Coral Inn Karon Phuket — Hotel in Karon

Don't be fooled by the proudly erect bed-top birds sculpted from brown towels in the Booking.com photos of this Hotel, the reality is soberingly different. The location is perhaps the worst attribute, being smack on a roundabout which spins ALL the traffic coming and going into & out of Karon Beach, throughout the night. At around 6 a.m, you'll begin to hear lorries and coaches shift gear and rev as they negotiate the incline of the roundabout. At night, it'll be the open red taxis with ghetto blasting music booming out of their backsides, up until around 2.a.m. The Hotel is built on a seriously unsuitable piece of real estate, and is badly neglected. The windows are NOT double glazed, so you get the traffic noise unfiltered; add to that the rackety air-con system and refrigerator, and you'll be in for a restless night. The curtains are paper thin, so the 10KMegaWatt street lamps just outside, flood the room with nocturnal daylight. A strong smell of sewage from the bathroom, two pairs of filthy flip flops supplied apparently for guests use, overall shabby sadness, and a breakfast that other guests also left on the plate. We suffered one night only, and left. Message to the owners: There is so much competition in Karon and Kata, that you NEED TO INVEST IN MINIMAL COMFORTS for guests to feel happy. The hotel itself is clean and nicely decorated. But one thing I learned from my visit to Phuket is not to book a hotel unless it is in Patong Beach. But this is not in Patong. This is in Karon Beach. So be aware of this. They rarely opened the AC in the lobby. It was very hot for me each time to enter the hotel. To walk through the un-airconditioned lobby, and then climb the un-airconditioned stairs (they don’t have elevators), and then walk in the hot aisle. The room itself is air conditioned and nicely decorated. I like their bathroom and how they made bird shapes from towel. If you have heavy luggage, good luck climbing the stairs with no elevators. At least have one of the staff carry it for you. And expect not to find a receptionist at the front desk because they might be serving a customer in the restaurant. I think they have an employee shortage or they are following an economic policy which I can tell by not opening ACs. Also, there was no breakfast included.
