Modern Sultan Hotel is not a fancy hotel - it’s a little dated and in need of updating in some areas, however I thoroughly enjoyed my two nights there. ||I would describe the hotel as a classic B&B: it’s clean and comfortable, with lots of storage space, as well as a good strong shower. It’s also one of the quietest hotels I’ve stayed in. You are just a few minutes walk from the hustle and bustle, but the hotel is down a quiet backstreet and very peaceful. Occasionally you’ll hear other people coming in and out of their rooms, but generally everyone was very mindful and respectful about the noise they were making.||Breakfast is the reason I gave only 4 rather than 5*. Breakfast is served from 8.30am-10am, and by the time I’d arrived downstairs at 9am there was literally nothing left to eat - there was no juice, butter, jam, cheese, and just one fairly bashed boiled egg! The lady came out to refill one of the juices and offer me a hot drink, but I literally had nothing for breakfast that morning. I was left really disappointed (and hungry) as I love my breakfast. ||The next morning I was leaving early for the airport, and they’d just started to put out breakfast, so I quickly grabbed a couple of slices of bread before leaving.||Staff were all lovely - very welcoming and friendly. ||Would I stay here again? Read moreA slightly quaint hotel in an excellent location, very very friendly, courteous and helpful staff, clean rooms, filling breakfast and more than satisfactory rooms and amenities. It’s centrally located near the top attractions on the European side. It’s walking distance to the Hagia Sofia, Blue Mosque (Sultan Ahmet Mosque), Topkapi Palace, Several museums (including the archeology museum, museum of Islamic History, and several others), the Cistern, public transport including two tram stops, a slightly longer walk to the Marmaray train (you can take a tram from Gulhane but we preferred to walk). There is usually Turkish tea in the kitchen for the guest. I am sharing a photo of Sabri who invited us in to the dining room and offered us tea and played his Baglama (a 7 stringed Turkish musical instrument). Note it’s an old hotel with 5 floors and no elevator (the city will not allow due to heritage protection). So if you are not fit or have issues negotiating stairs this place is not for you as there are no rooms on the ground floor. Also as the area is slightly elevated there are some uphill walks to get to the place. The larger family rooms are on the top floor with lovely views. However couple of rooms have attic style slanted ceilings so one side has a...
