These guys are thieves. I took rice pudding and a turkish coffee. First: Rice pudding came served into an aluminium box, and not in a plate. Second: meatballs gave me stomach acidity. I don't know if in the "Antik" turkish restaurants they served customers in this way, but what I have seen was just laziness and three boys playing around among them without taking real care of the customers. Third: at the beginning I asked if I could pay with credit card. They replied that there was no problem, then, when I had to pay the bill, the card device allegedly didn't work. Moreover, the guy asked me if I could add a 20% tip (40 Liras), something that i have never seen in Istanbul: if you wanna give a tip, you give a tip, but otherwise they would never ask. Many turkish restaurants are serious, not this one. Anyway, since the device didn't work, I asked how much was in euro. Since the bill was 210 Turkish Liras, and the exchange rate was 1 euro - 19 Turkish liras, I knew that the bill was about 11 euros. But then, that genius of a central banker (the guy who had served me the cold pudding in the aluminium) come to me and tell me that they apply a 1 euro - 15 turkish liras exchange ratio. When I ask why would they do this, they tell me that "in this restaurant it doesn't work like outside". So, since the ordinary exchange ratio didn't apply in this extraterritorial jurisdiction, I decide to pay them in Turkish liras, accepting their proposal to go to the nearest ATP, since i had no liras. I took 250 liras and asked for the rest of the money (40 liras). Then that guy protested that it was his promised tip, but at the end he surrendered and gave my 40 back. This restaurant just exploits, with no merits at all, its position close to the Topkapi and the archeological museum, but there are a lot of good restaurants (and honest people) all...
Read moreWe went past The Blue Mosque and we stopped here for an early dinner. Don't waste your time here, food is not expensive, but it's not very good.
We waited a while to order, with waiters running back and forth and no one seemed in a hurry to take our order. I ordered a chicken wrap and my husband had the doner meat.
They both came and I opened the chicken wrap. Little to no chicken in the wrap, which was salty and the salad looked old from either the morning or previous, no dressing on the wrap. It was as dry as a bone to eat. I threw some of the chicken to the cat near the table, it ate a bit then walked off in disgust. If the cat didn't want to eat it, then you know it's not edible for human consumption.
My husband's doner meat looked dry and it was chewy and uke warm to cold, with rice and chips. The salad also looked old.
Look at the reviews before you eat anywhere, not worth wasting your time or money coming here. If the animals turn their nose up to the food, that's a telling sign!
It cost 1694 Turkish lira for the two of approximately £37.75....
Read moreOk, so we've been in Turkiye for four days, and the food had not been meeting my expectations. Today, after a long day, we decided to just walk around and eat at the first place we could find. We ran into Antik Cafe, and they convinced us at the door to give it a shot. We tried the Testi Kebab(they let us mix chicken and beef because we couldnt make up our minds, extra points there!!!), and it was delicious. Also, it came with a show! It was a huge portion; it said it served two people but it could easily serve three! This saved my experience with Turkish food! By the way, the only reason why I gave it a 4 starts for the atmosphere is because it was a little empty. In their defense, we came late and it was a super cold and rainy day! Long story short, it was a little more expensive than the other places we've been to, but it was totally worth it. The food was amazing, the customer service was great, tea was great!...
