When you go to the Lakes, it's for the scenery. Lakes and mountains. Bagging Wainwrights. It's a bonus that it's a UNESCO World Heritage site but then it is absolutely stunning. I spent my first 19 years about 65km south of Keswick; I've stayed in the Keswick Youth Hostel while on mountaineering trips; and walked from Keswick to Barrow for charity on four occasions. It wasn't until April 2021 that I actually stayed in the town for a relaxing holiday and I wasn't really expecting to buy any LPs unless the local charity shops had a surprise selection of progressive rock. It was something of a surprise to find out that Keswick Collectables has been selling vinyl for around 20 years - the shop sells antiques but at least half the retail space must be devoted to LPs - and the range and quality is worthy of any dedicated second-hand record shop. The rarities on the walls are genuinely collectable, the bins of well looked after records of all genres, selling for up to £30 take up the most room, but I'm interested in filling the gaps in my personal collection of prog and associated genres, and was drawn to the boxes of LPs selling for £5. Most of these were in good, if not very good condition, including the sleeves. I rejected a copy of Stratosfear by Tangerine Dream which had a visible scratch on one side, but the four albums I bought all play beautifully. I'd been after a copy of Roy Harper's HQ for an absolute age and though there were finger marks on the surface, these cleaned off without any trouble. I was told that the stock gets updated regularly and I found the owner pleasant and helpful. I'd already fallen in love with the town before I came across the shop, but finding such a gem makes it even more special. Highly...
Read moreAlways enjoy looking in this shop, each time we visit the lovely Keswick. Love looking at all the different antiques they've got (and they've got quite the collection!) When I visited last year, there was a chap who was at the counter, who was very pleasant and very accommodating. Just happened to be browsing to see if they had any inkwells in and they did. However it was this beauty that caught my eye and the lady was really kind in letting me have a look at it and then another look (I'm quite the ditherer you see ha!) I asked if she had any nibs I could test, to make sure the glass insert wasn't too shallow and was more than happy to help. Also picked up a few old coins for a friend too, and was extremely pleased with the service provided......
Read moreLovely store and fantastic service! Heather was very helpful, and I really appreciated her willingness to go the extra mile for me.
When in the store, my partner fell in love with one of their items, I wanted to get this for his birthday but I live in Manchester and had no way of buying it without him knowing.
When i got home, I called the store and Heather arranged for it to be sent to me. I know this isn’t standard practice for them so I was really grateful. It arrived within the same week in perfect condition.
Lovely experience, I’d...
