This was my 2nd visit to this place and I liked the concept a lot - you get to explore different whiskeys (Scotches really) and pairings. Nice atmosphere, not crowded, good selection, knowledgeable bartenders.. That was until.... I got a bad alcohol poisoning.. Started at 3am and the next morning I was stomach sick as a dog. Now, I know it wasn't a food poisoning because 1) everything I ate that day was something I've eaten previously and it was from the fridge with nothing really to spoil, and 2) I know the difference between food and alcohol poisoning - if you've had both, you understand what I mean.
End of day 1, I wasn't getting better, so I called the place to report the poisoning, to which the manager said that he would immediately call the doctor. So far so good - I was happy with that response, thought it was a a good way to handle the situation. But then he called back and said something about the doctor needing to know the details and that he couldn't do it on my behalf and I'd have to do it myself. Ok, now that went from "great" to "ok". So I asked him for the docs phone number. Instead of giving me the docs phone number, he texted me numbers of multiple clinics around the city.. At this point it went from "ok" to "was there really a doctor?". He also said that they didn't think they were responsible - it must have been something I ate that day.. This took it into the "lame, you just lost me as a customer". When I tried to explain that I knew what an alcohol poisoning feels like, he said that I was mistaken and it couldn't have been their stuff. This just put the nail into the coffin.
Now, here's what I think it really was. Out of the 6 samples in the picture (they pour about 25g per serving), the last one was unusual (it's on the one on the very left on the picture).. The story bartender told me was that it was a distillery that the owners found by accident in Scotland, it was shutting down, but they liked it so much that they purchased the last couple of barrels. It tasted a bit funny, and my suspicion is that it's that last one that was responsible for the poisoning as it didn't come from a reputable distillery.
That's it for the story - great concept, a mistake, and a sloppy customer service that blames the customer at the end. Likely my last...

I came here with my girlfriend around 10 PM on a Sunday. Not exactly prime eating hours; we were pretty much the only ones in the restaurant. They took great care of us, sending over a guy to recommend whisky pairings, which were excellent. The waiter was very attentive and the food was excellent. We had the beef terrine with pate as well as salmon and gorgonzola cheese rolls topped with caviar as appetizers, and they were amazing. My entree was duck breast, which was very good but not phenomenal; my girlfriend had the butter-and-caviar-topped scallops, which were great. The desserts (eclairs and a chocolate ball with cheese and pear cubes inside that the waiter poured hot chocolate onto make it melt) were also terrific.
Great place and great service. Just remember that when you get your bill, the tip is not included, and if you pay with a credit card there's no way to add a tip on the card, so bring a reasonable amount of...
Read moreLiterally the best place in Kyiv. Everything is absolutely great in terms of food, drinks, hospitality, professionalism and overall atmosphere. Don't get scared with the "$$$$" ranking on Google -- your check heavily depends on what whiskies you drink, and the food prices are comparable to other restaurants in Kyiv. Don't get me wrong, it WILL get expensive if you order a dram of 1967 Strathisla, but you can totally enjoy much cheaper drams and there's plenty of them to choose from. In fact, you may tell the sommelier that you don't want to go beyond a certain budget and he will offer you great whiskies for that particular price range. If you are up to something special be sure to try the 35 y.o. Fettercairn, their special release that is in the top-1000 list of best whiskies in the world according...
