Dismal. The outside is faded, neglected. The entrance looks quite good, but that's all there is that looks good. ||Poorly organised. No word of welcome. A lot of confusion about my booking. Virtually no English-speaking staff. Nobody in any kind of uniform - it all looked as if they had just breezed in from anywhere, walking round in anoraks, carrying babies.... Shamefully sloppy.||The room (515) was shabby, and the wiring alarmingly dangerous. (There was a new-ish TV, though). The bathroom was unpleasant (leaky hand basin), stained tiles, rotted woodwork, antiquated toilet.||The balcony hadn't been cleaned for years.||The "spa" area was "closed for cleaning" in the mornings, we were told. This never featured in any details of the "hotel". I complained, and after some hesitation, a young man, who said he was "an employee", procured some vouchers for the morning, for a spa elsewhere in the town. In the evening, we tried the Champagne Hotel spa in the basement. It was jaded, tired, and the lockers were rusty. An unwelcoming feel. What's more, it didn't look as if it had just been cleaned. There were only four other guests there.||The breakfast arrangements were simply a disaster. We had been offered a choice of vouchers for a Mos Burger (ehh? a Japanese burger chain??) or a Chinese buffet. We opted for the buffet. We sat in a dining-room like a railway platform, full of packing cases, junk and children's toys - utterly untidy. The breakfast itself was awful. The "coffee" was already mixed with milk and sugar (UGH!!) the food was in (only two) bains-maries that were cold (not lit). The range of food was sparse.||... and we were going to stay at this place on New Year's Eve? Oh no!||How on earth other reviewers for a hotel booking agency gave "Champagne Hotel" a 3.6 grade out of 5 I have no idea. That agency have lost a lot of credibility with me. If there were a way for me to get my money back, I would try.||||The best that happened was that after one night and my complaining bitterly, a man (might have been the manager - he never even introduced himself) arranged for us to transfer to a wonderful 4-star place not far away in Jiaoxi: the Guan Xiang Century, where we were warmly welcomed, given excellent service, and very well cared for by the Director, Ms. Chen (who speaks excellent English, as do the rest of the staff).||||Stay away from the Champagne Hotel - it's a dump. This place should...
Read moreThis hotel was probably one of the best about 15-20 years ago.||We had booked through booking.com for one night to enjoy some hot spring. The room we were given (517) was spacious, relatively clean, with a new TV, bed was very hard, pillows were soft and comfortable, balcony overlooked the town itself (but it probably hasn't been cleaned in ages), there was a kettle (with instant coffee/tea available) and a mini fridge. The toilets were old but clean. As we have an 18 month old with us, we requested for a cot, which was chargeable at NTD250. The cot came with a comfortable mattress, a comforter and a baby pillow.||We were told that they have a hot spring pool at the basement but we opted to pay for a private bath with another bathhouse anyway so we didn't check out the hotel's pool. ||The service was warm and hospitable. My husband spoke mandarin so we had very little problems with communications. ||Cons: We woke up to someone entering our room the next morning at 8. It was housekeeping, thinking we had checked out. Apparently there was some miscommunication on their end. It happened again at about 9.30am. My husband went to inform the front desk and they were very apologetic. Just remember to always lock your doors from the inside (there is another lock on top of the door knob)!||Overall it was a...
Read moreThis hotel is old and tired looking from the exterior. But don't let it fool you. The room is nice and of great value. ||If you can, book the 'Double Room' and you would have a nice balcony facing the city. Balcony is not too clean; you can bring one of the chairs out from your room to enjoy the views with a coffee or beer. ||Bed is hard but still comfortable. Room is very spacious, and of acceptable cleanliness. Room comes with fridge, complimentary water, instant coffee, tea bags and all toiletries you need (which is great) ||The breakfast is acceptable as I'm comfortable with Asian fare. Porridge and various condiments, braised meat rice, soya bean drink, coffee with milk (not nice!) etc provided. For the rate I pay, (extra USD2±) for breakfast, I wouldn't complaint. Eat elsewhere if you like something better. ||Front desk reception is sticky about certain things thought. A travel adapter required a NTD500 deposit and any extension to check out is chargeable. ||Would still recommend this 2-3 star hotel if it's something of your budget. A balcony at this price is hard to come by. Hotel is also rather close to train station, slightly further to the bus station. I have no problems dragging my luggage to either...
