SOUL Vegan Cafe & Restaurant Phuket — Restaurant in Karon

We were excited to try this place. We ordered a bowl of oatmeal, 2 buckwheat pancakes and some coffee. The porridge arrived first and had no issues. However, the pancakes took 30 mins. First thought was ok they use frozen berries only… When we took our first bites, the pancakes tasted very sour (both plates) We gave it another bite after spitting out the first and it definitely didn’t taste normal at all…

We called over the waitress and asked how long ago they had made the batter. She said “oh not that long. Just yesterday” … I thought a breakfast place like this is supposed to make the batter fresh daily?

They offered for us to order something else but we were over it. They said they won’t charge us for any of the other stuff, but doesn’t change the fact that they served us fermented pancakes… Needless to say, we will never return here.

————————— Update: To the owner’s response, using yesterday’s batter is no “mistake” - that was deliberate. Also we already waited 30 mins for rotten pancakes. We weren’t about to stick around another 30 mins for god knows what we will get. Respond with more...

Unfortunately we did not have such a good experience. Seeing the reviews about the gluten free protocols and knowledge we went in with full confidence and unfortunately my partner got glutened... We ordered something that wasn't marked gluten free, we had to ask for it specifically, which we didn't realize but we also mentioned my partner was celiac when ordering, and the server did not flag there might be an issue. They brought the food, so we checked again that everything was GF and told us the bread wasn't gluten free. It wasn't ideal but we could live with that. After my partner started eating, a few bites in, they came back again to let us know more of the items on the plate were not GF. Unfortunately too late... There are a lot of gluten free options but one must remain vigilent. Staff not sufficiently trained on the matter which put a real damper on the experience. They offered some gluten free toast afterwards as an apology which was nice but hardly helpful when...
