AVOID THIS! We booked a stay at Lanta Sand Resort & Spa in December, but it turned out to be totally disappointment. The room had a strong sewage smell, and when we asked for a different room, we discovered clear signs of bedbugs on the mattress, like a lot of bedbug droppings. We reported the issue to the reception, but they had trouble fully understanding the problem. They changed the mattress, but that clearly doesn't solve the problem. We were told there were no other available rooms, but we could pay extra to upgrade to a villa. It seemed unbelievable that we had to pay more just to avoid the bedbug-infested room, but we decided it was the easiest solution at that point. We checked two different villas. The first one also had signs of bedbugs (small black dots on the mattress). We chose the second villa, but upon closer inspection, we found shells under the mattress that matched the development stage of bedbugs. We concluded it wasn't safe to stay in the room, so we decided to move to another hotel at 10 in the evening. The reception still didn't seem to understand our problem, and we were told to ask about compensation the next day. When we spoke to the hotel manager, he denied the presence of bedbugs and couldn't explain the marks/shells on the mattresses. He also said they wouldn't give us a refund. Overall, our experience was disappointing and we lost our money, it doesn't make sense to stay in a hotel where bedbugs are found in multiple rooms, and the issue isn't taken seriously. Additionally, the rooms looked old and worn, contrary to the pictures. Pictures on TripAdvisor also showed live bedbugs in the rooms, confirming the issue is not isolated.

“Decent hotel along Long Beach” The wife and I stayed here for 3 nights/4 days during our stay in Ko Lanta. The hotel picked us up upon arrival at the pier for no charge, but wanted 80 baht/person to take us there upon leaving....ummm ok. And BTW: when you arrive at the pier you have to pay 10 baht/person for a “cleaning fee”...ummm ok again. The staff is super friendly, however only a few Of them spoke english well enough to actually understand you. We rented a motorbike from the hotel (300 baht/24 hrs), which made it easy (you have to fill it up with gas yourself). The beach was amazing, with the sun setting right in front of the hotel. You have reserve the lounge chairs early in the morning if you want one (the wife woke up at 6am to do so). MOST IMPORTANTLY, apparently its acceptable for someone to take your RESERVED spot (had towels and our bags on the chairs) if you haven’t been there for a few hours (went to go explore the island). AND the staff won’t do/say anything...blank stare like they didn’t understand english. The room was a decent size, larger than usual. Definitely needs updating though. We tried the breakfast buffet a couple of times (places around there weren’t open even though the hours say 24hrs). The breakfast buffet food is not kept hot. The omelettes were fantastic though! We also tried out the spa. Both of us had the 1 hr thai massage and 1 hr foot massage, which were wonderful! The best thing about this hotel is the location and the beach. We explored the whole island and while other beaches were less crowded, long beach was best for swimming/lounging.

We stayed here for four days as a couple. The hotel is pretty big and has 4 pools. You have different kinds of accommodation. You can choose a small villa or rooms with a balcony or even rooms that are connected to the pools. There are four pools, a small fitness room and there’s also a spa. The hotel has a bar and restaurant on the beach. If you’re in need of a relax vacation, then I would recommend this hotel. The pools are clean (we went in september so the hotel was not that busy due to it being rain season). Overall the hotel is pretty well taken care of and the employees are very nice. The rooms have airco, a mini fridge and they are quite big. The only remark I have is that the shower is a bit unpractical. It’s a rainshower so you cannot take it off and the shower seems quite old. Other than that we were satisfied with the hotel. There are a couple of great restaurants within a 20 minutes walk, so you can easily go out and do something if you do not wish to stay at the hotel or want a change of scenery. Be aware, sometimes the power tends to go out but the employees fix this within a couple of minutes. The power dies about 1 time a day.

We stayed at Lanta Sand for 1 week in November 2023. Check in was fast and we got bungalow A009. The hotel grounds were well kept and there was a pool near the reception, a small gym and spa in the middle and restaurant basically on the beach.

The bungalow had two separate units and we got room A009. The room was quite big and included a large bed, a sofa/additional bed, a small fridge, a desk, flat screen TV on the wall and wardrobe with a small safe. The mattress was on top of a larger frame and hence there was a ledge around the bed. The TV had good options but it did not seem like it was cleaned properly (there was something smeared on the screen).

The bathroom was big but the layout was not optimal. The sink was right inside the door, there was a shower corner and a toilet of course. The outside terrace included another shower and a plunge pool. The shower inside had very variable water pressure and the water temperature also kept fluctuating. The drain was not great and hence the shower turned into a foot bath. The shower outside was even worse with almost no water and almost no hot water. The shampoo and shower gel products did not feel like premium products.

The breakfast was served at the restaurant on the beach. There was a good selection of fruit, some Asian warm dishes, an egg station (that also made pancakes and waffles), some bread, salad etc. For me it was perfect as I enjoy having an omelet and some fruit for breakfast. But the coffee machine was horrible and did not produce very good coffee.

The beach area also included sunbeds, direct access on the beach, a beach bar – so a perfect place to hang out to watch the sunset. The beach was beautiful and it was great to be able to just walk for a few seconds to jump into the sea. We did not use the pool at the hotel at all – there was a second smaller pool by the gym but this seemed to be only half filled with water and was not used by anyone when we were there. There were two pools by the beach but these seemed to be for the guests in those bungalows – so the pool situation was not optimal. There should have been a main pool near the beach in my opinion.

The wifi at the hotel worked fine but it was very annoying that username and password had to be entered manually every day! The service desk at the hotel was great. They helped us book a snorkeling trip and we also rented a scooter from the hotel for several days. The location of the hotel was also quite good for use – located on the northern part of Long Beach, there were lots of restaurants on the beach and along the main road. The beach is long and seemed quite clean when we were there.

All in all, we had a great time exploring Koh Lanta and Lanta Sand worked as a base for this. We would have been a lot happier with the hotel if the shower situation in the room was better (hot water and pressure) and if the pool was located nearer to the beach. If we go to Koh Lanta again, we will probably look for a different...

My stay at Lanta Sand was wonderful. The resort is beautiful, clean, well kept, and relatively modern. The bedroom and bathroom were large and the linens and towels were soft and clean. My room had a plunge pool and an outdoor shower which was very cool. The shower water always got hot and the A/C in the room worked great. Two things that can be hit or miss in Thailand! The resort delivers to your room fresh bottles of water each morning. The room has a large safe and you are provided with large beach towels and two choices of beach bags to use. I had a minor injury and the gentleman at the front desk cleaned and wrapped it for me! So kind! The resort is truly beachfront. There are several types of lounge chairs to chose from, all new and comfortable, and plenty available no matter the time of day. In addition to the full on-site spa, beachfront massage services are offered each day. The massages are priced well. I enjoyed an hour long massage for about $15 USD! Unheard of in the US! I ate breakfast at the resort every morning. Breakfast is served buffet style and the entrees are switched up each day, with staples such as fresh fruit, served daily. There are a variety of fresh juices to chose from, along with water, milk, tea, and coffee. There is an omelet station with a ton of add-ins to chose from. My eggs were cooked perfectly each morning! The restaurant is open-air, clean, and sits directly on the beach. The sunset from here is stunning! Beautiful atmosphere! The days that I ate lunch or dinner at the resort, too, I wasn't disappointed. Whether I ordered a Western option or a Thai option, it was delicious. What really makes this resort a 10 is the hospitality I received. Every employee you encounter from the moment you approach the front desk, to the back of the resort at the restaurant, is kind, friendly, knowledgeable, and professional. The gentleman that runs the restaurant is great! Each morning he'd show up to work breakfast wearing a different character onesie! It was cute, the kids loved it! He learned everyone's names, was hilarious, personable, and brought a lot of life to the restaurant! I really enjoyed talking to him. Overall, my stay at Lanta Sand was wonderful. I highly recommend this resort for solo travelers, couples, and families. It was a joy to stay here and should I ever return to Koh Lanta, I will be staying...

Overall hotel is very lovely, super clean and peaceful. We booked room with a pool access and didn’t like it at all. Everything was so worn out, shiny tiles on the floor made it look dirty all the time. Acoustics was horrible. Above us was an Asian family…… felt like 10 people there, they were screaming, laughing, running in the room until the late night and you can hear absolutely all! And the worst thing was a lot of insects on our bed - dead and alive, flying, scrolling. So first night was a nightmare….. but we managed to change it for a bungalow and it was absolutely lovely. Nice design, silent, very clean, no insects inside. Food in the hotel restaurant is not the best. First evening we had there fried fish, they brought it fully covered in ketchup. One of the waitresses recognized Slav face in me and was constantly trying to speak in broken Russian with me and my husband, even after we said I am Ukrainian and my husband is Turkish, he doesn’t understand Russian and I don’t want to hear it. So we never ate there again. But breakfast was very nice, not very wide variety, but all super fresh. absolutely lovely egg station. Somehow they manage to cook each type of eggs in the very delicious way. Few words about beach and island itself. We traveled in the beginning of June and I was searching a lot of about life and activities on the island before coming….. couldn’t find much, so was relying on google maps showing a lot of bars and restaurants around. So, it is pretty frustrating, absolutely everything closed because it is a rain season. Beach looks very abandoned, only few hotels work, all other places look like people left in hurry and didn’t care about anything. In the storm beach is full of sharp glass and other trash and no one cleans it. You need to watch your step all the time. But I can imagine in the season and good weather it must be a very nice wide and still silent beach to walk. Nature is absolutely crazy, so many birds, lizards, snakes and other living things even on the territory of the hotel. Also they are taking care about two lovely cats, so we were constantly buying them some treats...
