We stayed here in September for a few nights before leaving earlier than anticipated. The hotel is as shown in the pictures, lovely wooden decking right next to the river with amazing views but sadly it is let down by poor staff and bad location. There is no reception desk and whenever we spoke to someone of our plans to check out earlier we were given a vague response and it made it very difficult to communicate. After asking for help with our bags we had to ask again at least 5 times until someone actually came. We had large suitcases which were not suitable for the very steep and slippery wooden stairs. Upon arriving we were also met with builders changing the wooden decking, there were gaping holes in the flooring that made us feel unsafe and the owners seemed disorganised greeting us. |The location was probably our worst factor as the entrance is overridden by stray dogs and it is situated on a very poor, smelly street. At night it is very loud (the walls are very thin) and not as relaxing as a by the river hotel would appear. The nearby town has a fish market but we felt unsafe and other than the lovely Shanti lodge there is not anywhere to go for drinks or dinner. We felt very trapped. It is very hard to get a taxi or tuk tuk as the nearest taxi port we were unhelpfully directed to is in Khoasan road, a half an hour walk across a busy main road we were not comfortable with. Upon asking the hotel to book a taxi for us we were plainly told 'no'.|There is just enough to do for a couple of nights but we were not happy staying as it is not what it appears at all. There is a nearby pier where you can get longtail boat tours through Bangkok's canals and authentic old Thai river towns but it is the most expensive pier to sail from, go to the pier near Wat Pho marked 7. Would...

Read moreKaloang Home is typically one of those guesthouses that even taxi drivers will not find easily. You can find a temple and a local market with 98% locals walking around. This makes the atmosphere quite interesting and nice, since they look at you with a positive curiosity and are very helpful if you are lost and are looking for something.|Furthermore, since you are not in a very touristic area, the number of people trying to cheat you is much lower, thus enabling you to peacefully take the ferry for 15 Baht per person (to e.g. the Grand Palace).|Otherwise Kaloang Home is like a typical guesthouse with a good level of cleanliness and quite functional from a design perspective.|What may put off some people is that since it seems like a fully Thai-run and owned place, some of the staff donât speak English too well. However, for us this is not a problem at all as there are always solutions; the only important aspect for us is the courtesy and common respect, which we fully received here.|If you want to enjoy an âalternativeâ place to stay vs. the thousands of foreigner-owned and touristic center-located, then this is a really...
