips etc. which was brilliant.||Only small thing I found odd was there seemed to be no double lock feature on the door which I found strange, otherwise the hotel room was well appointed with in room safe, good choice of UK TV channels and nice toiletries. Room was impeccably clean and the balcony was great even though it was cold, it was nice to...
