If I could give a 0 zero star, I would give them. The location is awful, de beach is very close, but it's not a beach. It's a fishing port. It's also VERY DIRTY, smelly and there are so much rubbish. We had to walk 30 minutes in the sand to reach a nice part of Nungwi. The view from the room is very bad. A rusty washing machine can be seen on one side, and on the other side is the laundry room, from which they can easily see into the room. The wall is very close to the building, so no air get into the room. The fan in the room had a European plug, for which we had a hard time getting a converter from the staff. Unfortunately, this could not work continuously either because there was only one outlet in the room. Either we were charging our phones or devices, or the fan was working. And we think the fan on the ceiling did not receive power properly. It went very slowly, so the stagnant air in the room was unbearable. The only outlet that was there was also sparking. The electricity also went out in the evening, so the situation was suffocating. There was no refrigerator in the room, so we couldn't have cold drinks in the heat. What we bought cold also warmed up very quickly. The pin came out of place. The shower head was placed above the toilet, which is not very hygienic. What we flushed down the toilet during the shower, we hung around in that water. We have booked 3 accommodation in Zanzibar, but we have not experienced anything like this. We booked 10 nights at this accommodation, but on the first night all four of us were busy trying to find another accommodation on the verge of tears. Unfortunately, we couldn't spend more than one day there. The breakfast the next day wasn't very good either, but we couldn't deal with that anymore. We have informed the accommodation that we are leaving the accommodation due to the previously mentioned problems. We asked for compensation. We didn't ask for all the nights to be refunded, but we would have been happy with half of them. Unfortunately, we could not coordinate with the staff, so we got the phone number of the owner. Since he already knew about this problem, he did not answer the phone for us. So we could only communicate in the form of messages. I would like to add that if the owner had been local and not European, he would have been much nicer. He refused to understand our problem, provided a free transfer to the other hotel, which is not too much money on the island. This is how we spent a day at the hotel, it was a real NIGHTMARE. Thank God we found an available accommodation that was at a good price. This was in Jambiani at The New Blue Waves Hotel. I managed to forget this terrible day. Unfortunately, I forgot to take more pictures, and it wasn't taken on the beach either. But I'm sure I wouldn't recommend this place to my...
Read moreI opted for 2/5 despite thinking a 1 might be more appropriate. But I wanted to make this as balanced and fair a review as possible.|But in brief I recommend you do not choose this place!!!! |It's cheap, but there's better value options in the area. |The room has an adequate bed, but the fans have a minimal effect (at best). It's painfully hot in there and lends to a poor sleep. |The drinking water is of a very poor quality, tasting quite unpleasant. We never experienced the same anywhere else in Zanzibar. |The room included breakfast but based upon the general standard within the place I opted against trying it. |The WiFi internet was almost non existent, but the staff who sit outside seem to be quite able to stream internet and TV etc. This is the location they keep the router. They could move it to a place within the accommodation so that the paying customers (or install a booster) but they opt to serve the person on reception who does nothing other than glare at their mobile phone. We got a better welcome from the cat and dog. ||My biggest criticsm is against the owner/manager. This is because all of the issuess I've mentioned could be easily sorted if he bothered to consider his paying customers. But sadly that is a miss and explains the failings witij the place. |The guy is rude, patronising and not helpful in anyway. This was the only poor experience we had from anybody in Zanzibar so was even more disappointing. If you're going to stay, have dollars at hand. He tried the ages old trick of not having a card reader. He naturally accepts cash, but if you pay in Tanzania Schilling he uses a conversion at a rate he makes up. |Hey, it's not fortunes, but it's the attitude from him that really leaves a bitter taste. |As I say I've tried to be as balanced as possible but do...
Read more8 nights at the Lighthouse Guesthouse was a dream honeymoon. Originally, we were worried that our budget would not be enough for much of a honeymoon, and we were just hoping to find a place- any place- somewhere in Zanzibar. The Lighthouse Guesthouse exceeded our expectations by far. For $40 per night, we were given a simple, charming room with a large, comfortable bed... lovely breakfast every morning, including fresh mangoes, pineapples, and passion fruit, and there was always more... maybe crepes, maybe hashbrowns, maybe eggs and toast. The beach is 50 m away... a 2-minute walk at most. We quickly made friends with the friendly hotel staff who were always around... they helped us with everything from getting a Zanzibar SIM card to making off-menu items for us per special request. It really could not have been more perfect, or a...
