The hotel staff were very friendly and welcoming. However, despite the reservation being for three people, our room was initially missing a towel and bedding for the third guest. After a rather long wait, we received only a blanket, which wasn’t ideal and not very pleasant to sleep with.
The rooms were very clean, and the housekeeping team truly took their job seriously. I could see how much time and attention they spent on cleaning each room, which was genuinely appreciated.
The food was quite average. While the kitchen staff worked hard to ensure dishes were replenished promptly, the overall selection was poor. The quality of the coffee was extremely disappointing, and the breakfast options – such as waffles or pancakes – looked more like leftovers than fresh choices. The photos on Google of the hotel’s buffet menu are far from reality. The dining area itself looked tired – many chairs were visibly worn out and simply dirty. Still, the restaurant staff were efficient and polite, and even with many guests, the waiting time wasn’t much of an issue. Eating outside was possible in April, though I imagine it wouldn’t be pleasant in the hottest months.
The swimming pool was very small and, given the number of guests, practically unusable. The gym looked decent, but the service there was truly poor. There were no towels available, and when my husband asked for one, he was told to "bring one from upstairs" – with no explanation as to whether that meant from the room or the pool. The staff member supervising the gym seemed more interested in his own workout and twirling his moustache (this must be mentioned!) than in helping guests. He spent his time admiring himself in the mirror and slamming weights aggressively, clearly trying to draw attention, rather than doing his job. His attitude was rude and unprofessional.
The room had air conditioning, but it wasn’t sufficient. We used it only once, as it failed to meet our expectations. We usually skip room service, but requested it once – unfortunately, the soap and water were not refilled. When we returned to the room and asked again, we waited over an hour. Eventually, around midnight, my husband went to a nearby shop to buy liquid soap. We never received a replacement from the hotel for the rest of our stay.
The hotel is well located – close to the metro station and local shops – but there are no real attractions nearby. The view of the main street from our balcony was fantastic; however, the city noise was intense and disrupted our sleep every night. We’ve previously stayed at a different hotel also located by a major road, but didn’t have this problem. Still, the balcony access was a nice feature.
There’s a taxi rank directly in front of the hotel, which is convenient. However, I strongly recommend avoiding the taxis arranged through the hotel. For a ride that would normally cost 15 AED, I was charged 80 AED – a steep and unjustified markup. Just a two-minute walk from the hotel, near the train entrance, you’ll find regular taxis, which I would absolutely recommend using instead.
While the rooms were very clean and the staff were overall kind and hardworking, the reality of certain hotel features – like the pool, gym, and dining area – did not match the photos shown online. A good level of service in some areas was unfortunately overshadowed by poor communication and...
Read moreI’m really surprised that this is a 4 star hotel. I was extremely disappointed by the hotel room apartment. It was not clean, there was mould and dust in the room and it was uncomfortable. the bathroom has brown and black areas on the walls, floor, ceiling and in the shower. I had to walk around the apartment in slippers because it felt dirty. The balcony was rubbish, you can just about stand out there and is not really the same as what you see in pictures. The kitchen did not provide me with anything apart from water - no washing up liquid, the pans where not clean and I had no gas for 2 days so had to buy breakfast. There was a washing machine but no washing capsule etc. the tv channels were not appropriate for a British tourist guest, no YouTube or Netflix which I would expect from a 4 star hotel and price paid. The coffee table was dirty and had old food stains still on it. There was no socket near the bed so couldn’t charge my phone properly. There was no hand soap provided I had to use the bath soap to wash my hands. A few incidents that occurred were: When I came back after a very tiering day (I put do not disturb sign on the door) I fell asleep and was disturbed by a staff member and security for absolutely no reason apparently they try to call but the phone defiantly didn't ring as the phones in room are loud so it would of woke me up, I still don't know why this happened! A alarm randomly went off at 2AM for about 7 seconds in my room when I was asleep so I jumped out of bed in a panic then couldn't go back to sleep I requested towels they didn't come till I asked again day after late night some other guest paying unnessry loud music
The most inconvenient part of the hotel was the valet service they provide for cars. Unfortunately you’re not allowed to park your own car in the car park even to you have a lift that goes to the car park, they have to park it for you. This meant that whenever you wanted to get your car back, you’d have to wait for 15-20 min to get your car back. The maximum I waited was 25 minutes (then blamed me? Lol), which made me late to my booking. The valet drivers would move the car seats and the mirrors which was understandable, but then when getting the car back, other cars would sometimes horn you to move out of the way when you’re adjusting the car back. A couple times the car came back with unusual dirt on the windows, so I’m not completely sure where these are parked, just bare that in mind. My car radio station was also changed during the time it was away so I assume the valet drivers spend more time in the cars than...
Read moreI recently stayed at the Mercure Dubai Barsha Heights and, regrettably, my experience fell far below expectations. For a property that presents itself as a premium option in the heart of Dubai, the service and cleanliness standards were shockingly poor.
The first and most glaring issue was the state of the room. Upon arrival, it was immediately evident that housekeeping had not done an adequate job. The room was dusty, and there were visible stains on the furniture and bedding, making the space feel unhygienic and unwelcoming. The bathroom, too, left much to be desired, with grime in the corners and a lingering odor that hinted at a lack of thorough cleaning. For a hotel of this caliber, such oversights are unacceptable.
Adding to the frustration was the issue with the iron. As a business traveler, having access to basic amenities like an iron is essential, yet the hotel could not meet this simple request for four consecutive days. Each day, I contacted reception and housekeeping, and each time, I was assured that an iron would be sent to my room. Despite these repeated promises, the iron never arrived. It became an exhausting routine of asking, waiting, and being disappointed.
What’s worse is the complete lack of accountability or urgency from the staff. Instead of addressing the issue promptly or offering an alternative solution, they seemed indifferent to my repeated complaints. This lack of responsiveness reflected poorly on the overall customer service standards of the hotel.
The experience was further marred by a lack of attention to detail throughout the property. From poorly maintained common areas to inattentive staff at the reception, it was evident that guest satisfaction was not a priority. The hotel's prime location in Barsha Heights is one of its few redeeming qualities, but even that cannot compensate for the subpar experience.
A hotel stay should be about comfort, convenience, and service, but Mercure Dubai Barsha Heights failed to deliver on all fronts. The lack of cleanliness and failure to provide a simple amenity like an iron, coupled with indifferent customer service, made my stay unnecessarily stressful and disappointing.
I would not recommend this hotel to anyone seeking a pleasant and hassle-free stay in Dubai. There are plenty of other options in the city that provide far better service and value for money. Mercure Dubai Barsha Heights has the potential to be a great hotel due to its location and facilities, but without significant improvements in cleanliness, service, and staff training, it will continue to...
