Family of 5 for tourism, 2 suites: A great hotel for those who are jet-lagged as there is food available 24/7. Breakfast buffet is also included, so we weren't expecting much, but the quality rivals and even exceeds most 5-star hotel buffets in Taiwan. We were there 5 nights and the variety was surprising daily.
Nice rooms, great bathtub. Layout was a little different from the picture for suites as the bathroom sink was right at the room entrance and not enclosed as part of the bathroom which was a bit strange and inconvenient. The difference with what's pictured may mean that there are different layouts available, but we didn't ask as we wanted our 2 rooms to be close, and they were on consecutive floors right next to the stairs which was already working well for us. Minor complaint would be that the lighting in the bathroom could be better positioned. The overall room theme is dark which makes this essential particularly for women in the morning (according to my wife).
Service is all-around wonderful, on-par with any good establishments in Taiwan. Laundry facility is free and spacious. Only 2 washers and 2 dryers available but the hotel isn't large and no one else was using them when we were there. Wish the gym could be larger with more equipment and had earlier hours (9A-10P), but what's available seems on par with most hotels of this size. Parking is less than a minute walk away and small lot (8-10 spaces which they stretch to ~14) but the staff manages it well.
We had a rental car, but we did walk to both the subway and light-rail stations which are about 5-7 minute walk, the light-rail station being at the very western end of Love Pier. There's a very expensive department store next store with upscale dining options, but also a nice and more price-friendly one near the subway station with plenty of food options.
In summary this is not only a great hidden gem of a hotel in Kaohsiung, it is a great hotel for jet-lagged travelers. I get the sense that occupants are mostly locals, perhaps those on business. It was not crowded when we were there which was nice, but at the same time I hope it will continue to do well and stay...
Read moreThis is Farley new hotel. We stayed at this hotel for 8 nights. Pros: We enjoyed all the new amenities this hotel offered such as very comfortable bed (we almost don’t want to get out of the bed every morning) and the sheets were soft and comfy. The service was so nice we appreciate the hotel managers welcome letter on the desk after we checked in. The espresso machine was the jackpot because I drink coffee every morning, having it right in my room is a plus! The tub probably should be the highlight because it lights up and you can choose the setting to change the color even make it blow bubbles like a mini hot tub!! You also have the Japanese toilet which heats the seats and do all the cool stuffs. We also loved the complimentary breakfast and it’s selections and complimentary snacks as well, and the gym and washing machine on the roof level.
Cons: there is only a few things that I personally hope they could improve on. The vouchers requirement was a little bit annoying because without vouchers you can not eat the breakfast even though you have the hotel keys and you stayed there for 8 nights. It feels like too many cards to carry because vouchers and parking and room key are all separated, so you ended up having to carry three cards if you go down to eat and plan to leave after. The system is a bit silly to be honest. If you come on weekend, expect this hotel to filled up with lots of customers(it can get crowded during breakfast time). They don’t have swimming pool which is sad because we paid $186 per night and kaohsiung is really hot. It would be nice if they do have one, but I get it for the lack of space in the city, sometimes you have...
Read moreThis is such an excellent hotel that we stay here whenever we’re in Kaohsiung!
Great location, close to Love River, good food, ferry to Cijin Island, and MRT stations.
The rooms are always nice and clean, with functional Toto toilets.
Amazing service! The staff is always friendly and super helpful. We cycled here from Tainan and they were nice enough to let us park our bicycles in their warehouse! Sometimes we stay in our room until 2pm and they still come in to clean and refill toiletries when we’re away. So yes we very much enjoy every stay at Starhaus!
We love the 24hr snack bar as well. Everything tastes good there, our favs are their steamed eggs...
