My girl and I went to the hotel restaurant, Saba at her request. She had previously been there many different occasions with family / friends and had very good experiences.

We went on 4/10/2024. The service by the waitress Angel was outstanding. However, I had an issue with my meal.

I had ordered the pork skewers 🍡 and found a hair in the meat. When I raised the issue with our server , she brough it to the attention of the chef. Unfortunately, I forgot to take a picture before the complaint was lodged.

The explanation from the restaurant manager (Jacob) was not satisfactory. He insisted that the hair was non human and was from the pig as it was embedded in the meat. It was strange that he didn't bring the meat back out to show and verify with me directly to help rectify my concerns!

3 things come to my mind with this unfortunate incident on Friday night. 1st, I had a pig farm in Kenya which had more than 100 pigs at any given time and it didn't resemble a pig's hair by any means.

2nd, not that it's important but I am a doctor and in my opinion it certainly appeared to be human hair and certainly not any pig hair I've ever encountered.

Lastly, the restaurant manager never offered to replace the meal or remove the charges. Just gave his apologies and expected me to accept his reasoning.

It was a very sad evening as it made me nauseous thinking about the dinner. Ultimately, a few hours later I ended vomiting 🤮 the entire dinner 🍽️ ! It may have been the chili or the persistent nagging thoughts the other meat were also contaminated.

I hardly ever do reviews, but i think this situation definitely warranted a review! The outcome was handled poorly by the management by not accepting responsibility AND making excuses! He certainly did not rectify the problem by not making amends or directly alleviating my concerns by verifying directly.

I leave up to your judgement if and when you visit.

I have returned to Kampala this in January 2025, and was invited back by Onomo management and Chef K.

I am amending my review because our dinner experience this time was MARVELOUS. Chef K specifically invited me and my girlfriend back due to my past experience last year.

The service, and ambience was delightful but the meals prepared by Chef K were the best meals I've had within Kampala.

I truly believe that my previous visit was a fluke and not the norm for Onomo Hotel/Saba Restaurant.

I would also highly recommend Onomo Hotel because the supervisor that contacted me and Chef K were not only kind and understanding because of my bad experience, but most of all VERY PROFESSIONAL !

I can wholeheartedly recommend Onomo Hotel/Restaurant to anyone visiting Kampala. If there are issues, rest assured that any problems will be rectified. I was very impressed this past visit. You will not be disappointed!

Best...

I recently had the pleasure of staying at ONOMO Hotel Kampala during my trip to Uganda, and I must say, it exceeded all my expectations. From the moment I arrived until the day of my departure, I experienced impeccable service, modern amenities, and a delightful ambiance that truly made my stay unforgettable. Upon entering the hotel, I was immediately struck by the sleek and stylish design of the lobby. The contemporary decor, combined with warm and welcoming staff, created an inviting atmosphere. The check-in process was swift and efficient, and the staff provided me with all the necessary information about the hotel's facilities and services. The room I stayed in was simply fantastic. It was spacious, impeccably clean, and tastefully decorated. The bed was exceptionally comfortable, ensuring a restful night's sleep after a long day of exploring Kampala. The room also featured a well-appointed bathroom, complete with luxurious toiletries and fluffy towels, adding an extra touch of indulgence to my stay. One of the highlights of my experience at ONOMO Hotel Kampala was the outstanding dining options available. The hotel's restaurant offered a diverse menu, catering to various culinary preferences. The breakfast buffet was a true delight, featuring a wide selection of fresh fruits, pastries, and hot dishes that catered to both local and international tastes. The attentive and friendly staff made dining a pleasure, always ready to provide recommendations and ensure a delightful experience.

The hotel's location was another aspect that impressed me. Situated in the heart of Kampala, it provided easy access to the city's major attractions, shopping centers, and vibrant nightlife. Additionally, the hotel's proximity to the airport made it extremely convenient for both leisure and business travelers.

What truly sets ONOMO Hotel Kampala apart, however, is its exceptional staff. Throughout my stay, every member of the team went above and beyond to ensure my comfort and satisfaction. Their genuine warmth, professionalism, and willingness to assist with any request or inquiry made me feel valued as a guest.

To sum it up, I highly recommend ONOMO Hotel Kampala to anyone visiting the beautiful city of Kampala. Whether you're traveling for business or leisure, this hotel offers a superb experience. From the well-appointed rooms to the delectable dining options and exceptional service, every aspect of my stay was nothing short of excellent. I cannot wait to return and experience the hospitality of ONOMO Hotel...

On 6th July, We attended the Onomo Arts Experience event organized by the British Council at Onomo Hotel. While the hotel presents itself well, and the general service seemed wanting from the timeliness in delivering the orders to providing meals that cooled in the kitchen, but that's not the major issue.

A serious security incident occurred which exposed major lapses in safety and left us very disappointed by the hotel’s response.

During the event, two phones were stolen—one of them taken directly from our table. This raises serious questions: how are such individuals able to access the hotel premises if there are supposed to be thorough checks at entry? How is it possible that an event held around the swimming pool area had no direct camera coverage? Where was hotel security during the event to monitor and deter such incidents?

After discovering the theft, we immediately expected the hotel to respond with urgency and cooperation. Instead, the response we received was dismissive and unhelpful. While the hotel’s cameras were not useful in this case, we had clear video evidence from one of our own recordings that captured the pickpocket in the act, with the individual’s face clearly visible. Disappointingly, even after presenting this evidence, the hotel management was reluctant to act. It even appeared as though the individual was known to the staff, either as a worker or a regular figure at the hotel during events, which made the lack of cooperation even more concerning.

This entire experience left us with the impression that guest safety and property security are not a priority at Onomo Hotel. Such negligence is unacceptable, especially for a hotel of this reputation hosting high-profile events.

I urge the management to take immediate corrective action, including: - Reviewing and strengthening security screening at entry points. - Ensuring camera coverage of all event areas, especially public spaces such as the swimming pool. - Training staff to respond swiftly and professionally to theft and other security incidents. - Establishing clear procedures for cooperating with guests and authorities when evidence of a crime is presented.

While these issues are addressed, I would caution anyone attending events at this hotel to be extremely vigilant, as it is not as safe...

This hotel is a very weird mix. Granted it is on a fairly elevated and tight lot but the design could have been optimised to work better. Access into and exit out of it is very precarious. Not to mention the fact that a dog had to get into our car in the name of security check. Not good at all. Security said "you can complain and still come back". The lobby starts out as an exciting space but one quickly catches on to its over done nature - reed baskets, artificial and natural plants, lots of lights in different shapes, sizes and colour. It is cluttered. What ambience does this create? I do not know. It is just weird. 3 years on, and it is clear maintenance is not up to par. Furniture was obviously dusty (and yes I know I am in Kampala but there are precedents elsewhere in the city that provide clear space) Ah well! There were a few points that are a saving grace: Christine our server was nice 👌🏾. Although they run out of a number of items while we were there (including room temperature water) The food was great 👍 Portions were good too.

So, this is a business hotel and I must say, wasn’t the most glamorous experience I have had from a hotel in or around Kampala. I think the Saba Restaurant attached to the hotel is great and that brings in quite a bit of people but then it gets hard for guests to use the pool since these walk-ins who have basically come to take photos at the new hotel are sitting by and maybe that pulls away from the privacy element. Then, the gym was really small so I am thinking even people on business trips more so this group would have more interest in exercising and what not. Then the rooms were hmmmmm where do I start. I am sharing my honest opinion and experience here. So, the room we first checked into had water issues, then we were moved to another that was leaking 🤦🏾‍♀️🤦🏾‍♀️🤦🏾‍♀️🤦🏾‍♀️how on a storied building, don’t ask me. Then moved again. Generally either they opened too soon but needed a bit of time, I don’t know. Good staff though especially the manager — so involved and on top of everything, Mr Kariuki.
