I dont usually write reviews, especially not negative ones but this place was an absolute tragedy. Worst spa experience of my life and i’ve been to spas in morocco, germany, sweden, finland, tunisia etc. Upon arrival the terminal to pay with credit card wasnt working so we had to be escorted back up again to pay which in itself isnt a problem of course. But it all started going downhill from there. No clear instructions or information about the procedure (whether to keep on bikini or not, whether i need a towel etc.) Then the masseuses kept talking to each other loudly even after i specifically asked them to please keep the volume down so that i can relax (it is a spa after all). After the massage we were being led to a semi-functioning sauna with any infusion. After getting out of the sauna, we were immediately approached by someone who seemed to be working there who told us to get back in the sauna, cause the other program is not prepared for us yet. When we asked whether we could move on to the steam room (which we specifically booked in our package) we were being told that its not working today (mind you we already paid for everything up front). Then we wanted to at least enjoy the swimming pool which also was only possible after a discussion on whether im allowed in there as i only had shorts and a towel and no bikini (as the woman at the reception desk said i dont need to wear it, although i brought it with me). After the pool we were told that the hammam is now ready for us so we lied down in the room (which is supposed to be hot but was around 25 degrees) and hoped for the best. What can i say? The two masseuses put the worst quality 3in1 soup/shampoo on us and rubbed our bodies with this while seemingly talking about the latest gossip with each other. They massaged our faces with some cheap oil without washing their hands first and continued to flush it off with a bucket of water without warning. The whole process felt like im a car in an automatic carwash. Extremely mechanical, impersonal and unprofessional. After this we got some cheap tea and had to sit down in our towels in the same area where both staff and new customers are hanging out. All this doesn’t even regard the fact that the changing rooms were dirty with long dark strains of hair in the sink, mold on the walls and overflowing trash bins. Im honestly disappointed that i spent so much money for such a terrible experience. Wanted to love this place and ended up hating it.
Edit: 24 hours later i have back pain and skin irritation from...
Read moreIve just had the best hammam experience you can ever get in Istanbul. After searching for a few places, i was horrified by the reviews… and my friend and I just happened to walk nearby this Hammam place so we thought might as well check out the prices at the reception.
Reception: super nice host with fluent English. He helped us to understand what is included, and even gave us a good deal. He helped us to book a session for us to come at our convenient time. I recommend you to pay in cash!! ;)
Things you need: you only need to bring yourself and underwear. Everything else (towels, hair dryer, shampoos, slippers etc.) are all provided.
Traditional package: my friend went for the traditional one, I went for the oil. They took both of us in for 15 min sauna, 15 min hot steam room that had lovely mint flavour!! And then we were taken into the Hammam room together. They first wash us, scrub us, foam us, and also washed our hair. It was so lovely… thank you Julia and Pemma!
Oil package: so after all this, my friend and I were given some turkish tea with a facial mask and hand scrubs (additional deal). Then I was taken into the massage room, where Julia gave me a full oil massage. Now I was only expecting maybe some rubbing here and there, but Julia actually gave me a full pressure massage on my legs and back. I think it really took 30 mins!! It never felt short at least!
Overall: many reviews of other hammams say that they felt rushed, unhygienic, or even been asked to tip tip tip tip all the time. But this place, no such thing. It was super clean, and they dont “reuse” stuff. Book your session and you are all dealt well. I was fully relaxed and I was willing to give a tip because they never asked for one!!
I hope this says all. I want to come back next time I visit, so if you read this review please take a good consideration and make a visit. Keep them going so they are on quality...
Read moreI would not recommend this place. You go down to the basement of the hotel, and it feels very dark and dirty. The receptionist was not friendly and did not make me feel welcome. She said the card reader was broken and we had to go back upstairs to make the purchase, and the whole thing felt a bit scammy (note we did a couples massage and they gave us a discount, 50euro per person instead of 65euro each for the premium package). I later realized other spas that are much nicer are cheaper!
After I paid, I was told that the sauna was broken. They would give me a hand scrub and face mask instead. I felt I had no choice and went with it. We were told it would be a private experience, but we were led to a steam room with other people. It smelled deeply of mold. I couldn’t stay too long in there due to the smell.
Our couples massage and wash was private, however. The woman I got barely scrubbed me… not sure if she was going east on me but I expected more. The massage was also very light, aside from when she randomly tried to pop my back and neck and I told her to stop. She also got soap in my eyes.
Other things to note: they give you a locker where you place your things inside with a safe code. The pool is very small and dark and you only jump in after your services and after you have been washed.
Overall, I do NOT recommend this place. Find a cleaner, friendlier place that isn’t filled with mold! Did not seem...
