I wanted to love this place because from the photos - it looks amazing! There are really nice pros but not enough for me to pay the rather expensive room rate.PRO- stunning building, vivid colour- not faded at all so it stands out in the neighborhood!THE roof is AMAZING! large lounge space fabulous cross breeze. ( rainy season so bar was closed but guests were still allowed to use the space)This place would make an excellent spot for an event- (just make sure you stay on the 4th or 5th floor so you can walk up to the roof because the elevator can comfortably hold 2 people)The pottery classes, board games, and lobby space are definite winners! The jungle room exactly as pictured with strong water pressure in the shower and AC works great. There are cool coloured lighting options in the bedroom The outdoor tub is much bigger than it looks- can fit three people easily! The pool sits deeper into the balcony so the view from inside the pool gives you city nightlife. The bed and pillows are very comfortable and there are 3 English movie channels.NOT FOR MEFig Lobby doesn't have a pool. You have to walk from their back parking lot, pass the dumpsters, through an alley to the back of the building, in the back of Fig Lobby to use the pool.Bit disappointed with the abundance of fake plants in the jungle room- not even the one on the balcony was real.It is not a real kitchenette because there is no sink, no utensils, no plates, or a plain ol' hot water kettle. There is a coffee machine and two ridiculously small coffee mugs. The kitchen area shelves are completely empty making them useless in the space. There is no microwave and the fridge space is taken up by the mini bar items. Water provided are refilled glass bottles with new capsThere is no door for the actual toilet area which wouldn't matter if you are alone but offers no privacy if you are with others. The bar area faces away from the TV so you can't sit there to eat and watch TV. The table in front of the TV is a bit low to comfortably eat from. They definitely need a side table for the living room and the outdoor tub area. It's odd that you can't access the outdoor tub from the bathroom. Since the tub is so huge, it does take a rather long time to fill up. There are extra towels in the tub area but the tub could use some sort of neck support, a floating table, etcYou can't just walk onto the balcony - you have to step over a ledge and down onto the balcony. The view from the balcony is unimpressive and you are close enough to have conversations with people on the balcony in the next building. There are sliding doors between each area, however none of them lock. There is a Rotary styled phone by the bed which is too bulky and awkwardly placed. What tipped the scale for me was the room darkening curtains in the bedroom. the Transparent glass in bathroom door beams with light, contradicting the purpose of room darkening curtains.Individually these complaints are not deal breakers but each time I found an unfortunate feature, the oversll satisfaction of the place diminished. I would rate...
Read moreOkay, this hotel is such a vibe! Well from the outside, it may look like a circus tent. It actually is really artistic, edgy and cool inside.
There is so much thought, and effort that has gone into creating the atmosphere at fig lobby.
The positives: it’s so cool. It has an ayurveda spa, cute ceramics workshop, a lovely restaurant and nice rooftop bar.
Our room: The red room! Was epic in all matters of speaking. I’m not sure words can describe how great this room was the bed, the view, the insanely big bathroom and the private bar were wonderful.
The breakfast included in the room rates is a set option where you pick from an à la carte, breakfast menu and get a coffee and juice included to the value of 500 Baht. While the breakfast we had was insanely good. The food at the hotel was extremely expensive even for Thai hotel standards. I found it difficult to order anything to just chill at the bar with a drink and snack, the snack menu is very limited not many options.
And that price burns a little bit more when there are five wait staff in an empty restaurant just standing around and it still takes over half an hour for you to get your drinks.
The negatives:
We stayed over New Year’s knowing we would be paying an inflated price per night over the holidays. I still felt there were some things missing from our room like robes, standard kettle coffee, tea station, bath mats etc. there is a coffee machine in the room which I know is great but I would not be drinking the hot water out of that machine. I couldn’t just make a simple cup of tea.
The pool: Bangkok in December is almost unbearably hot and while this hotel contracts the pool services from another hotel down the street, I simply feel that there is so much space in this hotel to put a pool. I don’t understand why. If it structurally sound, why there is not a pool on the rooftop. It is so big and has so much unused space it would make such a good rooftop pool and if it isn’t sound, the back car park sectioned and screened off would also make a great area for a pool.
The only thing missing from the hotel is a pool and it’s very obviously missing.
The area. Not negative just an explanation. The hotel is located in Khlong toei, which is a slum. We loved it, the locals were so lovely and generous, their own fire works on New Year’s Eve were something to relish. Just take caution when going to market we found the sites and smells a little confronting, mainly the live animals in baskets. It is well located to public transport and a great view of the city skyline.
Also LOVE. The complimentary...
Read moreHad a relatively good stay at this hotel. Overall would come back again.
Good Shower’s default temperature was warm and water got hot really fast. Absolutely loved this. Friendly and welcoming staff. They were always smiling and acknowledged my presence. Aesthetic. Quirky and fun design overall. Very refreshing. Quiet location away from the hustle and bustle of city life. Can be a bane for some but i did enjoy being away from the busy bangkok streets. It is still quite accessible from the train station if you don’t mind walking. Soaking in the culture. It is fronted by a residential area where food vendors hawk in front of their houses. Khlong Toei market is nearby as well. 7-11 a walking distance away. Huge toilet.
Can be improved Like many have mentioned, the soundproofing is bad for rooms facing the road. Stayed on the highest floor but was kept awake when the residents spoke loudly throughout the night. Would suggest to bring earplugs. Behind the houses are a canal and lots of trash can be seen. There was a strong drainage smell if you left you balcony doors opened or if you stepped out. Service was extremely slow on the rooftop even when i was the only or second guest at the time. Had to wait during checkout as the rooms had to be checked. Comfortable furniture Dustbin at the end of the corridor (his is hard to find these days)
Went to have breakfast fully aware that breakfast was not included in my stay. The staff asked if my stay included the breakfast, i said no and acknowledged that it wasn’t included. I would still like to have the breakfast. Gave my room number.
The same staff came back to ask for my room number.
Same staff came to ask if my stay included breakfast. I said no.
Afterwhich, another staff came to tell me that breakfast wasn’t included. I had to tell them that i am aware and i will be paying for the breakfast.
These numerous interruptions happened while i was trying to have my meal in peace. I believe that better understanding if a guest would be paying or not, can be established at the beginning, instead of disrupting the experience multiple times.
Same staff (wearing glasses) who last spoke to me at the restaurant checked me out of my room. I would say her service is great.
Would recommend getting a transfer to the airport in advanced as i had difficulty getting grab. No issues with grab when i wasn’t heading to the airport.
tl;dr Bring earplugs. Amazing shower. Room is spacious (booked the largest room. Friendly staff. Able to be in touch with local life....
