For the long weekend that we don't want to stuck in the long traffic to go out of Bangkok for resort places. So, we decided to try a new approach by choosing City Hotel with Resort Environment. As strange as it may sound, the Anantara Riverside Bangkok became our 3 days 2 nights location for our long weekend. Driving merely 20 minutes from our house in Northwest Bangkok to this hotel in South Bangkok. We got what we want for our long weekend. The resort setting environment. ||This hotel may be in Bangkok but they have one of the most unique set up for people from different generations. Location wise, this hotel located on Charoen Nakhon Road, which is the road that connect to Rama 2 Road that driving towards the Resort town of Hua Hin in Southern Thailand. But, the hotel still located in Bangkok and it connect to downtown Bangkok via ฺBangkok Bridge that you can see from the hotel. Despite located across the river from the downtown, the hotel has interesting set up. From Charoen Nakhon Road, you have to drive through the Avani Building attached to the shopping center by the streetside. Above the shopping center is the modern hotel gearing towards young people that want high rise building with excellent city and river view. This part of the hotel attached to the shopping mall that young people can enjoy shopping, nice restaurants, fast food franchises, and cloth stores those suitable for their lifestyle. Then towards the river there is another building that is under the same ownership but design for family and more leisure style customers' the Anantara Riverside Building. This is our choice of stay for this trip. ||Anantara Riverside is an old hotel that originally founded in 1992 under the name Royal Garden Resort Bangkok. At that time, Anantara group was called Royal Garden group with hotels in Bangkok and Hua Hin. As the hotel is over 30 years old, it has been renovated many time. I came to this hotel many time since 90s until recently as the hotel is one of a popular place for seminars and wedding venue (my cousin also held his wedding at this hotel a few years ago). The main building still showed the style that popular in late 20th Century. Grand Lobby with beautiful decorations. The main building has may restaurants for customers to choose from. Upon arrival, we decided to have an afternoon tea at the hotel. The cafe located in the main building underneath the lobby area. It is close to the main restaurant and seeing the garden. The afternoon tea selection is good. After that we moved to the hotel room.||At the hotel room, we walked pass the stream that separate the main building with the accommodation building. The small stream connect with the Chaophraya River that ran through Bangkok to the Gulf of Thailand. The room is well appointed. It clearly showed that it has been renovated to the modern standard for luxury hotels. The room overseeing the river but also we can see the temple close to the hotel. My wife make a joke that we can say it is an exclusive temple view as well as being a river view room. Anyway, the room is nice and well appointed with all modern facilities.||For meal, we choose buffet dinner at the hotel. The meal is nice and the selection was excellent. It was unfortunate that it was raining that night. So, we can not enjoy our dinner as much as we expected. But the meal is nice and the selection is excellent. For the next day, we choose to dine at the Benihana Restaurant on the Avani building. The meal is nice and the service is excellent. We've got Japanese set menu and the Teppanyaki. It is very nice meal and entertaining.||The most unique part of this hotel is their garden. Throughout our stay, we enjoyed walking around the compound of the Resort part of the hotel. The swimming pool located close to the river and the garden is nice and serene. As this is the older hotel, trees around the hotel are large and beautiful. The environment does not feel like I am staying in Bangkok but rather a Riverside resort in the resort town. The service at this hotel is excellent. I forgot to mention that during our dinner (before the rainfall), there is al show in the restaurant area. It range from cultural to some entertainment show. If you like Beautiful Thai Silk as souvenirs. There is a Jim Thompson Silk Store across from the reception area. The selection is nice and the quality is excellent. You don't have to travel to Central Bangkok for their store as their branch at the hotel also having a very good selections as well. If you registered with them online while shopping, the shop gave substantial discount on the spot as well.||Generally, Anantara is an excellent City Retreat within the Central Bangkok. It has resort environment, excellent services, modern and contemporary luxury hotels with beautiful and serene garden closer by...
Read moreI'd like to take a moment to recognize Anantara Riverside Bangkok. My experience has been superb. If you are like me, you likely read and depend heavily on Google reviews as you plan for your travels. I understand the importance of good accommodations when traveling and how that can make or break a trip. Anantara Riverside Bangkok completely blew me away. I had 4 nights to kill in Bangkok and initially had trouble deciding on what area of town to stay in. The location of my first hotel was convenient to the BTS and Airport Rail Link. It was chosen out of convenience. I spent my last 2 nights here, and it now tops my list of hotel experiences in my life and I wish I had spent my entire trip here at Anantara Riverside.
I don't even know where to begin. Every single moment from arrival to departure has been world class. Let me start first by recognizing THE STAFF. The staff here are the best of the best. I can't even begin to name specifc names because I have had so many interactions with various staff. From those greeting me upon arrival, through check in, the concierge, housekeeping, pool attendants, boat drivers, restaurant and bar staff- 5 star service. They are the kindest, most helpful, most attentive staff that I have EVER encountered, a title long held by a very well known 5-star hotel in Lake Como, Italy. I literally have felt like some form of royalty while staying here and my mind was completely blown by the quality of service. I did not have a single negative experience. It really has made a lasting impact on my stay in Bangkok before I continue my travels.
The hotel itself is on the west side of the Chao Phraya river, which initially made me a bit hesitant, because I thought I would want to be more on the east side of the river in the more commerical neighborhoods such as Phaya Thai and Silom areas, but I was wrong. The shuttle service is included in your rate and runs on a very consistent schedule. This alone can get you to several iconic locations up and down the river, such as Iconsiam and the Grand Palace. You do have to make some ferry connections to access certain locations on the river, but they make it very seamless and easy to understand. If you do want to leave Anantara and head into the city, I found it very easy to use the shuttle to take to a location with access to the BTS line. All that being said, any time I left, coming back to this hotel felt like coming "home". I can't stress the importance of that in an overall very active and hectic city like Bangkok.
The ambience of the hotel is something to be marveled at in itself. The pool area situated on the river is stunning. I was constantly being offered free extras such as sunscreen, insect repellent, facial mists, free fruit, free snacks, etc. The cocktails I had by the pool were excellent. Also, the onsite restaurants are amazing. I would HIGHLY reccommend trying the Riverside Terrace seafood and BBQ buffet. The food was incredible. I indicated that I had a tree nut allergy. This was taken very seriously and the head chef personally guided me around the buffet, made suggestions, and indicated anything that I should avoid. I felt the care and concern. THE SPA. Ask for TOOM. She gave me hands down one of the best massages of my life as well as a facial. I'm someone who enjoys spas and treatments and frequent spas every time I travel. If this was not my last day, I'd go again. Another special shout out to the concierge service. I typically don't utilize the services of the concerge much, but I am glad that I did.
Overall, I hope this review helps someone in choosing the right hotel for their stay. Anantara Bangkok Riverside now holds a special place in my heart and I am overly thankful that I chose to spend my last 2 nights here. If you're on the fence, just go ahead and BOOK it. Book direct- it's appreciated. I am also headed to Cambodia and this helped me decide that I will be choosing Anantara Angkor in Siem Reap. Running out of room but THANK YOU to Anantara Riverside. Incredible experience I'll...
Read moreI entered the Hotel first time in the mid-90s,since then, I've been to the hotel mostly once a year with my wife. We arrived 6 p.m. Since the entrance was completely blocked by vehicles, we had to park right at the beginning of the driveway. Our car received no attention as everyone stared intently at men in white clothing. Navy meeting until Friday. Aha. As already mentioned, I must have had over 20 stays in the hotel, so my data should be saved as well as my room preferences. I was all the more surprised when the junior suite we booked was supposed to be in the main building. So I politely declined the room and insisted on another one. OK, that wouldn't be a problem, I would be such a loyal guest, after all GHA Titanium and if I could wait an hour they would prepare another JS for me. The new room was in the south wing, right next to a construction site. There was no table or chair on the balcony and I asked the gentleman who showed the room if he was serious? He then explained to me that this was the best thing he could do for us, they were completely booked until friday and he practically begged me to accept the room and after 2 days they would move us with a wonderful upgrade, promised. At 8 a.m. sharp the next morning, the craftsmen started hammering on the roof of the neighboring house. OK, it's only for 2 nights, close your eyes and go through. So after 2 nights the move. They said we probably wouldn't be able to move until after 4 p.m., no problem, it should be the first day at the pool. Of course, that didn't really work either. It's clear that the hotel is really full around Christmas and if, like us, you don't feel like occupying the loungers before breakfast, it's a really annoying situation. The pool boys couldn't help us find free loungers, we politely refused any sandbags, you're not 20 anymore. I then went to reception and asked how the situation could be resolved, whether I should perhaps go into town and buy two of my own loungers? When I gave my room number there was great excitement, the new room was ready and they handed us a set of new cards. To my great surprise, it was the same room number we were still in. Yes, the front desk staff really has a sense of humor. In the meantime they had at least managed to get two loungers by the pool and they wanted to inform us immediately when the new room was ready. Here I was already suspicious because I had paid for a junior suite and didn't want a smaller room as an "upgrade". After half an hour at the pool we received news that the new room was ready. I made my position clear that I would not accept a room that was smaller than the one booked, no matter how great the view was. We ended up looking at 3 different JS, I actually rejected all 3 because none of them corresponded to an upgrade and I started to feel like I was being taken for a ride. We should take a seat and wait. Yes, you really learn that in this hotel. Sit and wait. Then the resort manager came and we were then sat down in the lounge. He then made it clear to us very quickly that there was nothing better than one of the 3 junior suites shown and that we could use the lounge for the rest of our stay. So slept on the construction site for 2 nights, then moved to the same category but with lounge. I have to say that I am an IHG Platinum member, which means that if I sleep in a Interconti I have this automatically, so I can estimate the value a little. Most of the lounges are on the upper floors with a fantastic view. Ideally, like in Paris there is champagne in the evening. The Anantara lounge got no view and Prosecco is available. If you would have thought that fruit, sweets or maybe even a chilled bottle with a letter of apology would be waiting in your room after all the trouble - nothing. And so I unfortunately have to say that after 25 wonderful years we will look for another...
