ThongRan’s House is a truly exceptional guesthouse and one that I would very highly recommend. It is perfectly located in the characterful Chiang Mai Old City. It is extremely well managed thanks to the fabulous English speaking owner Miss KiBB and a small team, who are all meticulous and conscientious in their service. It is both homely and welcoming and is the perfect example of how a guesthouse should be run. It is without question one of the best I have had the privilege to stay in.||Situated down a peaceful residential lane, look for the fabulous ThongRan’s House mural, there is no traffic noise or other disturbance. Housekeeping is absolutely meticulous and the immaculate well-appointed and maintained rooms include complimentary glass bottled water, coffee and snacks, all replenished daily.||WiFi is excellent as is an efficient laundry service. Room rate includes a delicious substantial breakfast (served from 7-10am) that you select from a wide choice of options, both Thai and western. I can highly recommend the fresh fruit (with different fruits each day) and yoghurt muesli with honey. Breakfast was taken outside on a shared balcony and each morning as I ate I would enjoy the sunrise over a nearby Wat.||All communication before and during my stay was prompt, helpful and attentive. Nothing was ever too much trouble for the wonderful Miss KiBB, her kind-hearted family and the delightful and extremely hardworking Miss Saeg who prepared and served breakfast each morning with so much care and attention to detail.||I used ThongRan’s House as a base for exploring the wider region and it was always a pleasure to return. For me it was a ‘home from home’ and I cannot recommend ThongRan’s House highly enough. It is a small guesthouse so I would advise booking early to avoid disappointment. They have an excellent informative website.||So THANK YOU so much to everyone at ThongRan’s House for making my stay so enjoyable, comfortable and memorable. Everything was perfect and I could not have asked for more. Thank you! I look forward to my next stay...
Read moreI wish I knew about Thongran's House earlier. I've spent 2 weeks in Chiang Mai exploring different neighbourhoods, and Thongran was the 4th and last hotel in our CM journey - however it's the only hotel I will come back to when I return to Chiang Mai in later years. If you want to feel like you're staying in a local home with friendly Thai hospitality as if you were long time friends/family - then Thongrans is for you. I was initially attracted to the cute mural artwork in the entrance alley which pays homage to Kibby's (owner) grandparents who originally owned this land. Kibby goes above and beyond to make your stay and trip to Chiang Mai as easy as possible - she gives you her Whatsapp number for 24/7 contact, she even took us to the airport at departure as we stayed minimum nights. There is a cat Marley and dog Alice on the property which makes the guesthouse stay feel more homely. The rooms were clean, comfortable, powerful air conditioning, good hot water system and shower water pressure (don't expect polished, architect designed hotel rooms that look identical, lack warmth and personality - this is a family business built with love from a long time CM local) and when we reported something broken, it was repaired same day for us. The extra 85BHT for breakfast (both Thai and Western options available) was worth it (tip: get your Dirty Latte coffee from Pegasus next alley down and smoothies from Mirandas across the road). Eating on their balcony garden terrace at sunrise, listening to the morning temple and the start of school sounds added to the local stay experience. Their free bike rentals (with basket + front and rear lights) made exploring the old city so much easier than using Anywheel where you have to find designated parking spots and ride time restrictions. Wifi speed was fast so I was able to get some remote work done on their balcony terrace before breakfast was served. I can't wait to come back to stay at Thongran and see Kibby again. I will be telling all my friends and family to come here when they...
Read moreWe had a fantastic stay at ThongRan's House!! This small hotel is clean, cozy, and intimate with extremely professional and helpful staff. KiBB was an incredible host answering all of our questions and helping us navigate Chiang Mai during our week-long stay. You cannot beat the location right in the heart of the Old City, providing easy access to all the city has to offer! We had no issues with noise and slept well in a comfortable bed. Each day when we returned to our room everything was cleaned and organized for us, a level of service that exceeded our experiences in other, more expensive hotels around the world. If you are looking for a place to stay in Chiang Mai that has both character and comfort, look no further.
In addition to the quality of this establishment, I must also share our very special experience at ThongRan's House: getting engaged! From our home in the US, I got in touch with KiBB and coordinated a surprise proposal for my now fiancee. KiBB and I talked over email over the course of a couple of months as I shared ideas about how I wanted the surprise to go. Once we were in Chiang Mai, KiBB continued to secretly coordinate with me to make sure everything went according to plan. When it came to the night of the surprise, KiBB and her friends did an absolutely incredible job!! The set-up on the balcony was gorgeous and resulted in a (successful) proposal that exceeded my fiancee's...
