Orchid Sheraton hotel is becoming a den of thieves.
In the service industry, where people are treated like property, Sheraton stands out as a hotel where the workers themselves seem abnormal and unethical.
The trust in Marriott and the image of Bangkok seem tarnished and forsaken.
Thailand's national sentiment, which values conscience and law, feels betrayed.
The facade of smiles worn by the thief working in the hotel is eventually exposed, thanks to Bangkok's unique character and the nature of the hotel service business.
The hotel is covering up the fact that their staff stole from customers.
They should take a hard look in the mirror.
It's incredibly uncivilized and absurd.
Next time, I'll have no choice but to involve the police and pursue legal action against them.
No mercy, no dialogue.
Let's assume and acknowledge that human nature can sometimes be uncontrollable.
In that case, the hotel should have a systematic and physical manual for dealing with theft or loss.
They should be able to anticipate and address potential issues between guests and the hotel, whether intentional or not.
Prevention would then naturally follow, and it shouldn't be too costly to implement.
Perhaps this would also reduce future social costs.
It would enhance the company's image and intangible value.
Actions speak louder than words, and it's important to recognize that.
I hope such incidents won't occur statistically in the future.
What's already happened cannot be hidden or erased.
Deceiving someone's conscience while smiling on the outside can cause serious harm.
Thanks to them, I'm experiencing something I shouldn't have to.
I don't think I've ever encountered a situation like this at this stage in my life.
I planned my hotel stay and travel months in advance, with the intention of being with Marriott from start to finish.
I trusted Marriott so much and had high expectations, especially since this was my first overseas trip after achieving platinum status.
However, I haven't benefited much from it due to the lack of accommodation records.
Nevertheless, experiencing various hotels, despite the challenges, was enriching.
It was comforting to know that hotel issues could be resolved through the hotel's response, advice from the bonvoy Facebook Marriott chatting service team, and the efforts of guests working together.
But by the time we found the lost item, my trip had already been ruined, and Sheraton's response was incredibly disappointing.
Although we retrieved the item, there was no genuine apology or expression of regret from the hotel.
They just insisted that everything was fine, as if they were doing us a favor.
It felt like the hotel was trying to find faults with us, poor guests, over the course of seven days.
After desperately searching for the item, the hotel simply said, "We're pleased you came to retrieve the item you left at the concierge."
That was it.
While it may not be necessary to disclose every detail about the hotel to outsiders, it's disheartening to hear them express pleasure in us wasting more than seven days of our holiday energy just to retrieve our belongings.
The empty feeling we had when we desperately shouted about the items we left behind in the room upon departure was replayed when we returned to the concierge after seven days to retrieve our belongings.
On the other hand, I have decided not to waste much time and expectation on Bangkok bonvoy's outwardly worded words.
Now, even after a year or ten, I fear Sheraton's reputation will remain tarnished...
Read moreThis is a mixed-bag-quality hotel. Prior to booking, I did read some negative reviews of the Royal Orchid Sheraton. However, it also had an overwhelming positive reviews and reviews are usually subjective opinions. Unfortunately, I happen to share similar experiences to some of the negative reviews instead of the positive ones.
On one hand, it is a great resort due to the two pools and good view. On the other hand, it lacks the little details that makes a Sheraton, a Sheraton -- especially if one boasts "luxury" on their website's description.
Let's start with the good - which are mostly the lobby and amenities: Despite being rather dated, the general lobby area is well-maintained. It's like stepping into a time capsule of a luxury hotel of the past, so there's that charm to it. The pools are great. There's a resort-style pool with a bar in one section and a lap pool overlooking the river on another section A free boat shuttle service to Icon Siam running at a good frequency. Good selection of dining options in the hotel Decent option for room service
Now, the rather poor aspects - or at least by Bonvoy/Sheraton standards: The man at the reception was rather stand-offish. From my experience at other Bonvoys hotels, you are typically shown or directed to a waiting area - sometimes a welcome drink - if your room isn't ready. Instead, we were just instructed to return in half an hour and nothing else.
When you step out of the lift and into the corridor of the room floors, you are greeted by this musky smell; which is likely from the old carpetry. I'm sure the cleaning staff does their best with what they have but old is old when it comes to carpets in a humid climate.
The smell was also present in the first room we checked into. We had to wait half an hour for our room, so there's some expectation that it would at least feel fresh and clean. Some of the light fixtures were not working and when we tried to adjust the temperature, the entire control panel fell out. This can happen with old buildings but after affixing the control panel, the buttons just didn't work and stayed at 24 degrees.
The second room was properly tidied with no musky smell and working fixtures. However, it isn't till much later that we discover that a couple of the power points (next to the bed and by the table) were not working. We also suspect that the exhaust fan in the bathroom wasn't working properly either.
There were streaks on the cupboard doors and some of the drawers were not aligned well.
Food trays for room service that were left outside were not collected in a timely manner (evening till next evening)
These are definitely little things that we would ignore had we booked a lower-end boutique hotel. However the little things are what makes a guest book at a Bonvoy hotel.
I didn't hate my stay nor was it all bad -perhaps it is the luck of the draw that I had a negative experience with the rooms.
Though, apart from the river view - Bangkok has no shortage of hotels with newer rooms and great service that would match the price point (or lower, in fact) of the Royal Orchid Sheraton.
And if you want the river view - there is the Shangri-La and the older Mandarin...
Read more🌟 Royal Orchid Sheraton Riverside Hotel Bangkok – Detailed Review
I recently stayed at the Royal Orchid Sheraton in Bangkok, and I can confidently say it exceeded all my expectations in every possible way. From the moment I arrived until the time I checked out, every part of my experience was smooth, elegant, and memorable.
🛏️ Room & Comfort
I stayed in a Deluxe Riverview Room, and the view of the Chao Phraya River was absolutely breathtaking — especially at sunrise and sunset. The room was spacious, with a comfortable bed, plush pillows, and high-quality linens. The marble bathroom was modern and spotless, equipped with premium Sheraton amenities. Every detail in the room felt curated to enhance comfort and relaxation.
🏞️ Location & Accessibility
The location is simply unbeatable. It’s nestled right on the riverside and offers a private boat service to ICONSIAM and BTS Saphan Taksin, making it very convenient to explore Bangkok. Even though it’s in the heart of the city, it feels quiet and secluded — a perfect riverside escape.
🍽️ Dining & Breakfast
The breakfast buffet at Feast was superb — a great mix of Western and Asian options, fresh tropical fruits, pastries, and live cooking stations. I also dined at Giorgio’s Italian Restaurant, which offered delicious dishes with a romantic riverside setting. The Siam Yacht Club bar is a lovely spot to unwind in the evening with cocktails and live music.
🏊 Facilities & Amenities
There are two swimming pools — one by the river and another surrounded by lush greenery, giving a resort-like atmosphere. The fitness center is open 24 hours and is well-equipped with modern machines and free weights. The spa experience at Mandara was deeply relaxing, with expert therapists and serene ambiance.
🧑🤝🧑 Staff & Service
Every staff member I interacted with was warm, professional, and genuinely eager to help. From the concierge to the housekeeping team, everyone went out of their way to make me feel welcome. Check-in was fast and efficient, and I appreciated the little touches like welcome drinks and turn-down service.
🏛️ Events & Atmosphere
The hotel is also well-equipped for events and weddings. During my stay, I saw a beautiful riverside wedding being set up. Their ballroom with a giant LED wall looked state-of-the-art and perfect for large-scale functions.
📝 Final Thoughts
Overall, Royal Orchid Sheraton offers the perfect balance between luxury and authentic Thai hospitality. The riverfront location, incredible views, refined service, and top-tier facilities make it one of the best 5-star hotels in Bangkok. Whether you’re visiting for leisure, business, or a special occasion, I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this hotel.
