Overall I had a good evening with my family in this small cafè/restaurant. Food was OK, although in all honesty I wouldn't say so great as many reviews say. I think what makes the difference in this place is the friendly atmosphere. Just be prepared to wait a long time before you are seated. The place is small but it is in high demand. The wait however will stimulate your appetite, so you'll enjoy your food more. The only thing I really did not like is how they managed the 4 of us (two adults and 2 young children) while waiting. We occupied the two stools and the bar table right in front of the entrance door while waiting as anybody else did before us. I also ordered a beer while waiting. However after 10 mins we were asked to leave the spot for a "couple" letting us think the couple wanted to have their food on the bar table. We understand business is business so we just left but this forced us to move outside in the cold weather with the children since there was not much space inside. I then saw that two ladies took our place. They were just drinking bear as we were doing and did not order any food. After we were seated, also the two ladies were moved to a bigger table and that is when they started ordering their food. I totally missed the rationale for asking us to leave the bar table and stools for them. I had the strong impression we were treated unfairly but I didn't want to ruin our night and just pretended not to have seen that. Apart from that, we had fun and enjoyed our...
Read moreMyself & my partner decided to choose The Square Orange as our date night location during our holiday in Keswick this week, and it did not disappoint.
It was busy every time we walked past so we thought it would be a good idea to book a table in advance but was told it was walk in only (which was fine with us!) When we arrived there weren't any tables available on the main floor but was told we could have a small table for 2 down the back which suited us as it meant we were away from the noise of the floor (only interrupted every so often by people going to the toilet)
The food was incredible and they had lots of vegan options (one of the reasons we chose it). We ordered a vegan pizza #15, vegan nachos, vine leaves, patatas bravas, and King prawns - all of which were delicious and plenty filling for 2! The vine leaves were a big hit with my partner, and I loved the nachos + patatas bravas, though all of it was delicious.
The waiting staff were very friendly and checked in on us, even though we were tucked away. The music was great and the overall atmosphere was excellent.
The only thing is that it's a shame we were only there for our holiday, otherwise we would happily go here...
Read moreWe'd often walked past and wondered what it was like, as it was always busy. We were lucky to grab a table when we were in Keswick last bank holiday. Had drinks brought quite quickly which is always good and we ordered our food. We ordered nachos with homemade chilli, a Tuna and anchovy pizza, a garlic bread with cheese and meatballs off the tapas menu. The garlic bread was a little smaller than we thought it would be, but it was nice. The pizza came without cheese, which we wondered whether it would because of the wording on the menu. The meatballs were good, but i wasn't keen on the Nacho's. The Nacho's were all soft and not as much cheese as I would have liked. The chilli wasn't what I expected either and it wasn't til I re read the menu that I discovered it was vegan. That's why it tasted different. (To me) my fault for not reading properly. I gave it to my hubby who thought it was nice and polished it off. I would say give it a go, it's a nice place, but if ordering a pizza, ask if the one you're interested in comes with cheese, as some don't. Only one loo too, so go when you need to incase...
