I am currently staying at the Amata Patong Hotel in Patong, Phuket, and I must say that my experience so far has been extremely unpleasant. I checked in two days ago (16th May) and was hoping for a comfortable and enjoyable stay, but unfortunately, that has not been the case.
Upon arriving at my room on the 3rd floor, I quickly realized that the TV was not working. I promptly informed the staff, and an engineer was sent to fix it. However, after an hour of troubleshooting, he concluded that the TV was beyond repair. What frustrated me the most was that it seemed like this issue was not isolated to my room alone, as the engineer mentioned that most of the rooms faced similar problems. It would have been much appreciated if the hotel had informed me about this beforehand.
As if the TV issue wasn't enough, I also discovered that the balcony in my room was too close to the adjacent building, which resulted in a significant pigeon infestation and an unpleasant smell. Also the lift won't stop at the 3rd floor while going down which they didn't agree to till the time I showed them a video of the same. When I requested a room change within the same category, the front desk informed me that I would have to pay an additional 400 baht per night to upgrade. I found this response quite disappointing, as it seemed like they were trying to make extra money off the situation rather than providing a satisfactory solution. They did promise to send another technician to fix the TV immediately if I refused the upgrade, but after waiting for an hour, no one showed up. When I inquired again, I was told that the TV was unrepairable, and they could move me to a similar room on the 5th floor. Feeling exhausted and frustrated after nearly three hours of running around and waiting, I reluctantly agreed to pack my belongings and move to the 5th floor. Little did I know that my ordeal was far from over. Once I settled into the new room and tried to sleep, I was constantly awakened by a sharp shrill noise emanating from the AC. I promptly contacted the reception, and they sent a technician to address the issue. After 40 minutes of patchwork, the noise temporarily subsided, only to return a few minutes later. At this point, I was advised to keep the AC settings on 'low' instead of 'high' to minimize the noise. Due to my exhaustion, I didn't have the energy to further question or argue about the situation and reluctantly accepted their suggestion. On top of that there were drunk guests shouting and singing at the top of their voice in the corridors (won't blame the hotel for that) which ensured my wife and I stayed up the entire night. The Wi-Fi is a major disappointment and it will be on/off intermittently. Overall, my stay at the Amata Patong Hotel has been marred by a series of inconveniences and disappointments. The lack of upfront communication regarding known issues in the rooms and the front desk's attempt to upsell an upgrade rather than providing a reasonable solution only added to my dissatisfaction. The only pro that I had observed during my short stay is the room service which is extremely efficient and very polite. I had plans for extending my stay for 1 more day however I will be checking out on 19th May and move to Ibis hotel which is 1 km from this location. I hope that the management of the Amata Patong Hotel takes these concerns seriously and works towards improving the quality of their accommodations (especially the "cheap rooms" and the overall...
Read morePhuket is a beautiful destination. It was unfortunate for us to choose this hotel to stay at for 9 days. The first issue we encountered was during check in. They were going to put us in a room with two twin beds when we requested a king bed. They upgraded our room, but it was a handicap room. (Not a big deal) The second issue was that our air conditioning wasn't working. We had to call down twice to get it fixed. However, the engineer that helped us was very nice! (A little annoying, but they got it fixed within 15 mins) Thirdly, our power kept going out and they had to reset the breaker. Even with our power adapter/converter it would go out. We didn't have that issue when we stayed in Bangkok. Fourth, I felt like they tried to scam us because the staff misinformed us of their proper laundry service. The bellman told us that it was 100 baht/kilogram. We turned in our bag of clothes and got an invoice for almost 900 baht because they charged us for each piece of clothing. When we confronted front desk we were directed to the manager, Chet, who poorly resolved the issue. It took 4 days to fix the problem, and on the last day they had saved towels from our room that had stains from our hair that was previously dyed. However, we've never had issues with the dye because it always come out after being washed. They told us that they washed them and the stains didn't come out. THEY LIED! Housekeeping didn't attempt to wash the towels. They told us that we damaged their towels and tried to charge us 500 baht for each towel. We took the towels and washed them in our room after buying bleach/detergent for 20 baht at the nearest supermarket. Instead of spending the day at the beach and enjoying our vacation we were washing the hotel's towels in our bathroom to avoid paying $1000-$1500. (Which the stains came out no problem) When we returned the towels following day they were inspecting every square inch of the towels just to make sure there were no stains. However, it was a day and night difference from when they complained to when we returned it, and they were still searching for stains to try and charge us! We had to wait for house keeping to check our rooms to ensure we hadn't taken the other towels to replace the stained ones to get out of paying the charges. The hotel mishandled the entire situation, and really put a damper on our vacation. We had to deal with on-going issues for 5 days that could've been rectified in 10 mins. If we hadn't paid in full when we booked this hotel through a third party company then we would've canceled our stay and paid a little extra money at a better resort that deserves our money than stay at Amata Resort that tries to scam their guests to make extra money. (You get what you pay for) Do yourself a favor and don't stay here. Other than the headache they've put us through, the beds are hard and uncomfortable. The rooms aren't cozy at all. This wasn't a relaxing stay like...
