This was my 5th time in Kyiv and my first stay in the InterContinental... Location: Incredible.. between 2 of Kyiv's most renowned tourist sites.. St Michael's Golden Domed cathedral and St Sophia's Cathedral and less than 10 minutes walk from the Maidan. This is a city centre, fully refurbished Palace less than 5 minutes walk from St Andrew's Street/Church and the famous Old Town. As transport options from the airport are limited and the city: huge, I highly recommend ordering the Hotel Transfer service.. Airport to hotel door in under 30 minutes.
Check In... it is no secret that the Hotel in which one stays leaves a lasting impression about the city that one is visiting. Sometimes an exploration of the hotel itself can turn out to be a voyage within a voyage.,, At check in a personal greeter was allocated to us to show us to our room and give us a tour of the hotel facilities.. This helped us get orientated quickly and made us feel most welcome.. Thank you Anna!. Large spacious Lobby with very visible security... Nice welcome letter was also presented with a full list of hotel amenities and services for IHG rewards club members.
Room: Impeccable in lay out, decor, design, facilities, amenities etc. Beautiful view of manicured gardens, Large comfortable beds, Air conditioned, good wifi, complimentary soft drinks mini bar, spacious spotless bathroom with separate shower and bath...full selection of toiletries.. everything and more that you would expect from a 5star plus hotel.
Club Lounge: the highlight of our trip. Food was great with a menu that changed every few hours.. Excellent staff (Aliona etc), warm pleasant and friendly.. Nice selection of refreshments, sandwiches, snacks during the day and substantial dinner buffet at night. Good buffet selection for breakfast with detailed 'cook to order' menu also offered. (if you don't have Lounge access in your booking you can add it at check in for a nominal fee) Adjacent to the Lounge there is also a well equipped business centre with desk top computers and good printer.
Amenities.. The Lobby was open plan (check out the chandelier!), comfortable and spacious. The Lobby Bar was warm and inviting with efficient, friendly staff.. (It permits smoking and can be uncomfortable for non smokers), good selection of premium drinks and snacks. The Hotel also has 2 top class restaurants with good selection of reasonably priced local dishes and international cuisine. There is also a club/bar on the top floor with great views of the city.
The Spa area has a private lift directly from your floor to the Pool/Gym reception. Gym is compact but well equipped.. The pool has a great atmosphere for those who wish to swim and relax.. Changing room had its own large Hammam/steam room. (We didn't have time to check out the spa..)
But in retrospect our stay was made most enjoyable by the friendly, professional, efficient and well informed staff. Even the manager on duty took extensive time to assist us with making the most of our time in Kyiv giving us insider tips that you generally would not get in other hotels. (thank you Mr.Prykhodko).
Kyiv is a magnificent city, easy to get around and there is no better hotel to choose for your stay than the...
Read moreFirst let me say my stay was wonderful. You have a beautiful Hotel. I'd like to complement Valerie (spelling it wrong) the young men that checked me in. He was very polite, explained everything regarding the hotel breakfast check out etc and answered all my questions.
So you know I had 2 reservations, one paid and the other using my points, my last night.
Valerie also assited me in keeping the room I was in the first two nights so I won't have to change rooms. He also went above and beyond by squaring me away with the new key for my last day as I was leaving early and coming back late (Chornbyl tour last day). I'd recommend a raise for ValerieEmoji.
Breakfast staff was also very polite and welcoming. The young lady (wears glasses I really need to start getting names) not only greeted me but assisted me with learning the Ukrainian words for "Good Morning" and "Thank you". Breakfast was a smash! But that I mean a fabulous selection from the cook that made my omlets Tuesday and Wednesday to the cleanliness of the entire hotel.
Also want to thank the doormen that arranged for our taxi Wednesday morning (0720) to take us to the meeting point for there Chornobyl tour at the main train station. He negotiated our fare too! Emoji
Upon our return from the tour Wednesday evening 2045, the young lady at reception (again I didn't get a name) squared me away with my bill from the first two night asked if we needed transport to the airport Thursday morning and arranged for us to have a take away breakfast at 0430 in the morning today. Very considerate of her to ask and arrange. The concierge also assisted with bags at 0430 today.
Early for me but your staff wide eye and bushy tail as we Americans say - Alert and able and willing to assist.
So I will address my room service- Excellent - after the dish took my order the same receptionist (young lady) told me that it would take about 20 minute (2130) I said no problem The dinner took 10 minutes! 4 stars for quickness and then she called back to ask how I wanted to pay since I already cleared my bill which I too was thinking so I said I would come down tonight and settle the bill but she informed me that the individual bring the food could take the payment and that she just needed to know if cash or card. That was great and when the food arrived this young lady was also polite and walked me through everything on the tray with wheels and brought the card machine for my payment. Once again, very efficient.
Now my room! SUPER I forgot to say Vallerie informed me of my upgrade and the roof top access!!! What a view.
Lovely room Anastasiia and the only thing I would like to see is, if possible, maybe some additional (1 or 2) UK SKY programming, though most of my time I was out sightseeing and getting in late so I wasn't watching much TV.
I look forward to my next visit as I will be staying with you again, fantastic location and the city is easy enough to get around and see the other...
Read moreAn excellent hotel, overall. Staff is very well-trained and knowledgeable. Rooms are fairly standard in size and not what I would call "cutting edge" by modern standards (the interior style is "classic" to match the exterior of the building, I suspect), but cozy, clean and quiet. I really enjoyed the sleep quality: from the firm mattress to a bunch of pillows of various size/softness, you can definitely make yourself a comfy "den" for a good night's sleep.
Breakfast was probably my most memorable experience as this easily ranks as one of the top-5 in all my years of travel: the restaurant provides an exceptional selection, variety and quality of 'morning food". The ground floor restaurant and the lobby bar are also very good, although complaints of some reviewers here about the smoking zone are quite justified: while I'm totally supportive of smoking/non-smoking zoning at public places to accommodate various groups of guests, Intercontinental should've done a better job separating the two as, for example, the non-smoking restaurant is really getting a draft of smoke coming from the smoking section of the lobby bar. It's not pleasant. But this also depends on the time of the day and the number of visitors, of course.
The only disappointment for me was the "gym". For a hotel of this class, it was definitely underwhelming - not even a gym in a proper sense, but a tiny exercise room with a couple of treadmills and a Smith machine/pulley rack stuffed in the farthest corner of a deep basement.
Location-wise, hard to beat: one of the central locations, next to a few world-renowned landmarks and in an absolutely safe zone (between the Ministry of Inferior and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs).
All in all, an expensive but pleasant, high-quality stay....
