This hotel is good for the area, but if you are expecting 1st world luxury you will be disappointed. The common pool area is nice and that is probably it's biggest selling point. We did also like the free use of bikes. The rooms are on par with a Hampton Inn in the US. I'm honestly not sure what resorts in southern California another reviewer has stayed at to say this is six stars. I'm from Los Angeles and have only stayed in one place I would call a resort that is worse than The Proud Phuket.
The mattresses are very firm. Our pillows were lumpy (read not feather). I killed a roach bigger than my thumb next to our toilet. The coffee shop has ants on the counter. Our shower backed up while we were there and it was quickly fixed. We noticed room service outside the room next to us still there from the night before, at least 8 hours. Our in room trash wasn't emptied every day and there was my morning coffee cup and tea bags in it, and at times food trash. The staff leaves a bowl of cat food out for ferral cats. Hopefully you're not coming here to watch TV, but if you are the tv is about a 30" size, roughly a large computer monitor.
Staff was nice and smiley. Restaurant was short staffed the night we ate there and the manager apologized for the slow service admitting he was short handed. The pool water is a little cold. Much colder than the ocean down the street. Good to cool off, but not that fun to hang out in for any length of time. We stayed here 5 nights. On our last full day, a Saturday, we were awakened by thumping bass from the pool music 8:30am-ish. My wife and I likened it to stays at the Hard Rock Hotel in Las Vegas. But that was the only day that happened. The coffee and food is pricey for what you get. There's Instant coffee in the room. The shop has an espresso machine, but no coffee. So it was strong americanos for me. Let me say I'm more than happy to pay US prices for coffee and a pastry, but when a business is charging roughly 3 times (or more) than what a local prices it needs to provide a top tier product. We had a massage here that was okay, and in line with the price. I.e. it wasn't an amazing massage, but it was pretty cheap.
In summation I would say that the hotel has realized that they can get away with charging higher prices, they just need to put more of that money back into the property and services they offer. Again, not terrible, just not any kind of remarkable value here. My review takes into account the cost vs what we received. We were certainly not expecting a St. Regis or Ritz experience, and a 5 star review was certainly achievable, but as the issues added up...it...

They tried to scam us regarding the minibar charge. We paid for the minibar bills on the morning of our departure, presented the receipts at the reception, and the employee accepted the cash—everything seemed fine. However, in the evening at check-out, a manager named Tim presented the same bills again, demanding payment. We informed him that we had already paid in the morning, but he claimed that this was impossible because the hotel does not accept cash. He insisted that we provide proof of payment, but we had never received a receipt from the employee in the morning.
When I asked him to check the security camera above the reception, he said there was no one available to review the footage, as everyone was at home. This argument went on for about 30 minutes. The manager showed zero professionalism—he raised his voice and accused us of lying. I told him the exact amounts we had paid and that the employee had taken the receipts, so they should have them in their records. Nevertheless, he kept insisting we were lying.
We refused to pay again, and in an extremely unpleasant manner, he said he would "graciously" pay for us, but that this shouldn’t be the case. I told him he didn’t need to pay for us because we had already covered the bill and were not responsible for their disorganization. When I mentioned the name of the employee who took our payment, he claimed that no such person worked there. We were falsely accused of lying—absolutely disgraceful.
Throughout our 10-day stay, there were several other instances where the staff was rude. You have to pay extra for almost everything in this hotel. They only provide one key card per room, claiming that the hotel is fully booked and they don’t have more, which is simply not true. Beach towels must be signed out on a special list, with a declared time of pickup and return.
We have experience with other hotels in the area, and compared to them, Proud falls far behind. The only positives were the breakfast, which was tasty and varied, and the hotel’s location. The staff, however, needs a complete overhaul.
The rooms are not completely clean. The small hotel pool looks much bigger in the pictures. I recommend reconsidering...
Read moreIt was almost perfect until the checked-out time when we felt like we were tricked or cheated.
Starting with the booking, we have booked the stay directly via the Facebook Page of the hotel. We asked about the price and promotion of 3 days 2 nights stay and they informed us with the interesting price came with breakfast included and 1 round trip of pick-up or drop-off to the airport, so we bought this package.
Overall during the stay was good, the room was comfy and clean (there was a pool bar also, but I never seen the bar set up during my stay).
Last day, we checked out and asked about the drop off to the airport but they all said that the service will cost 250 THB, so we told them that it should be included on the package we bought because that was the admin of the Page said so? Then, the front agent checked again and said like oh yes we can have that.
When we were ready to go at 6 PM, we told them that we would like to get to the airport now. Then the front agent was hurry and called someone else that wasn’t the driver/van of the hotel, but we didn’t think it would be a problem cuz we already talked about this and was cleared that we should not have to pay for more.
However, when we arrived at the airport, the driver told us to pay for the service anyway cuz he said that the hotel’s van wasn’t available and they told him to charge with us for 260 THB!!
We were so confused, mad, and up set like we agreed before booking and talked about the drop off already (for 2 times) but at the end the hotel sent the outside van to drop us and charge later.
We would not be this mad if at least what they could do was be honest and tell us the hotel’s van wasn’t available and we would have to take another van and pay for that, however, they did not tell us anything.
So disappointed with the service.
And please, the admin of the Page and the front agents should be more cooperating and knowing their own promotion package, so next time there won't be anyone feeling confused...
