I visited Castlerigg with my school and overall I am over the moon with the facilities and scran.
When I first arrived at Castlerigg. We were introduced to the staff. They were full of energy and excited about the place and the Word of God. It certainly was a pleasant experience. The staff had planned loads of fun and spiritual activities, which were fun and have changed my perspective of the Catholic faith for the better. It was also a relaxing experience.
The rooms... they were far better than I thought. I was surprised the room and bathroom was actually sparkling clean and tidy. I have been let down by the hotel from my previous school trip so I had low expectations of the quality of the rooms. One compliant about my room is that the room sometimes stinked of BO (one of my friends actually brought a WWI gas mask to deal with this problem). There was also a giant spider in my room, which this freaked my friend out and he is now scared for life, however, I am aware that we are in the middle of the Lake District so this is kinda understandable. I wish they had WiFi in the rooms. My 5G didn't really work and was in a frenzy that I couldn't scroll through TikTok.
The grub they served was on night 1 was on a different level. We were given what I think were Chicken Selects from Lidi in a wrap with chips. Actual class - the chicken Selects were full of flavour, tender and moist. On night 2, we got a margarita pizza severed with chips, which was mid, nothing much to comment here.
Overall, I've had a fantastic experience in Castlerigg Manor. I would love to come back on another retreat. I would recommend Castlerigg Manor to other people.
Thank you Castlerigg Team...
Read moreVast private grounds (4 acres!), well equipped kitchen. I stayed in the single room, a basic shower and sink is in the room but the toilet is just outside. The window just misses the mountain view too 🥲
Very comfy foam bed and no towels or soap. Staff were around but not that sociable, it seemed more like a family/large group accommodation rather than a mixed scenario that most hostels are like. Also note there is a steep stairway that goes down to the town centre so you'll need a lot of stamina to return back after...
Read moreJust returned from a family break at castlerigg, 9 of us stayed there and was plenty big enough. Very clean and well equipped kitchen and a great location (10 minute walk into Keswick). Could benefit from a little TLC as quite dated and couple of the en suite shower rooms had damp. A seating area in the garden would have been nice. Again great location lovely little house for a family gathering.. great host who was very attentive to our needs. Thank...
